This document discusses computer memory types. It describes RAM (random access memory) and ROM (read only memory). RAM is temporary memory that requires power to maintain data, and comes in SRAM and DRAM types. ROM is permanent memory that retains data even when powered off, and includes PROM, EPROM, and EEPROM types. The document provides details on each memory type and concludes that RAM is silent, energy-saving, and extends battery life, while ROM data is not lost when powered off, cannot be accidentally changed, and is stable and cheaper than RAM.

INTRODUCTION :

A Computer memory:
It is a card made of cells that store information that is displayed on the
computer screen, In another meaning materials that are not saved in
the hard disk. It is divided into two parts, permanent memory, which is
known as ROM, and temporary memory, RAM which is symbolized by
the term random access memory.
stages of memory development :

In the early days of the development of computers, a variety of pins

called DTP were used, and the pins were installed inside gaps on the
motherboard. During the development of computers, the necessity of used
memory became greater. So, using of some kinds became difficult.
Therefore, memories had been developed for that reason. memory chips
were manufactured with all their requirements on a separate board
called PCB and this board is installed inside a special connector called
MEMORY BANK located on the motherboard.

It contains two types:

1_ RAM (Random Access Memory)

2_ ROM (Read Only Memory)

RAM :
Random access memory (random access memory), abbreviated
random access memory and known as read and write memory,
and this is a type of temporary memory used in computers, so,
where data is played, which leads to a power outage, restart the
computer.
The types of RAM :

1 . SRAM (Static random access memory)

It is a type of random access memory that is made of

semiconductor materials as its name is static means that it does
not need to be refreshed periodically like dynamic random access
memory as it uses a shutter circuit to store data.

2 . DRAM (Dynamic random access memory)

It is a type of random access memory that stores each bit in

separate capacitors inside an integrated circuit, and it is a type
of removable memory. And because the capacitor leaks electrical
charges, it needs to be refreshed continuously.
ROM :

ROM stands for Read Only Memory, and it is a basic type of

memory. As the name indicates, it contains components that are
readable but not writeable. It and the ROM memory is a fixed
memory, meaning that the data is preserved even when the power
is turned off.
The types of ROM :

1 . PROM (Programmable Read Only Memory)

is a piece of memory that can be programmed only once. After you

write information on it, it can be erased or swapped.

2 . EPROM (Erasable PROM)

is the same way of scanning data with UV light. What he performs,

what he performs, from the signature of the effect to the sensor of
special maps.

3 . EEPROM (Electrically Erasable PROM)

This memory is now used in modern motherboards to hold the BIOS.

This type of memory can erase information and re-export it. The
presence of the word BIOS in the specification of the motherboard
means that it is using EEPROM.
CONCLUSION:

Features of RAM :

 silent. It does not contain any moving parts, so it is

completely silent during operation.
 Energy-saving. It uses much less electrical power than hard
disk drives.
 Maintain and extend battery life.

Features of ROM :

 The data stored in it is not lost when the power is off.

 The data inside it cannot be changed accidentally.
 Stable and does not need constant updating.
 Its price is cheaper than RAM.
