PART TWO

EVANGELISM

UNIT 1. INTRODUCTION

DEFINITION.

Evangelism is the spreading of the Christian gospel by public preaching and personal
witness. The time evangelism comes from the Greek word for gospel evangelion and it
literally means gospeling. When people evangelize they are spreading the gospel of Jesus
Christ.

Evangelism doesn't just end at the spreading of or the preaching of the gospel, it goes on to
converting the hearers to Christianity. When someone becomes a Christian it means they
profess Jesus as their Lord and savior. They acknowledge that salvation is in no other but
Jesus and that by his coming on earth, his days on the cross at Calvary and his resurrection
they are saved. The blood that was shed on the cross was the very blood of redemption. It is
the blood of the lamb that washed away the sins of men.

Evangelism doesn't just end at converting men it goes all the way to making those converted
become disciples. They are supposed to be taught the word and helped to grow so they can
become soul winners and the cycle should goes on and on.
1. THE COMMISSION

1. GO YE INTO THE WORLD

Jesus commissioned the disciples to go into all the world to preach the gospel to every
creature. There are two important scriptures that speak about this.
And he said unto them, ''Go ye into all the world and preach the gospel to every creature.
He that believeth and is baptized shall be saved; but he that believeth not shall be damned.
Mark 16:15-16

All authority in heaven and on earth has been given to me. Therefore go and make disciples
of all nations, baptizing them in the name of the Father, and of the Son, and of the Holy
Spirit and teaching them to obey everything I have commanded you. And surely I am with
you always to the very end of the age.
Matthew 28:18-20 NIV

THE GOING INTO THE WORLD

As Jesus was commissioning the disciples, now turned apostles to go into the world to
preach the gospel, He did not just commission them alone, it was a commission given to us
all who believe. Remember we have been given the ministry of reconciliation; reconciling all
men to God (2 Corinthians 5:18) What the Master commanded the early church to do we
are also commanded to do the same.

We have been commanded first to "go" which means in evangelising we are not to be
confined to one place. It means we are to be people on the move always. They church that
Christ called is evangelistic in nature; it is a church that goes out. They change must go out
to the various places and not restricted to one place. Unfortunately many have restricted or
confined themselves to one place; the four walls of the church. We are supposed to go from
village to village, from location to location, from town to town, from city to city, and from
nation to nation, ensure every place is saturated with the message of Christ; the good
news. Our going out also means, our neighbors are reached with the good news and
everyone within our vicinity including our families. Just wants us to go beyond the confines
of our churches to evangelize and the word that he uses is the, "the world" (Mark 16:15)

Jesus is using a specific word in commanding us to go and preach the gospel. The word "the
world" and not the earth is very important. In John 3:16 the Bible says for God so loved the
world, that he gave his only begotten son, that whosoever believeth on Him should not
perish but have everlasting life. We again see the appearance of the same word the world in
this scripture.

God's interest in sending his begotten son is the world. He is interested in the world and
when Jesus showed up here on earth he commanded us to go to the same place the world.
He was sent to the world by the father and he's also sending us to the world. The father
gave him a Ministry of reconciliation and Jesus is also giving us the same Ministry to the
same world. The Greek word for the world is "Kosmos." It means God loved "Kosmos" and
He sent His son to "Kosmos" and the Son is sending us to preach the good news to
"Kosmos.”

God didn't send his son to the earth because the earth had no problem, similarly the Son
didn't send us to the earth because the earth had no problem. Now for you to understand
this you must know the meaning of Kosmos: Kosmos means the governing systems,
controlling systems, and powers of authority, under which, we have other systems
arranged like economics, education, media, business, agriculture, banking and so on and so
forth.

Now these systems are very important and the challenge we have is that this systems are
under the fallen man the one that was cut off from the Father. This man cannot run the
world in the manner that God wants, because he is opposed to the ideals of God: on the
other hand God's idea is that everything in this world should be filled with Him (Ephesians
4:10) for he created all things and for His pleasure they were created. (Revelation 4:11). The
fallen man is in a fallen state and whatever he touches is bound to change it states in line
with the fallen nature of the man. He is born of a corruptible seed and that is why
everything that he touches gets corrupted, just like his thoughts, his mind, and his deeds are
corrupt. As a result of that war, hunger, poverty and all the challenges that we face in this
world come from him.

