PHILOSOPHY AND AIM & OBJECTIVES OF HOSPITAL

DEFINITION

Hospital is an institution for the care ,cure and treatment of the sick and wounded for the study
of diseases and for the training doctors and nurses .

PHILOSOPHY

 To maintain the highest quality of services of curative ,restorative and preventive services to
all Persons who seek its services .
 To render high standard of patient care in all functional areas of hospital
 Commitment to research in patient care ,educational training and management
 Commitments as screening and referral centre for patient suffering from particularly
complex health problem.
 The department of nursing service of hospital recognizes and appreciates the objectives of
the hospital and acknowledges that the primary purpose of nursing is to provide the highest
quality of nursing care services that is possible in assisting the patient with meeting his daily
living needs whenever he is located along the illness –health continuum.
 Nursing management is to provide the highest quality of nursing care services
 Nursing management is achieved through professional nurses who assist in the development
Of comprehensive programme of health delivery for patient care
 Providing continues growth and development of nursing personnel and nursing profession

AIM & OBJECTIVES OF HOSPITAL


 The main aim is to curb the exploding health care costs with conservative use of
hospitalization and expensive diagnostic and treatment procedures.

 They work in liaison with a business organization to provide healthcare services to the
organization’s employees at discounted rates.

 Cost containment to limit each patient's diagnostic and treatment measures to the fewest,
least expensive procedures that will relieve patient symptoms, avert costly complications,
and return the patient to fullest possible function in the shortest time possible.
 Based on the objectives, hospitals can be classified into the following:

1. Teaching-cum-Research Hospital: The primary objective is training of doctors and research.


Healthcare is secondary. For example, Medical Colleges.

2. General Hospitals: These hospitals offer treatment for common diseases. The main objective is
to provide medical care, whereas teaching is secondary.

3. Specialized Hospitals: These hospitals concentrate on giving medical and nursing care in a
specific area, e.g. ophthalmic hospital, heart hospital, etc.

4. Isolation Hospital: This is a hospital in which client requiring isolation or clients suffering
from communicable diseases are taken care of.

5. Rural Hospitals are those located in rural areas permanently staffed by at least one or more
physicians.
