SLEWING MECHANISM

2. WORKING PRINCIPLE

2. 1. SPEED VARIATION BY FREQUENCY CONVERTER

- The winch control acts onto the frequency converter which feeds the motor with a frequency
corresponding to the DESIRED SPEED.
- The control is ensured by a control switch with potentiometer which guarantees a stepless speed
variation over the whole speed range (acceleration and deceleration).
- When operating, the frequency converter guarantees a smooth speed transition via:
` eine Frequenzrampe
` a frequency ramp
` a control of the motor torque transmitted into the masts.
Progressive stopping of the movement as the brake applies only at low speed.

2. 2. VARIOUS FUNCTIONS OF THE RVF SYSTEM

- Checks the masts tension: by means of a torque loop when accelerating and decelerating, in order
to not exceed the maximal permissible moment for the mast.
- Checks the inertia variation: without load or with load, with short or long jib, by means of a speed loop
in order to obtain the desired speed with precision.
- Checks the jib oscillation: by means of control ramps in order to control the speed variations.
- Controls several motors.

3. SLEWING LIMITER

3. 1. PURPOSE
It is provided for machines without collector. The purpose of the slewing limiter is to prevent the electric
cables from getting twisted and damaged.

3. 2. DESCRIPTION − WORKING PRINCIPLE

- A limit switch with reduction gear (1) driven by a pinion meshing directly the teeth of the slewing ring,
records the number of rotations carried out by the crane when slewing.
- This reduction gear drives cams (2) which operate the circuit breakers (3), thus cutting off the corre-
sponding movement.

3. 3. ADJUSTMENTS
- To adjust, operate ”Slewing to right” or ”Slewing to left” and act manually onto the contacts (3) in order
to determine which one cuts the controlled motion.

3. 3. 1. ADJUSTMENT OF THE LIMIT SWITCH “SLEWING TO RIGHT” (S610S)

- Slew the jib so that the electric cables are not twisted (jib position after erecting the crane).
- Carry out 1 1/2 rotation to right.

Turn the cam (1) until the Turn the cam (3) until the

For crane with collector, the wires 1 and 2, 7 and 8 are shunted. The other ones
are disconnected and insulated.

The adjustments must be checked daily at each putting into service.

Having dismantled a motor component, check the good working order of the signal lamps H302H,
H303H and the weathervaning device.

If the signal lamp does not light at the second attempt, do not keep trying. Check the wiring,
the signal lamp state, the safety contact state and the functioning of the weathervaning.

i Otherwise contact the ”MANITOWOC Crane CARE” department.
