Introductory Message

For the facilitator:


Welcome to the English 3 Alternative Delivery Learning Mode (ADM) Module
on Writing Simple Composition.
This module was collaboratively designed, developed and reviewed by
educators both from public and private institution to assist you, the teacher or
facilitator in helping learners meet the standards set by the K to 12 Curriculum
while overcoming their personal, social, and economic constrains in schooling.
This learning resource hopes to engage the learners into guided and independent
learning activities at their own pace and time. Furthermore, this also aims to
help learners acquire needed 21st century skills while taking into consideration
their needs and circumstances.
As a facilitator, you are expected to orient the learners on how to use this
module. You also need to keep track of the learners’ progress while allowing
them to manage their own learning. Furthermore, you are expected to encourage
and assist the learners as they do the tasks included in this module.

This module was designed to provide you with fun and meaningful
opportunities for guided and independent learning at your own pace and
time. You will enable to process the contents of the learning resource
while being an active learner.

LESSON
1 Writing Simple Compositions
What I Need to Know

In this module you will learn how to write sentences from various
familiar sources (poems and stories) and also use be-verbs correctly in
sentences.
You are expected to:

a. write at least three sentences from various familiar sources


b. use be-verbs (am, is, are, was, were) correctly in sentences.

What is It
The underlined words are verbs that indicate a state of being or
existence, called Be-verbs. These verbs do not show an action.
They don’t give any meaning but they are used to describe a subject.

Be-verbs for singular subject.


(am, is, was)
Example:
I am a boy.
She is a girl.
He was jailed.
Be-verbs for plural subject.
(are, were)
Example:
They are basketball players.
The players were exhausted.

Present tense Past tense


Singular is, am Was

home.

fruits, a lady came straight to his stall.

Tommy was shocked. His family were also shocked. As they looked at the
lady, they noticed that, it was the lady that they’ve helped the other day.

myself that I am the owner of this market where your stall is located. As a
gift of gratitude I will buy all the goods you have for this day”, said the
