You are a research assistant at KPMG Insight Centre in Vietnam. Some of the potential
new clients have been interested in using KPMG consulting services after reading the
industry review on the KPMG Online Insights that you have contributed to develop.
You have now been allocated a new project. This involves working closely with other
senior analysts to support the ongoing work for one of the company’s potential large
clients.
The potential client in the industry* has asked for help in developing a global strategy
that will fully support organisational resource allocation and decision making. The
international operations of the business have been run loosely and, the client feels,
inefficiently. The client is aware of the importance of culture awareness and
differences, and its link to effective leadership and organisational structure so you will
need to consider this carefully.
Your role is to prepare and deliver a business report to the client, outlining a
framework for a global strategy. Having discussed this in detail with your senior
analysists, the team agrees that the business case will need to include the followings:
1. Executive summary
- Briefly introduce the name of the company with its vision, mission,
objectives, … that may be useful for its globalisation decision making.
- Clearly point out the scenario of whether the chosen company is (i) a
Vietnamese company in preparation for going abroad or (ii) a foreign
company with a plan to do business in Vietnam or (iii) under any other
circumstance to considers any change in current globalization approach*.

- Briefly indicate different decision-making models available and need to
consider for the chosen company operating in a global environment.
- Investigate the McKinsey’s hard and soft elements of the chosen company
currently with appropriate evidences
- Evaluate the influences of globalisation on each S factor with appropriate
links to the impacts on organisational governance, leadership and
organisational structure, culture and other functions of the chosen
company
- Review some literatures or best practices to support the above evaluation
and make valid and justified recommendations of how organizations
should adapt their organizational structure and strategy to support
decision making in a global context.
- Discuss some ethical and sustainable globalisation issues that the chosen
company or related industry experienced in the past or may be faced with
in the future.
- Evaluate how ethical, sustainable and other cultural factors will influence
the global operations of the chosen company.
- Provide some ethical and sustainable recommendations for the chosen
company when operating in a global market based on above explanation
of the (potential) positive or negative impacts
- Clearly point out the objectives, mission, and vision associated with the
global strategy of the chosen company. They should be consistent with the
general objectives and strategy as mentioned in the Executive summary.
- Discuss some different ways that the chosen company can work effectively
in a global context
- Discuss some key considerations or key steps to achieve competitive
advantage in the global market and satisfy the needs of different
stakeholders in a global context for each above-mentioned proposal. For
example, how to change in control, organization structure, leadership,
knowledge transfer, … for balancing the need for global integration vs local
responsiveness.
- Evaluate key risks and barriers as well as key benefits and advantages that
are associated with each chosen strategic option with appropriate
evidences and justifications.
- Rank the option or finalise a valid and justified recommendation. The
finalized recommendation should emphasize on how the chosen company
adapt its organisational structure and decision making with the proposed
global strategy to optimise responsiveness and decision making in a global

context. Some best practices or literature review should be added to make
a comprehensive and integrated solution to link from the current
successful global strategic plan and implementation to the future strategy
5. Conclusion
* The students can choose the client company for this assignment but the choice
must be approved by the course tutor and in the same industry that you chose for
Assignment 1. Students should choose different companies.