By the nature of the fallen man and his state he has the capacity to destroy the environment
because of greed, lack of knowledge and understanding. The nature and the state of this
man is responsible for the destruction of resources and all the good things that God had
created for man's benefit. The earth was not created to be ruled by a worldly man or a
carnal man but by one created in the image of God with the assignment to dress and keep
the garden that he doesn't lose it. The fallen man could not keep the garden and dress it.
(Care for it)

God's idea for restoration was first of all to restore man that through him in heaven could
once again colonize the earth. So when man is born of God he's a state changes and he is
restored to God. It is through him that the world can be changed. Remember the world is
the systems of control and of governance and for this to be restored it requires the man
created in the image of God and restored to God. When this systems are restored it'll be
easy for the earth to be restored.

Now you can see the importance of our calling to go out in the world because that's where
change must begin. When we reconcile the man of the world to God there is restoration of
many things. Firstly the reserve spiritual restoration of the man in that he is original state is
restored and he has a right stand before God; and this makes him a candidate for God's use
to fulfill divine purposes of God. God wants us to go out into the world so that we can be
agents for change as we reconcile men to God.

When we change men, we touch and change the world and it's system or order of
operation. We need to place the right people in systems of operation and control.
When we talk about the world we are not talking about a place limited to our location, the
world is big out there. This is why Jesus said you shall be my witnesses in Jerusalem,
Samaria, Judea, and the uttermost part of the earth. We are commanded to go beyond our
locations so that we can reach many of different nations that is why Jesus says, "Go ye
therefore, and teach all the nations and baptising them........ (Matthew 28:19)

2. PREACH THE GOSPEL

There is nothing in this world that is better than to be a carrier of good news. We should be
motivated by the fact that we have been made bears of the good news. It is a great privilege
and honour to be the ones telling the world about our lord Jesus. There are people out
there and told and many and rich. We must tell them about our Lord Jesus from street to
street, location to location, city to city, and nation to nation.

We must preach, we must proclaim and publish the truth to all that Jesus came into the
world to die for their sins and that He was buried and was raised back to life for our
justification. Everyone that we come in contact with must hear this news as it is the best
thing that ever happened to mankind. It's a mandate that has been given to us believers
from God Himself; it's a divine mandate to preach to those in our worlds. If you are a
student you have your world of students at your campus. If you are a professional you have
your world of professionals at your workplace. If you are a woman you have your world
where they are many other women. Whatever you are and wherever you are found that is
your world for you to start from to witness and preach the gospel.

The gospel of our Lord Jesus Christ is the gospel of hope for many. It is also the hope for
nations that brings progress and development t sustainable by building on the truth of the
gospel. In the gospel there are answers to today's challenges and the hardships that
humanity encounters and faces on a daily basis. Look at what Jesus said when he went up to
Nazareth in the synagogue.
The Spirit of the Lord is upon me, because He hath anointed me to preach the gospel to the
poor. He hath sent me to heal the brokenhearted, to preach deliverance to the captives, and
recovering of sight to the blind, to set at liberty them that are bruised, to preach the
acceptable year of the Lord.
Luke 4:18-19

Jesus said the spirit of the Lord was upon Him because the anointing on Him was for the
preaching of the gospel to the poor, to heal the broken-headed and preach deliverance to
the captives. He was to recover sight to the blind, setting free the bruised and wounded. He
also came to proclaim the acceptable year of the Lord.

The gospel that He was anointed to preach was going to do so many good things to the
different kinds of people affected in many different ways. We should also take note that this
gospel was not just for a few, it was for the entire world. It contained and still contains
answers to the many questions people had and still have. This gospel car is in need so much
glory that it has answers for all that human life requires and all that with the world
demands.

Apostle Paul in Romans 1:16 said, "For I am not ashamed of the gospel of Christ for it is the
power of God unto salvation to everyone that believeth, to the Jew first and also to the
Greek, and in verse 17, it says, "For therein is the righteousness of God revealed from faith
to faith as it is written, they just shall leave by faith.

The power of God is availed any manifested through the preaching of the gospel. The
preaching of the gospel is what brings salvation to all that believe. It can touch a Jew, it can
also touch and change a Greek who is a representation of the gentile. The righteousness of
God is revealed in the gospel. The word of God revealing righteousness has made us the
righteousness of God because when we heard the word, we believed and we were
translated to becoming what the word says we are; the righteousness of God.

