MAT3701/102/0/2022
Dear Student
• You may not consult the MAT3701 study material (that is, study guide, tutorial letters or
prescribed book).
• You may not consult external sources.
• You may not consult websites.
• You may use your phone only to scan and upload your exam answer file.
• You may not contact other people during the exam.
To ensure the integrity of the exam, IRIS invigilation must be used throughout the exam – see
section 2 below. See also the last page of this tutorial letter for a copy of the cover page of the
MAT3701 Jan/Feb 2022 exam paper in which the rules of the examination are listed – please
read them beforehand.
Fifteen minutes before the official starting time for the examination, the exam paper will be
available for downloading. You then have two hours in which to complete the examination.
Thereafter you have an additional one hour in which to scan your answer sheets and create an
answer file in pdf format for uploading on the CSET myExams platform. No submissions will be
accepted after the additional uploading time. We therefore appeal to you to stop writing at the
official closing time for the examination to allow yourself enough time to submit your answer file.
Please number your answer sheets clearly and write you student number and module code on
the front page. The name of your pdf answer file should be in the format
studentnumber_MAT3701.
2 IRIS INVIGILATION
To ensure the integrity of the exam, IRIS invigilation must be used throughout the exam. This will
require that you:
• use a desktop or laptop computer with a webcam, microphone device, and reliable internet
connection,
• use the Google Chrome internet browser and install the IRIS invigilation tool on it,
• activate IRIS invigilation when you download the exam paper, and
• keep it on and work in front of your computer/webcam for the duration of the exam.
For additional information on the use of IRIS, visit the CSET Exam Preparation OCT 2021 site
on the CSET myExams platform. You will find instructions on how to install the IRIS invigilation
tool (see the video How to Install IRIS under Additional Resources) as well as an IRIS Practice
Take Home Examination – click on eAssessment. Also read the information on the overview
page. To access the Exam Preparation OCT 2021 site:
• Go to: https://cset.myexams.unisa.ac.za/portal
• Click on Log In in the top right-hand corner of the page
• Use your myUnisa username and password to login
• Then click on Sites in the top right-hand corner - next to your name

(If the IRIS practice exam is not showing on the myexams portal, then go to this link:
https://forms.office.com/r/DuaKisr5WW to request that you be linked.)
A selection of the most important information on the Exam Preparation OCT 2021 site has also
been posted on myUnisa under Additional Resources – see the folder JanFeb 2022 Online Exam
and IRIS Documentation.
It is recommended that you do not print the exam paper but rather read the questions from the
screen since this will reduce IRIS flagging.
An important consequence of the IRIS invigilation is that the exam paper must be downloaded
from the CSET myExams platform. This is to enable IRIS invigilation to activate automatically.
The uploading of your exam answer file must also be done on the CSET myExams platform.
Once IRIS has been installed successfully, do the IRIS Practice Take Home Examination (on
the Exam Preparation OCT 2021 site) by clicking on eAssessment and then on IRIS Practice
Take Home Examination. (If the IRIS practice exam is not showing on the myexams portal, then
go to this link: https://forms.office.com/r/DuaKisr5WW to request that you be linked.)
When you are done with the practice examination, please log out of the CSET myExams
platform and close your browser. It is important that you log out from CSET myExams,
especially if you happen to close IRIS while it is still running.
Please follow the above steps to avoid challenges on the day of the examination.
