Republic of The Philippines Department of Education Schools Division of Himamaylan City Manuel Yulo Elementary School Lesson Plan in Mathematics 6

The document is a lesson plan for teaching 6th grade mathematics on solid figures. It includes objectives to visualize and describe solid figures like cubes, prisms, pyramids, cylinders, cones and spheres using models. The lesson plan outlines preliminary activities like identifying polygons, a motivation activity showing solid figures in a playground. It then presents developmental activities like naming solid figures based on their properties, completing tables on the number of faces/edges/vertices of each figure, and identifying figures in real objects and common items. Students will evaluate true/false statements and have a group activity identifying figures in a box or drawing figures. The plan aims to help students understand solid figures and their key properties.

sphere using various concrete and pictorial models. M6GE-IIIa-28

*Content Standards: Demonstrate understanding of solid figures

*Performance Standard: Construct and describe the different solid figures: cube, prism,
pyramid, cylinder, cone and sphere.

*Learning Competency: Visualize and describe the different solid figures: cube, prism,
pyramid, cylinder, cone and sphere using various concrete and pictorial models.

* Contextualized Competency: Visualizes and describes the different solid figures; cube,

Instructional Materials: charts, flashcards, activity cards, real objects

III. Procedure

A.Preliminary Activities

Presenting the classroom standards;

1. Be kind, polite, and courteous to others.

2. Keep your hands and feet to yourself.
3. Be respectful of classmates, teachers, and property.
4. Listen to the teacher and classmates and follow directions.
5. Work hard and always do your best.
6. Be safe.
7. Be ready to take the consequences if you break the rules.

1.Drill: Show pictures of different polygons and let the pupils identify the name of the
following polygons

2.Motivation: Show a picture of a playground with different

solid figures in each corner. Ask the pupils about the objects
they see in the picture.

What have you observed in the playground?

Can you see any dirt or garbage around the area? Why do you think so?
What have you observed in the playground?
Can you see any dirt or garbage around the area? Why do you think so?

If you were in that playground together with your family eating some
snacks like banana cue, fruits, canned juice or soda, what are you
going to do with those wrappers and empty containers after eating? Why?
How are you going to dispose those wastes?
If you do so, what traits do you show?

B.Developmental Activities:

A.Presentation
In Mathematics room of Manuel Yulo ES we placed the following objects: cube, cylinder,
prism, pyramid, etc that we use in Math class. What do you call these objects?

What are solid figures?

Can you name the following solid figures?
How can we describe them?

Show example:

(rectangular prism)

How many faces the rectangular prism has?

How many edges?
How many vertices?
How about these objects? Can you name them? Can you tell how many
faces, edges, vertices do they have?
Let’s find out in our activity.

B.Performing the Activities

The pupils will divide themselves into 3 group and answer the given questions.

What are standards in doing group activity?

1.Work silently.
2. Cooperate with the group.
3.Return borrowed materials.
4.Share your ideas.

Group 1. Complete the table below by supplying the required data.

Solid Figure Number of vertices Number of faces Number of edges

1.Rectangular
Prism
2.Square pyramid
3.Cylinder

4.Cone
5.Sphere
6.Cube

Group 2.
Name and describe the solid figures represented by the real
objects given below.
Real Objects Name of Solid Figures
1.

2.
3.

4.

5.

C.Processing the Activities

1.Analysis

After sharing the answer, let the pupils express their thoughts about the activity

How did you come up with your answers?

Solid or spatial figures are geometric figures having three dimensions:

length, width, and height.

Solid figures include:

1. A cube. It is a prism with a square base. All its faces are squares.

2. A prism. It is a polyhedron whose bases are parallel congruent polygons and whose
lateral faces are parallelograms. A prism is named according to the shape of its base.
Each face is a polygon. Example: triangular prism, rectangular prism, cube,
pentagonal prism, hexagonal prism, etc.

3. A pyramid. It is also a polyhedron whose base is a polygon, and the lateral faces are
triangle. Pyramids are also named according to the shape of its base. Example:
triangular pyramid, rectangular pyramid, square pyramid, pentagonal pyramid,
hexagonal pyramid, etc.

4. A cone. It is a solid figure that has curved surface and a circular base that tapers into
a point.

5. A cylinder. It is a three – dimensional figure with two congruent circular bases.

6. A sphere. It is a curved surface of points that are all of the same distance from the
center.

E.Application ( Home Economics Integration)

In her Home Economics class, Mrs. Bayona ask her pupils to name some of the
utensils and furniture found in their kitchen. Most of her pupils, listed the following objects
below. Can you name them and identify what solid figure they represent?

1. Glass
2. funnel
3. Water jug
4. Dish cabinet
5. Table

E.Reinforcing ths concept & skills

Let’s do this!
Name some things that represents solid figure that you
can see in your community.

F.Generalization

What are solid figures?

Can you name them?
How can we visualize and describe the different solid figures?

(We can visualize and describe the different solid figures by the number of their
faces, edges and vertices)

IV. Evaluation

Write T if the statement is true and F if it is false.

____________1. A cube has six faces.

____________2. A cone has no vertex.

____________3. A rectangular pyramid has square faces.

_____________4. A sphere is a plane figure.

_______________5. A cylinder has a circular base.
Assignment:

Choose 1 only.
1.Draw and describe different solid figures; cube, prism, pyramid, cylinder,
cone and sphere using various concrete local materials/objects and
pictorial models found in the locality.
2.Make a poem about solid figures.
