Understanding the Self
Write your thoughts about these:

1. Write a schematic representation of your family tree and identify each member with their
pictures.

My father is Jay L. Maltu. He is a moralist, a man of principles, an idealist

and a man who loves everyone. He loves everyone and responds to the
needs of anyone who needs his help.

My mother is Joan A. Maltu. She is the most powerful individual I know.

She is very beautiful and has the kindest eyes that I have ever seen. She
not only worked hard to ensure that we had a good upbringing, but was
also very strict and often punished us whenever we went wrong.

I am Justine Ana Marie A. Maltu, a current BSPSY student in PUP Sta.

Mesa, eldest among three siblings. I am passionate about my dreams
and hobbies, live honestly, and work hard to achieve all that I want to
make, to become successful in order to repay my parents for their
sacrifice.

My younger sister is Janna Paula A. Maltu, a current grade 12 student in

SRCCMSTHS. She is not the funniest, the greatest, or not the perfect, but
she is the one whom I can blindly trust. She is a very good and an honor
student. She is one of the best advisors; I have got in my life.

My youngest sister is Joanna Mae A. Maltu, a current grade 11 student in

PUP Senior HS. She is the one who can easily make me laugh. She is the
one who can effortlessly make me feel great. She is always there for me,
suggesting and supporting me.

Understanding the Self
2. Reflect and write about your ideal self and real self. How near or far are you from ideal self.

My ideal self includes intelligent, beautiful inside and out, a strong connection to God,
artistic, and knowing what she wants to be. Aside from that, I'd love to be kind, good at
fighting and to be a truly happy person inside and outside who focuses on the positive
more than the negative. I also want to be an emotionally stable person, hence to have
more of a social life rather than an introvert, for example, an ambivert yet I still
question His plan for me. Right now, I always focus on the negative. I am sensitive and
always wear my emotions on my sleeve. My real self is not confident enough to show
who I am. I am afraid to let out my real self because of some trust issues in the
surroundings. I think I am far from my ideal self but I am a young woman who is
continuously trying to grow into a better person. I intend to better myself with every
chance I get, no matter the circumstances. However, now I understand that, what I
need to do to realize my ideal self is to not think perfectly. No one is perfect and with
happiness and contentment with what you currently have is much more promising.

3. Write what you need to do to realize your ideal self.

The only way to build a strategy to become your ideal self, in my opinion, is to take a
thorough look at the big picture of your life. As a result, being this person is more about
expressing and manifesting the kindness that already resides within you than it is about
changing yourself. Acceptance of yourself as you are, I believe, is more important than
becoming your ideal self. This suggests that achieving more isn't the goal. It's not about
achieving objectives. It's all about self-acceptance and appreciation. Because it appears
to me that selfdom is more about identification than it is about what you do. It has less
to do with what you do and more to do with how you feel about yourself. If your
identity is built on achievement, I feel you will never be able to realize your ideal self.
You will never be satisfied because you will always have new ambitions. When you're
not pursuing a specific objective, you're your ideal self. It's the person you are when
you're just being and doing without thinking about where you're going. It is the self you
are when you are entirely immersed in what you are doing, and you will remain
immersed in it regardless of the results. You'd be doing it because it's the closest you
can get to being yourself — your ideal self.

Acceptance over Expectation: Life's Little Luxuries

Imperfection is beauty, madness is genius and it’s better to be absolutely ridiculous than
absolutely boring. I view myself as someone ordinary who has been bestowed with unique
traits, who aspires to dream the impossible, takes pleasure in herself and her acts, is a ray of
light blended with gratitude and morals, believes in herself before anyone else, and yet has
secrets she'll never tell, and imperfections she must accept. I am fiercely independent and I
always crave for creativity and freedom. I really enjoy spending time with others. I am always
enthusiastic about developing new ideas and meeting new people. Overall, I am a dreamer. My
life is driven by my dreams and aspirations, and these desires are the prospects for a better and
brighter future.

Moreover, I've been told how others view me by various people in a variety of social contexts. A
range of superficial judgments—-most typically based on my sense of fashion reflecting that of
someone from a high-class and snobbish background, despite I do like to dress nice, I am not
wealthy, and I am approachable. Although, I believe that my friends and family would describe
me as someone who is very kind, supportive, amusing and hardworking.

The knowledge I have isn’t to impress people. Thus, I would like others to see me as a human
being and for who I truly am on the inside beyond from what they perceive me based on their
expectations of me or based on what others' say about me. I'd prefer people to recognize me as
a full person, rather than forming an opinion about me based on a single occurrence, behavior,
or words. However, I would prefer for others to see me as a regular person who is expressing
my actual self. People should regard me as a kind, trustworthy, and amusing person who enjoys
inspiring and empowering others to achieve their best selves. I want to be known as a doer, an
achiever, a spiritual guru, and just a wonderful influence and motivator for people to follow in my
footsteps.
