Chapter 3 | Lesson 5

IAN ROBERT ROA NOVAL

BSED ENGLISH JANUARY 27, 2023

Task 1: If you were already a teacher, how would you present your subject matter in meaningful
and relevant ways that will engage the student’s interest and motivation to learn?

I will create a lesson plan with which games, group activities, and strategies in which the students can get
involved actively. Simple lectures and discussion could be done but not often but only for especial
purposes only. It is important that different strategies should be applied to the Generation Z students who
are mostly destructed by the advancement of technology and different available social media they could
be addicted with. Also, the utilization of the available technology which could be integrated in the
discussions and lessons is a very powerful tool to motivate and help students become more interested in
the class which could shift their attention from distracted to academically inclined students.
Task 2: Read the research article on Motivational Techniques for Effective Learning.
A Meta-analysis by Shabeena S., et.al (2013) from source:
http://www.researchgate.net/publication/264895643_Motivational_Techniques_for_Effective_Learning_
A_Meta_Analysis.
After reading the selection, I realized that…
Motivation is a very important factor that teachers should inculcate to the students to have an effective
learning process. Motivation is the force which drives someone to do something. In the context of
learning especially of the students, motivation is the driving force which moves the students to learn, to
do the activities and assignments, and to actively involve in the classroom with the teacher and their
fellow students. Also, I found out that there are two types of motivation: intrinsic and extrinsic
motivation. Intrinsic motivation is a driving force which comes from the belief, passion, spirituality, and
perspective of the person while extrinsic motivation is the motivation that comes from the external factors
that a person may receive just like rewards and praises.
Also, I learned that there are three theories in which motivational strategies could be drawn from and
these are the Humanistic Approach, the Behavioral Approach, the Cognitive Approach, and the Socio-
cultural approach. Each approach will show us a way on how to motivate the students but based on my
perspective, I like the cognitive approach in which it comes from the belief or perspective of the student. I
strongly believe that the action of the person springs forth from his/her perspective or thinking. One’s
perspective of his/her own self, who he/she thinks he/she is, and others people are the greatest factor that
lead to his/her action.
But in general, knowing and considering the needs and even the wants of the students and use it for the
student’s advantage will be a very powerful tool to get the students motivated. Creating a motivation is
simply for teacher to know the needs and wants of the students then find a strategy or pedagogy that will
fit to their needs physically, psychologically, emotionally, and even spiritually. Touching the deeper
needs of the students which are the greatest elements for an effective learning process is very significant
in developing a lesson in which the students are learning while having fun. It requires great passion from
the teachers themselves to make such. The key here is a passionate and caring teacher.
Task 3: As a future teacher, how would your future students:
Chapter 3 | Lesson 5

1. Appreciate the value of learning through your interactions with them?

I should let them understand and experience that I am not just their teacher to teach them
academically but to help them build themselves as person. I should be caring and also loving
through good conduct, good preparation of lessons, being kind and correcting them when they are
wrong in an ethical way. Not intending to offend them but to make their conduct and behavior
right because I care for them and if it is not corrected, they will be suffering the consequences of
these. Also, I will act as a respectable teacher and let the students know their boundaries between
me and them by exercising professionalism in front of them.

2. View and appreciate the value of pursuing learning by looking at your various
activities/strategies of teaching and management of learning?

I should let my students realize that I am for them to help them and build them. I will let them
understand the significance why they need to learn what I discussed or will discuss to them. The
lessons I will prepare and discuss must have an application to the student’s daily lives that they
can value it. Also, the students should understand the need to learn the lesson for their future
profession.

In management, I should know what are those things that the students value the most and use it in
learning. I believe using the things they value will give impact to them.

3. View and appreciate the value of exerting an effort to learning by looking at your various
activities/strategies of teaching and management?

By acknowledging and valuing the efforts of the students when they achieve something even,
they don’t. It is the great motivating factor that will help the students exert more efforts in
learning.