This gospel has the capacity and ability to change nations and the fill them with His glory.
The glory that the nations are looking for is found in this gospel and we are so privileged
that we have been called as proclaimers of the gospel. The proclaiming of this glorious
gospel has been committed to us as a trust and Jesus Christ is counting on us to fill this earth
with the gospel.
We are to publish his works; his mighty deeds that he demonstrated through the preaching
of the gospel. We must have this conviction of the power that the gospel carries and
produces. It is the hope for the hurting world the answer for the searching generation and
the restorer of God's glory in the earth.

Do you want to see His glory in the earth? The answer is "preach the gospel" for it is the
power unto salvation; it has ability to save people and nations. The righteousness of God is
hidden and revealed in the gospel.

3. IT HAS TO BE PREACHED TO EVERY CREATURE

The gospel should not be limited in:

1. Who we take it to
2. Where we take it to

Jesus in Acts 1: 8b says, "and ye shall be my witnesses answer me both in Jerusalem and in
Samaria, Judea and unto the uttermost parts of the earth.

In their mouth scripture Jesus is asking all those that were assembled with him the apostles
and other disciples that they should be his witnesses first mentioning places and by
mentioning places he is telling them who the recipients of the gospel. First it was for
Jerusalem and the Jews that were there, then Judea and then Samaria.
The Samaritans were different to the Jews and if you remember the woman at the well
whom the Lord asked to give Him water to drink and her response was, "How is it that you
being a Jew is asking drink from me a woman of Samaria for the Jews have no dealings with
the Samaritans." (John 4:9) so you can see from this scripture that there was a place and an
intended audience for the gospel.

The place was revealing who the target audience was. Similarly when the scripture says the
gospel was to go to the uttermost parts of the earth it means there was a geographical
location where this gospel needed to go. That place had its own inhabitants. There was also
a particular time allocated that the gospel needed to reach that place. Remember first it was
Jerusalem followed by the other two cities one within the Jewish set up and the other in a
gentle setup. Afterwards there were other cities and nations where this gospel was
supposed to go and these were targeted to be reached in the first and second phases after
the Jerusalem phase.

This is a clear indication that the gospel was meant for every creature in different places and
locations and t different inhabitants of those defined places. The gospel was not for a select
few; no one has ever been intentionally left out of hearing the gospel. The gospel is
universal.

And this gospel of the kingdom shall be preached in all the world for a witness unto all
nations; and then shall the end come.
Matthew 24:14

The gospel will need to be preached in all the world and to all nations for a witness. There
will be many signs of the end time but only when the gospel is preached in all the world and
the nations that's when the end will come. Jesus was speaking prophetically and showing us
what should be done for the end to come.

Whatever we see now are the signs of the end time, but the true evidence of the end is
when the gospel has reached every corner of the world and every tribe of the world. It will
only be when we have gone to all the world and to all the nations with the gospel as a
testimony or evidence then that then the end shall come. The gospel has to reach all
creatures of all the earth every village every valley every mountain and every place has to be
infiltrated with the gospel. This is the task that Jesus has given the church.

4. GO THEREFORE AND MAKE DISCIPLES: GOING IN HIS AUTHORITY.

The Lord is not slacking concerning His promise, as some men count slackness; but is long
suffering to us-ward, not willing that any should perish, but that all should should come to
repentance.
2 Peter 3:9

The above scripture shows us the desire of the Father. This is what is on his heart that no
one should perish, not even a single soul but he wants all to come to repentance. This is the
whole reason that He is sending us out that we can win souls and make them disciples that
they can also go out and do the same. In that way it will be easy for us to reach many
nations with the gospel of hope. We must work while it is still da for the day of the Lord will
come as a thief comes in the night.

We are not just going out there to preach the good news but we want it to have effect on
them so that they can be won to the Lord. When they are won to the Lord, we want to
disciple them as in Matthew 28:19 - 20.

Therefore go and make disciples of all Nations, baptizing them in the name of the Father,
and of the Son, and of the Holy Spirit, and teaching them to obey everything I have
commanded you. And surely I am with you always, to the very end of the age (NIV)

We must understand correctly our role in all this; first we have to go out and preach in order
to win souls to the Lord. When we win them to the Lord we must settle them in the church
and begin to disciple them. To disciple simply means to train the newly converted Christians
into the doctrines of Christ. When we disciple them we help them to understand more of
what has happened to them and what they have entered into. They must come to
understand what the new birth is all about. They must know what it means to be a new
creation, and what it is to be the righteousness of God.

