Due: Tuesday, February 7, 2023, or Thursday, February 9, 2023 (Lab #4)

The document provides instructions for an assignment in an educational gymnastics class. Students must [1] create a gymnastics sequence of 12 skills incorporating different movements; [2] teach their sequence to classmates; and [3] participate in and provide feedback on other students' sequences. The sequence must include elements like various landings, balances, rotations, and locomotor skills. Students are evaluated on both their teaching and performance of the sequences.

KHS 139 - Educational Gymnastic Sequence Presentation – 10%

Due: Tuesday, February 7, 2023, or Thursday, February 9, 2023 (Lab #4)

The purpose of the Educational Gymnastics Sequence is to provide an opportunity for you to demonstrate your ability to
create, teach and perform a sequence of 12 skills reflecting the dominant movement patterns in education gymnastics
(landings, rotations, statics and locomotion).

As an individual, you will create a movement sequence that includes the following skills:

 Two different landings

 Three different balances (static skills)
 Two different supports (static skills)
 Three types of rotations which must be around different axes (Vertical, horizontal, and medial)
 At least two different locomotor skills to transition into a different skill (could be more if needed to produce a
smooth sequence)

In addition to the skills listed above, your movement sequence must clarify:
 All skills that demonstrate symmetry
 All skills that demonstrate asymmetry
 Identify Elements of Space (include concepts and variables)
 Identify Elements of Effort (include concepts and variables)

Components of this assignment:

1. Create a movement Sequence that includes the above listed criteria.

2. Bring a copy of your Educational Gymnastic Sequence to Lab#4 and be prepared to teach your sequence to a small
group of fellow classmates. You will have 10 minutes to teach and help the students learn your sequence.

3. You will be required to actively participate in attempting other classmates’ Educational Gymnastic sequences during
the lab.

4. You will provide anonymous feedback to one group member when they perform your sequence in order to practice
providing specific feedback with performance cues. Print off the attached assessment and bring the blank
document to the lab.

5. You will give feedback to your classmate when they instruct/teach their gymnastic sequence. Print off the attached
assessment and bring the blank document to the lab.

On the day of your lab, you will need:

 A pen or pencil
 A completed copy of Appendix A - Ed Gymnastics Sequence Template – completed with the 12 skills
 A blank copy of Appendix B – Assessment of Student Movement
 A blank copy of Appendix C – Assessment of Educational Gymnastic Sequence
 Clothes to be active
 Clean, dry shoes
Appendix A - Ed Gymnastics Sequence Template (Bring a word-processed paper copy to the lab)

Criteria fulfilled Movement sequence performance description

(Skill, variable) (List in order that they will be performed)

Static – 2-point Landing. Jump on 2 feet in a squat position for 5 seconds.

Locomotion transition Hop backwards straight for 7 seconds at moderate speed.

Static 3-point balance. Perform balancing on 2 hands and one foot or 2 feet and one hand at moderate
speed.

Static support Make a plank by using forearms as support for 5 seconds.

Horizontal Rotation Lie on your back and rotate 360* at a moderate speed.

Static 4-point landing Jump on your both hands and feet at the lowest level for 5 seconds.

Locomotion Transition Walk forward in zigzag at highest level for 5 second

Static 2-point balance Perform balancing on one hand and one foot at a moderate speed for 5 second

Static 1 point balance After this stand up and do stork pose for 5 seconds

Static support Lie down and use your bottom as a support and raise your legs and hands at a low
level for 5 seconds

Static vertical Rotation Stand up and rotate sideways at a moderate speed for 5 seconds.

Static Medial rotation Now rotate forward and backwards at a moderate speed for 5 seconds.

Appendix B – Assessment of Student Movement

KHS 139 When you are teaching your Gymnastics Sequence to your group members, you will complete this

Assessment on one of your peers/students. Bring this blank assessment to the lab.
Your Name: _____________________________

Criteria Fully Partially Not yet

(5-4) (3-2) (1)
The student performs landings to demonstrate safety and
control
The student performs the locomotion skills with effort and with
use of space
The student can maintain balance for 5 seconds
The student demonstrates supports with correct hand and leg
position
The student completed the different rotations with control and
accuracy
Symmetry was demonstrated during the performance
Asymmetry was demonstrated during the performance
Transitions (rotations and locomotions) were smooth and
performed without any unnecessary additional movements

Comments to support the above assessment:

What specific performance cues did you offer to improve their skills?

Appendix C – Assessment of Educational Gymnastic Sequence

When you are participating as a student in learning a Gymnastics Sequence, you will complete this

Assessment for one of the Instructors. Bring this blank assessment to the lab.
Your Name: ________________________

Name of the Classmate that instructed the Gymnastic Sequence: _____________________

Criteria Fully Partially Not yet

(5-4) (3-2) (1)
The sequence includes two types of landings.
Symmetry and Asymmetry are apparent in performance
Movements are naturally linked with smooth transitions which
include rotations and locomotions
Sequence effectively makes use of the full general Space with
the application of multiple space concepts/variables applied
Sequence incorporates original, creative, and varied
movements with a clear emphasis on changes in Effort
Balances and supports were unique and challenging in the
sequence.
