Air gaps less than 25 mm shall only be
part of permanent assembly if it has been
tested under backflow conditions with
vacuums of 0 to 63.5 cm of mercury

2-Storey Commercial Building House, with 3m height per storey.
Water main pressure is 320 kpa, and the length of pipe size is 27
m. Find the Service Pipe size.

USING APPENDIX A
Step 2. Estimate the supply demand for the building main and
the principal branches and risers from Chart A-2 or A-3
USING APPENDIX A
USING APPENDIX A
Step 4. Determine the elevation in meters of the highest
fixture or group of fixtures. Multiply this difference in
elevation by 9.79. The result is in the loss static pressure in
kpa.
Step 5. Subtract the sum of loss in static pressure and the
pressure to be maintained at the highest fixture from the
average minimum daily service pressure. The result will be
the pressure available for friction loss in the supply pipes if no
water meter is used.

PIPE SIZING PLUMBX
USING APPENDIX A
a. If a meter is to be installed, the friction loss in the meter for
the estimated maximum demand should also be subtracted from
the service pressure to determine the pressure loss available for
friction loss in the supply pipes
USING APPENDIX A
fixture, times 100 will be the average permissible friction loss per

TRAPS REQUIRED
Maximum 1 trap is
permitted on a trap arm.
1 trap may serve a set of 3
single compartment sinks or
laundry tubs of the same
depth, or 3 lavatories
immediately adjacent to
each other with their waste
outlets 0.75 m apart and the
trap is centrally located
1.8 m- maximum developed length between trap of a water closet from top
of closet ring to inner edge of vent
