Detailed LessonPlan Math5

This document provides a detailed lesson plan for teaching solid figures in mathematics. The objectives are for students to identify faces, vertices and edges of solid figures, visualize and describe solid figures, and display cooperativeness during group activities. The lesson involves identifying solid figures through a game, discussing their properties such as faces, edges and vertices using a box as an example, listing other examples of solid figures, and doing a group activity to arrange solid figures. Students are evaluated through activities identifying solid figures in pictures and matching 2D shapes to 3D shapes. The assignment is to define a prism and pyramid prism.

DETAILED LESSON PLAN IN MATHEMATICS V

I. Objectives
At the end of the lesson the pupils should be able to:
 Identify the faces, vertex and edges of a solid figure.
 Visualize and describe solid figures.
 Display cooperativeness during group activity.

II. Subject Matter

a. Topic: Solid Figures
b. References: CO_Q3_Mathematics 5_Module 11
c. Materials: Pictures, real object, and powerpoint.
d. Values:
-Active Participation
-Show proper discipline in performing activities.
-Cooperation in doing the activities.

III. Learning Procedure

Teacher Activity Students
A. Preliminary Activities
1. Prayer: In the name of Father and the Son and
Let us stand and pray the Holy Spirit Amen!

2. Greeting: Good Morning Ma’am.

Good Morning Children. You may now Thank you, ma’am,
take your sit

3. Checking of Attendance:
Is there any absent today? (one student will tell the class regarding
monitoring of attendance)
Very good!
4. Classroom Management:
Can you please sit properly so we can
start our lesson today.

B. Preparatory Activities:
1. Drill:
Choose the letter of the correct answer.
1.This polygon has 5 sides.
a. quadrilateral
b. heptagon (expected answers)
c. pentagon 1. C
d. triangle 2. B
3. C
4. D
2.This figure is called ______ 5. A
a. triangle
b. hexagon
c. octagon
d. nonagon

3.A decagon has ____ sides.

a. 8
b. 9
c. 10
d. 5

4. What do you call a polygon with 9

sides?
a. octagon
b. decagon
c. pentagon
d. nonagon

5.How many sides does an octagon has?

a. 8
b. 9
c. 10
d.11 (one student will give his/her answer)
Ma’am our last topic was all about part of
2. Review the circle.
Okay class, who can recall about our last
topic?

The parts of a circle are the radius,

diameter, circumference, arc, chord,
Okay very good. secant, tangent, sector and segment.
What are the parts of a circle?

Very Good!

C. Developmental Activities:

1. Motivation
I have here a big box, inside of this
box has different things that’s why we call
this game “What’s inside the box?” and
as we go along with our discussion, we’ll
be able to connect the things inside this
box with our lesson. The students are expected to participate
in a given activity
After you pick your choice, describe it.
And guess what kind of solid figure is it.

So who wants to pick first in my big box?

Anyone?
.

Did you enjoy the game? Solid figure Ma’am

2. Discussion
Can you guess what is our lesson for the
day?

Very good!
So how we will describe the solid figure?

Objects such as balls, boxes and cans

are called solid figures. Solid figures are
three-dimensional figures. A three-
dimensional object has length, width, and
height. They may also have faces, edges
and vertices. A face is the flat surface of a
solid figure. An edge is where two faces
meet. A vertex is a corner where edges
meet. The plural is vertices.

(Show them a big box.)

Rectangle Ma’am.

What is the shape of the bottom part of a

box? yes!

Is it the same with the shape of the top

part? Rectangle

What is the shape of the right side of the

box?
Yes!

Does it have with the same shape with

the one on the left side? Yes!

Do the back and front sides of the box

have the same shape?
6 faces ma’am

So how many faces does the box have?

12 edges Ma’am

Very good!

How many edges that the box have?

Very good!
8 vertices

How about vertices?

How many vertices that the box have?

Very good! Yes!

Thus, the box has three- dimensional Because it has length, width and height.
object?

Why yes is your answer?

Very good! Solid figure has three-dimensional object

if they have length, width and height.
So how we will describe a solid figure?

Very good!
So, class this means that This box is a
solid figure called rectangular prism,
because of its rectangular base, has 6
faces, 8 vertices and 12 edges. That you
said a while ago.
(Some volunteers will go in front and write
Reward Time! the answers)
Now, can someone here volunteer to give
what is ask in this given figure?
(The teacher provides answerable
instructional material about Solid Figures)

Solid Figure.
3. Generalization:
What is our topic?
Solid figure has three-dimensional object
What is solid figure? if they have length, width and height.

Very good!

 Cup
Can you give me some example of solid  Can Goods
figure that we can see in our house or in  Trash Bin
school?
 Vase (Cylinder)
 Chalk Box

Okay very good!

1. Be quite
4. Application: 2. And participate in a group activity

(The class will group into 5 group)

What we should do when doing an

activity?
Very good.

For your group activity, each group will be

given different kinds of solid figures with a
twist. You’re going to arrange and build it
until it become solid figures. After
arranging it you’re going to identify how
many vertices, faces and edges.

Do you understand?

(the group activity will start)

After the group arrange and built the

given solid figures, the teacher will give
the 3 first group their box of prizes.

IV. Evaluation:
ACTIVITY 1
Direction: Write check ( / ) if the picture is solid figure and ( x ) if is not.

1. ___ 3.___

2.___ 4.___ 5.___

Activity 2
Direction: Match the column A (2D shape) to column B (3Dshape).

Column A Column B
V. Assignment
 Answer the following question.
1. What is Prism?
2.What is Pyramid Prism?