It is important for the new convents to understand how God looks at them and how they
should look at themselves too. They have to understand that the past is not anymore
attached to them and that all things have become new. They must also no what they can do
when they're in Christ Jesus and what is expected of them by our lord Jesus. They have to be
aware and walk consciously of their new and the true identity in Christ, the opportunities
and possibilities that this life avails to them.

They need to have their eyes open to see the need and importance of hearing the word of
God and doing personal study of the word of God. They must know the importance of
meditating on the word and coming into fellowship with fellow believers. Fellowship is
important because there is something that is imparted to a believer when he comes in
contact with other believers.

Where two or three are gathered in the name of the Father He is present right there with
them. If the father is present in every gathering how much can a new believer benefit?
There will be a lot to benefit from. They will land about prayer and it's important and as
they practice together with fellow believers prayer soon becomes a part of their life. They
need to learn the importance of praise and worship as well.

Training the new believers is a Divine responsibility that everyone has in the church. When
you train others they will also become trainers of others that I knew converts. People easily
grow in the things of the spirit when they participate and practice. The more they train
others the more they have good understanding of spiritual matters and the quicker they
mature in the things of the spirit. They will be able to handle a lot by themselves and stand
in any time of trial and temptation.

The lack of discipleship is what makes men to just become benchwarmers in the church
because they don't understand the significance of going out to win souls. People have to be
taught these things in their early formative stage so that when they grasp this they will be
able to go out and do the same. This way we can reach so many people and have so many
active participants in soul winning and discipleship.

Evangelism has to go hand in hand with discipleship. A disciple is Elena who lends the life
teachings of his master and teacher Jesus Christ. A disciple has to be disciplined following
daily after his teacher. The disciple has to be taught to observe all things that they have
been commanded by the teacher. This is why the scripture says they must observe all things
not just some things but all things which means discipline is part of all things. They have to
be taught all of this.

Jesus wants us to go out and win souls and making disciples in our going out we have to go
in his power and in his authority. He has promised us the presence of his power and his
authority as we go out. He has also promised us that we will never be alone when we go out
to win souls, he assures us of his divine presence. We should never at any time and they feel
that we are alone. He will always be by our side and his power will forever be present with
us for He resides in us as His temples.

2. THE HARVEST

1. THE HARVEST IS PLENTIFUL

The basis of our evangelism is the commission that our Lord Jesus has given to us.
Remember the Father doesn’t want anyone, not even a single soul to perish but that all
should be saved. To back this up we gave us His most precious gift Jesus His only begotten
son to come and die for us.

We as a church of Christ we must have the pair of eyes that Jesus had if we are going to be
effective in our evangelism.
But when He saw the multitudes, He was moved with compassion on them, because they
fainted and were scattered abroad as sheep having no shepherd. Then saith unto his
disciples, the harvest truly is plenteous, but the labourers are few; pray ye therefore the
Lord of harvest, that He will send forth labourers into His harvest.
Matthew 9:36-38

You will notice that in the verse before our above scripture, Jesus went about all cities and
villages, teaching in their synagogues and preaching the gospel of the kingdom and healing
their sick.

Our Lord Jesus was on an evangelistic mission, He went into cities and villages. He took the
gospel to all places and to people of diverse demographics. This is what we should be doing;
targeting people of different background, the city people and the village people because
they are all His people and He wants them served.

To those who needed to be taught and grounded in the word and doctrine he went there
teaching in synagogues. To those that needed to hear the gospel of salvation he went there
and preached to them for their salvation. He did not just preach to them He demonstrated
the power of God by healing every sickness and every disease among the people.

The demonstration of the power of God was what made His fame go round bout that people
from far and wide came with their sick so that they can be healed. And when they were
healed testimonies were published in many places and multitudes came believing for their
healing and salvation.

When He saw the multitudes in the cities and villages come to Him He was moved with
compassion on them. Jesus was sympathetic and concerned for their sufferings and
misfortunes. If you are going to be a success in evangelism you have to have this same
compassion that was in Christ. This should be the prayer of the church that we should be
moved by the things that moved Him, we should weep as he wept and on the very things
that made Him weep.
We have to have His heart. His love is shed abroad in our hearts, that’s what we must be.
His spirit is in us for a divine reason that we be one in mind with Him. The mind that was in
Christ must be in us too. Compassion means to suffer together. It is a feeling that arises
when you are confronted with another’s suffering and feel motivated to relieve that
suffering. To be compassionate is not simply to tell someone that you care but you take
action to demonstrate the care even when they have not asked for it.

