3. Setting and Achieving Goals
Ask participants to think about the values and skills they have identified from the last activity. Ask: How can you apply these values and skills
to your future? (5mins)
Ask them to draw a large tree that includes the roots, trunk, major branches, smaller branches, leaves, flowers and thorns. Explain that the
growth of a tree is like the growth and development of a person. The parts of the tree represent the following:
Roots: their values and skills
Trunk: areas in their lives that give them strength – friends, family, church, mosque, work place
Branches: goals in the near future (what they want to do or accomplish soon) Thorns: obstacles they might meet along the way
