Types of Speech according to Purpose

1. Informative Speech - this speech serves to provide interesting and useful


information to your audience.
Examples:
➢ A lecture was given by a teacher in a high school or college class.
➢ College Orientation/Student Handbook Orientation
➢ A computer programmer speaking about new software.

2. Persuasive Speech - seeks to influence audience members' beliefs, attitudes,


values, or behaviors.
Examples:
➢ Sales talk (used to persuade others to buy a product or service or to accept an
idea or proposal)
➢ Debate

3. Demonstrative Speech - a type of presentation in which the speaker's goal is to


teach the audience how to complete a task.
Examples:
➢ How to bake a cake
➢ How to write a speech

4. Entertainment Speech - are speeches designed to captivate an audience's


attention and regale or amuse them while delivering a clear message.
Examples:
➢ Weddings
➢ A comedy show like Jokoy Show