Men full of compassion move the Lord to do extra ordinary things because He is concerned
where there is human suffering and He is always ready to do something about it. He is
looking for those who can partner Him, those that can be His hands, feet, eyes, ears and
hearts.

He saw them weary and scattered. They were worn out with sufferings and hopelessness.
They had need for someone to care for them. They were like sheep without a shepherd.
Sheep rely on shepherds for their protection, feeding, nourishment and guidance.

They lacked one who could do this for them. Shepherds, you need to rise up to the
challenge. There are sufferings that people go through whose help can only come from
shepherds and not anywhere else. The help needed will only come from the compassionate
house of God.

The politicians cannot provide this care but the shepherds only. Jesus has entrusted us with
multitudes. The harvest is plenteous. There is so much harvest out there in the cities and in
the villages of the nations. There are weary, helpless, scattered, and distressed sheep with
no shepherd. The Message Bible (MSB) puts it even better, it says, “the confused and
aimless.”

There so many people without hope confused, having so many questions and having no
answers, then there those who have lost the reason to live; sense of purpose and direction.
They can only find peace, answers, hope, purpose and fulfilment in the Lord. This is why
Jesus is able to see the harvest. Shepherds must have the eyes of Jesus to see the harvest.
There are so many questions that life is pausing to those without shepherds. There are so
many challenges that humanity is facing in these last days. There is no way out anywhere
apart from the Lord. The Lord is going to use shepherds that will answer the call.

There is a huge harvest out there. The Lord showed Peter a picture of the harvest. When he
said to him to cast the nets to the deep. What peter saw was a huge harvest. It made him
say “Lord I am a sinner, go away from me.” He was overwhelmed because he realised what
had happened. The master then said to him “follow me and I’ll make you fishers of men.”

2. LABOURERS ARE FEW

The Lord sees a great harvest that is ripe and ready for harvest, but there is a challenge; it’s
a challenge of labourers. The labourers are few. In order for the harvest that is plenteous to
be harvested there is need for workers, the people that would go and work in the fields.
There might be many in the house of the Lord but the difference is there is few that are
labouring outside the house into the harvest. There is a great need for those that are going
to work in the harvest especially in this age which points to the lost days. There is one thing
that the Lord is requesting us to do if we are going to find such labourers.

Matthew 9:37

3. PRAY YE THEREFORE THE LORD OF HARVEST….

Pray ye therefore the Lord of the harvest

Matthew9:38

There is one request that the Lord is making; He wants the church to pray to the Lord of
harvest. There is a Lord that owns the harvest and is responsible for it. He has done all that
is required in the spirit to prepare the harvest. The requirements of the church is to engage
in prayer. Seeking the face of the Lord of the harvest. There is a specific harvest we are to
pray for, “the Lord of the harvest” telling us that there is a specific harvest. The church has
to have the eyes of the spirit open, to see the harvest. Sometimes we go into places where
to evangelise and never get results because we went into a field where the harvest was not
yet ready. We must at times enquire where our harvest prepared by the Lord is. The Lord is
the Lord of the harvest. He will show us where He has made the harvest ready; we must
make our request known to Him. He will open our eyes and allow us see where we ought to
go.

4. THAT HE WILL SEND FORTH LABOURERS

Pray ye therefore the Lord of the harvest that he will send forth labourers into His harvest.

Matthew 9:38

Our prayer also should be, to us the Lord to send labourers. In the earlier verse we saw that
the harvest was plenteous but the labourers were few. We saw the expression of our Lord
and how much he was moved with compassion when he saw their hopelessness,
purposelessness and their being weary and defeated in life.

This is the reason that the Lord came into this world and the anointing was on him to preach
the gospel to the poor. The anointing on him and the teaching on the gospel carried answers
to their poverty, healing to the broken hearts, deliverance to the captives, recovery of sight
to the blind and setting at liberty those that were bruised.

So as the harvest was plenteous there were few labourers that the Lord had. There was and
still is need for more labourers. Labourers are ones that work in the field where there is a
harvest. They are work men in the harvest of the Lord.

