Dear editor,

Transportation is an important resource for the community, but many people do not have access
to this especially those living in rural neighborhoods. Without public transportation, it can be a
challenge to get to doctor’s appointments, the grocery store, and public recreation. With the
rising costs of vehicles and gasoline, it has been difficult for those to have reliable transportation
to where they need to go. Rural communities are made up of predominantly the elderly
population. Most of them no longer drive or can afford to have a vehicle. This relates to the
younger population who are not old enough to drive or cannot afford to buy a car. Not everyone
has someone that is able to take them if they are unable to take themselves. With living in a rural
domain away from everything, it is not as easy for someone to walk as it would be living in the
city. Furthermore, cities usually have copious amount of transportation for its residents to take
advantage of. Public transportation is a necessity to be able to access essential community
resources. Access to transportation services should be widened to the surrounding rural areas.

Community resources are beneficial to one’s overall wellbeing. Better access to healthcare,
religious services, employment, education opportunities, recreation, community centers, and
mental health services to name a few enhance the health of people. Using public transportation
can reduce air pollution, which is unhealthy for an individual to ingest anyways. Road
congestion can decline which in turn reduces incidence of motor vehicle accidents. Fuel
efficiency is an outcome due to less gas being consumed as public transportation vehicles hold
extra passengers. Also, public transportation would create new job opportunities and lower the
cost of transporting people which would result in an expansion of the economy. An abundance of
benefits can result from widening public transport to rustic territory.

How can the absence of public transportation be resolved in country regions? A crucial factor
would be acquiring the essential funding to implement this such as grants. Money is needed to
purchase the means of transportation, such as a bus, and for fuel. To help combat cost, a small
fee can apply to those who utilize the service. Expanding public transport would be a substantial
investment.

Making public transportation available to those in rural areas can be complex, but there is a great
need. The health of the community can improve, more interaction would be perceived between
rural and urban communities, and the economy could boom because of additional people having
access to public transportation in surrounding areas. Everyone despite where they live should be
able to have equal opportunity to dependable transportation.

Sincerely,
