Phantom-powered XY Mic

Here's an mp3 of a short drum solo recorded with this mic. The mic is positioned about six feet high and
two feet away from the drum set.

You'll need two of these circuits, one for the left mic and one for the right.

Here's a parts list for the electronic parts you'll need for this mic with (excluding the circuit board and the DIN connectors) along with their
digi-key part numbers. Digi-key is the only place I know of to order the mic capsules, so you might as well get the other stuff there too.

You can get the circuit board and the connectors of your choice at Radio Shack. (The circuit boards are probably in the back room.)

The circuit is constructed on a Radio Shack Multipurpose PC Board (Cat # 276-150) which has been modified by snapping off about 1/2" of its
length to provide clearance for the two DIN sockets. I used 5 pin DIN connectors for both the mic head and output connections, but it might be
a good idea to use a 6 pin connector for the output to prevent misconnection. Pieces of a plastic binder separator sheet are glued to the top
and bottom of the Altoid box to prevent shorts.

For details on modifying the capsules and constructing the mic mount, please see the modification and
mounting page.

A simple breakout box is used to interface the mic output to two XLR plugs.