In 1 Corinthians 3:9 Apostle Paul puts it better and opens our eyes to the fact of who a
labourer truly is. He say “for we are labourers together with God,” which means we as the
called ones are co-workers with him. He is the Lord of the harvest and that harvest is
plenteous while labourers are few. This is the reason he wants men to pray for
labourers. Those labourers are not working alone, they are co-workers with him. He
prepares the harvest. He makes the harvest ready and all we do as co-workers with
him is to go into the harvest to reap and bring before him all that which is harvested.
This is how our ministry of reconciliation works. Apart from harvesting we have the
work of training those that we win unto him. He has empowered us us to do this
when the Holy Ghost came upon us. His power is at work with us and all believers
must understand that they are also co-workers with God In the field. Grace is already
supplied in the Lord. The Holy Spirit who is the Lord of the harvest dwells in us and
we must function taking advantage of his power in us that makes us.
5. LABOURERS INTO HIS HARVEST
We must understand that the harvest we are being called into and labour in it is His harvest.
It is a trust that He gives unto us as co-workers with Him. He has called us to be
stewards of His household. And as stewards we must prove ourselves faithful.
What made Jesus to be successful in His ministry was the understanding that He came here
to do the work of the Father that sent Him. Jesus was first and foremost a good
follower. He understood his father’s mission. He brought into it and gave Himself
fully to it. He could not do anything of His own with regard the Fathers mission, He
always did what He saw the father doing. Jesus did not change a bit of His father’s
mission here on earth. He followed everything to the letter. He didn’t bring or
introduced something outside the purpose of God. He never had a personal agenda
all he hard was what was entrusted to Him by the Father.
The harvest is the Lords and He is inviting us all labourers into His harvest.

He is the one with the ownership, and we don’t own a thing, it’s Him. Most of the times we
tend to forget the true ownership of the harvest and we begin to do as we please.
No shepherd has his own sheep, they belong to the chief shepherd. When we are
labouring we must labour faithfully as though the sheep were our own but not
forgetting that it is a trust from God and the flock is His. No pastor has his own
people or has ownership of the people he leads. They are God’s people, he didn’t
find them on his own. They were entrusted to him by God.

3. THE HEART OF THE FATHER IS THE BASIS FOR EFFECTIVE EVANGELISM

1. ITS NOT ABOUT A PROGRAM, IT’S THE HEART
Evangelism and soul winning is very important for every believer as well as the
church. But we must understand that evangelism should not just be a program to be
fulfilled by individuals and the church as a corporate body.

…………..Who will have all men to be saved and to come unto the knowledge of truth. For
there’s one God and one mediator between God and men, the man Christ Jesus.
Who gave himself a ransom for all to be testified in due time.
1 TIMOTHY2:4-6

The heart of the father is that all men should be saved and come to the knowledge
of truth. The knowledge of truth is that there is one God and one mediator between
God and men. The mediator is Christ Jesus. You must see the heart of the Father. He
has a heart; a loving heart for His people that’s why He wants them to live a quiet
and peaceable life in all godliness and honesty {1 Timothy 2:2} for this is good and
acceptable in His sight. For God so loved the world that He gave His only begotten
son (John 3:16). This is truly the heart of the father to have all men saved and lead a
quiet and peaceable life. He is not willing that any should perish but that all should
come to repentance. (2 Peter 3:9).
So when you do evangelism or soul winning whether on a personal level or as a
corporate body we should not do it to fulfill our program of activities on our
calendars. We should do soul winning or evangelism on the basis that it is what is so
dear of our Father. He couldn’t just send His begotten son to fulfill a calendar
program; He did it because He was moved by love. He had love for the world even
when we were yet sinners.

2 THE SON HAS THE SAME HEART FOR SOULS

The son has the heart like that of the Father; He gave himself a ransom for all….
Remember He was moved with compassion when He saw them as a people without
a shepherd. He made a prayer request for labourers to be sent into the harvest. He
didn’t just symphathize with them He took action for the harvest.

In john 15:9 He says, ‘’As the father hath loved me, so have I loved you…. ‘’And in
verse 13 He says, ‘’greater love has no man than this, that a man lays down His life
for his friends. ’’ Jesus had the same heart as the Father. He had and still has love for
souls. He wants us to carry the same burdens as His and win the lost and bring him
to the Father. This is His heartbeat. ‘’ The souls to be won at all cost’’
3. SHARING THE HEART BEAT OF THE SON
In John chapter 1 and verses 35-39 we are told of the story, John the baptiser. Who
was testifying of Jesus, his disciples followed Jesus and wanted to know where Jesus
was dwelling. Jesus said to them, ‘’ Come and see,’’ and they followed Him and
stayed with Him for the day. In verse 40, one of those that followed Jesus to His
place of dwelling was Andrew, Simon Peter’s brother. He first found his own brother
Simon and said to him, ‘’we have found the Messiah which when interpreted was
Christ. Andrew didn’t stop there he brought his brother to Jesus. The next day Jesus
found Phillip and asked him to follow him; Phillip also went to find Nathaniel and
told him about Jesus. Nathaniel became a follower of Jesus. This is what it means
sharing the heartbeat of the son. They each after finding Jesus went out to bring
family members and friends to Christ.

