Call for Artists: Nature in our City (Parks!

) Art Show and Fundraiser

The Willamette River Stewardship program of Portland Parks & Recreation City Nature works to connect communities with natural area parks in Portland through hands-on restoration and outdoor education events. In addition to working with adult volunteers, the program also provides field trips for local schools free of charge in order to connect Portlands youth with our citys greens spaces and give students a chance to make a real, visible, positive impact on the citys native plants and wildlife through hands-on activities. While the services of the stewardship program are provided for free, transportation costs are a significant barrier to these trips for many schools. Some of our parks are not easily accessible by Tri-Met and renting buses is a costly expense that some schools cannot afford. The Nature in our City (Parks!) art show aims both to bring art work inspired by Portlands amazing parks to one place as well as to raise funds to provide transportation for classes that would otherwise not be able to participate in our outdoor learning programs. The show will open on Thursday, November 3rd from 5:30pm-9pm in Portland City Hall and will run until November 30th. This is a fundraising event and artists are asked to donate at least 30% of all sales to the Willamette River Stewardship program. Submission Guidelines: All art must depict one of Portlands natural area parks. You can find a map of the parks and more information about the parks at www.portlandparks.org Our space is limited and wed like to show as many pieces as possible so please no pieces larger than 24x24. As many entries will be hung as space allows, the selection committee may not be able to include all pieces in the show due to our limited space. All pieces must be ready to hang on a wall; we cannot accept 3D work at this time (Hopefully next time!!) Artists may bring prints to sell at the opening night event but must consult with the organizer via [email protected] as venue space is limited. Artists may email up to 3 submissions in .jpg format to [email protected]. File should be labeled as: artist's last name_first name_title, with no spaces (Example: Doe_Jane_UnicornsInThePark.jpg) . Please include the following in your email: o Artist, title, date, medium, dimensions, retail price and % of sales to be donated o 200 word maximum description of each submission, including which natural area park the piece depicts. Portland Parks & Recreation may use images for publicity of this event in 2011-2012. We may ask for a high resolution image of at least 1200 pixels on the longest side - file size of at least 950kb minimum. Submission deadline: Thursday, October 13th at 5pm Selected artists will be notified by or on October 20th The show will run from November 3rd-30th in Portland City Hall (1221 SW 4th Avenue) All sales will be transacted directly between buyer and artist.
