Direction: Solve the following word problems. Show each of the four-step process. Write your
answers clearly.

1. The length of a rectangle is 6 cm and the width is 4 cm. If the length is greater by 2 cm,
what should the width be so that the new rectangle have the same area as the first one?

2. John builds a square with a side of 12 cm from some wire. If from the same wire, he builds
a rectangle with a width of 6 cm, what is the length of the rectangle?

3. The sum of the least and greatest of 3 consecutive integers is 60. What are the values of
the 3 integers?

4. The lengths of the sides of a triangle are consecutive odd numbers. What is the length of
the longest side if the perimeter is 45?

5. A family had dinner in a restaurant and paid Php 1,500 for food. They also had to pay
9.5% sale tax and 10% for the tip. How much did they pay for the dinner?

6. Pedro invested in PAKA, an investment company, Php 200,000 for two years. For the first
year, the rate of interest was 7% and the second year it was 8.5%. How much interest did
he earn at the end of the two year period?

7. A shop is offering discounts on shirts costing Php 400 each. If Juan Carlos buys 2 shirts,
he will be offered a discount of 15% on the first shirt and another 10% discount on the
reduced price for the second shirt. How much would one pay for two shirts at this shop?