4. WHY A PASTOR MUST BE A SOUL WINNER

1. EVERYONE CALLED, HAS BEEN CALLED TO BE A SOUL WINNER
And the gospel must FIRST be published among the nations.
Mark 13:10
Everyone called by Christ whether called to a specific ministry in the fivefold gifts or
any other calling outside the five; as a believer you have been called to be a soul
winner. We must never at any time lose sight of that. The Pastor has been called to
be a soul winner so too everyone who has been redeemed. You heard the gospel
being preached by somebody and you came to the knowledge and salvation through
that preaching of the gospel. And some that preached to you were not actually
Apostles, Prophets, Evangelists, Pastors or teachers, they were just mere men moved
by the spirit and love of God to see people served. If they minister to you; you also
have a duty to minister to someone.
As for Pastors this must be on their heart to minister and bring souls to the Lord.
Nothing else should drive us than the winning of souls in ministry.
2. IT IS OUR FIRST CALLING; “AND THE GOSPEL MUST FIRST BE PREACHED”
The primary call of a Pastor is not to collect offerings, preside over sacraments and
other things. While these are important but the primary call of a pastor is to be a
soul winner. So too is any believer, their primary call is to win souls for the Lord. We
have been given the ministry of reconciling men to God. We are His ambassadors
here on earth. And soul winning is our primary calling in our ambassadorial
appointment.
Jesus said in Mark 13:10 that the gospel MUST FIRST be published among the
nations. You must understand that it is a MUST and that it Must come FIRST. We are
first called to publish the gospel among the nations. Everyone that Jesus touched,
healed, delivered was told to go and tell others what the Lord has done for him and
for her. Save for some that he forbade from doing so. The idea of telling/ testifying
to others was to publish the gospel. Remember he could say, “Take up your mat for
your sins are forgiven.” Salvation and not only healing or deliverance had come to
those He touched.

3. ALL WHO FOLLOW HIM HAVE BEEN MADE FISHERS OF MEN

Follow me and I’ll make you fishers of men.
Matthew 4:19
Fear not, from henceforth thou shall catch men.
Luke 5:10
When Jesus met the brothers Peter and Andrew by the sea casting their nets into the
water He called them, follow me and I will make you fishers of men. Jesus makes us
followers of Him for the reason of making us. He wants us to catch men and bring
them into the kingdom. Everyone born again or disciple of Christ and he/she ought
to win souls for he.she has been made a fisher of men.
4. SOUL WINNING IS WHAT BRINGS IN THE SOULS AND HARVEST IN THE KINGDOM
Every pastor must know that their cannot be kingdom expansion or church growth
without the harvest. For the pastor to bring in the harvest, he/she has to be a soul
winner, its as simple as that. There can never be increase without the labour. The
labour is the soul winning.
The enemy is on a daily campaign of recruiting people into his kingdom of darknes;
doesn’t rest day and night. His agents don’t rest too they are working overtime to
cause many to be lukewarm and backslide. The enemy is always planning and
strategizing on how to bring down many and to hold on to those he already has.
The pastors and his followers must work day and night devising strategies on how
they can win souls and bring the harvest into the kingdom. The pastor must know
that he has been given the higher wisdom in this life. Christ in you the hope of glory
for Christ is the wisdom of God.
5. THE HARVEST DEMONSTRATES THE FRUITFULNESS AND EFFECTIVESNESS OF THE PASTOR
We have been made to be fruitful in all that which we do. In the garden of Eden man
was made to be fruitful; He was commanded to be so as God blessed Him. Everyone
that has come to the Lord is blessed of the Lord and made fruitful.
And I will make thee exceeding fruitful and I will make nations of thee and Kings shall
come out of thee.
Genesis
17:6
This is the plan of God that every man that He calls out into His labour shuld be
fruitful. He purposed for Abraham to be exceeding fruitful, that means abundantly
bearing and giving results much more. When God send out a Pastor, He is expecting
the Pastor as called out one to be productive and profitable in all that he does in the
ministry. The expectation of the Lord is that in whatever we are assigned to do we
can be effective, having competence to bring out the expected results. There must
be progress in what we do, there must be in increase, growth and prosperity and
one of the areas that demonstrate fruitfulness and usefulness as a pastor is when
there is constant harvest and growth in the ministry. No pastor can run away from
that; they must produce results. As in the story of the talents the Lords expectation
is that whosever is trusted with something must be abe to produce results with it.
The one that failed to increase the talent was deemed unprofitable and unfaithful
and what he had was taken away from him and given to the profitable servant.
Pastors go out and bring the harvest that is plenteous and waiting for faithful and
fruitful labourers. You have to be fruitful in every good work and increasing.

