GRADE 7 Animal Production LP (March 24)
I. OBJECTIVES
At the end of the lesson the grade 8 students are expected to do
the following with 80% proficiency:
1. Identify different feeding methods used in animal
production,
2. Explain the advantages and disadvantages of different
feeding methods; and
3. Evaluate and select appropriate feeding methods
II. CONTENT
1. ESTIMATION AND CALCULATION IN POULTRY PRODUCTION
(Feeding Methods)

3. Checking of Attendance
4. Review
Who can still remember what was our previous topics?
What you have learned about the Types of Feed?
B. During the Lesson
1. Activity/Motivation
a. Will show pictures of pigs
b. Ask the questions;
Do you have farm animals at home?
What kind of farm animals?
What are the type of feeding method do you
offer to your farm animals?
c. Present the objectives
2. Analysis
Ask the following Question:
1. What are feeding methods.
3. Abstract.
Presenting the topic using Tarpapel.
4. Application
What are the advantage and disadvantage of each
feeding methods.
B. Feeding Methods
The growth performance of the pigs is not only affected by the quantity and
quality of feed given but also by the methods of feeding. The three basic feeding
methods for finishers are restricted feeding, ad libitum, and combination of ad
libitum and restricted. The level of feeding can vary from restricted feeding (about
80% satisfaction) to ad libutum level (100% satisfaction).
Advantages:
better feed conversion ratio (FCR) (lower feed cost and better performance)
good carcass quality
better health control
less digestive problems
Disadvantages:
lower Average Daily Gain
unequal growth especially if feed trough is not long enough to accommodate all
pigs
more laborious
less chance of coping with higher market price
Advantages:
higher ADG is achieved
less feed competition
less laborious
Disadvantages:
thicker backfat
higher feed conversion ration (higher feed cost)
more digestive problems in younger pigs
less control on health problems
Advantages:
higher ADG with good carcass qualify
lower feed cost
better use of good feed (better FCR)
Disadvantages:
higher possibility of digestive problems if shifting is not properly done
less control of health problems and feed intake at the start
To determine the FCR or Feed Conversion Ration we must use the formula below:
V. Generalization
1. Why FCR or Feed Conversion Ratio is important?
Let’s have a quiz . Get 1/4 sheet of paper and answer the following question.