Colossians 1:10
6. WITHOUT THE HARVEST THERE IS NO PASTOR: THE HARVEST MAKES THE PASTOR TO
HAVE FLOCK TO LOOK AFTER
What makes a pastor(shepherd) to be what he is; is the flock. The flock comes out of
harvest. If there is no harvest the pastor will have no one to take car of. The pastor is
not an honorary title, it is the work we do and are called for. The work is made
possible by the sheep we look after. The harvest is in the best interest of the pastor.
Labourers are only required when there is work to do. The work comes as a result of
the harvest that is plenteous.
7. FOLLOW THE EXAMPLE OF OUR LORD
The pastor must be a soul winner because he imitates the life of his master. Jesus is a
good shepherd and is the chief shepherd. As an under shepherd I must follow the
example of my master fot love for souls and heart to go out and win lost souls. The
master demonstrated that love for souls by laying down His life for their salvation.
Jesus was inspired and moved by the love of His father. The son was and still is in the
business of doing the will of the father. The Father was a good example to Him and
He is a good example to the pastor. The pastor must follow the footsteps of his Lord
in soul winninh. He went from city to city, village to village winning them over to the
father. The pastor should get inspiration from our Lord Jesus.
8. TO ALLOW OR INVOKE HEAVEN TO BE INVOVED IN THE WORK THE PASTOR IS DOING
When a pastor is a soul winner he draws the attention of heaven in what he is doing.
Soul winning is the heartbeat of the father and any man that is involved in what is
dear to the father invites the presence of the heaven in all that he does. When you
push the agenda of heaven here on earth the heavens get involved in all that you do
and calls you to be a success.
Abraham obeyed and accepted to leave Haron and all that was dear to him. He
wanted to be involved in Gods divine plan of making all families of the earth to be
blessed through him. In response the Lord said, “I will bless thee and make thy name
great and thou shall be a blessing.” Abraham invoked the heavens to be involved in
all that which he did. You cannot pursue a divine purpose without divinity coming to
work with you.
In Matthew 28:20 Jesus commands; teaching them to observe all things whatsoever
I have commanded you and, lo, I am with you always, even unto the end of the
world.
Jesus promises to be present with us always, even to the end of the world as long as
we do that which he has commanded us when we teach those who have been won
to the Lord and as they observe all thing he commanded he will be with us. He will
be involved in what we are doing. He will never leave us nor forsake us. When we do
his will we invite him to participate with us In our labour.

9. BECAUSE THE HARVEST IS PLENTEOUS AND REQUIRING LABOURERS

A pastor must be a soul winner because he should be the first to understand the
request of
our Lord Jesus of the need for labourers to go into the harvest. It is for this reason
that the pastor must make soul winning a priority of his life and ministry.
10. YOU HARVEST SO THAT YOU CAN MAKE MORE LABOURERS TO WORK
When Jesus saw that the harvest was plenteous though sent by God for the harvest
didn’t say our labour by myself. He instantly saw the need for other labourers and
asked that prayer should be made to the Lord of the harvest to send forth labourers.
He understood the magnitude of the work that it need much more labourers than
him alone.
When you harvest you have an opportunity to raise and bring more labourers into
the fold. When peter saw that the catch was huge he didn’t say we will handle it
alone. He beckoned other fisher to come in and help with the harvest. This is the
design of the father, that the more the harvest the more labourers will be needed.
11. TO GO OUT OF THE CONCERT OF THE FOUR WALLS AND TO MINISTER TO MANY
When the pastor is within the comfort of the four walls of his church he tends to
forget that there’s a bigger potential church out there. When the pastor is
comfortable with the same number of people he ministers to ear In and ear out he
becomes limited in his ministry and ability.
The moment the pastor will notice that there is much more out there, he will find
that there are many people out there unreached and untold of the gospel of our
Lord Jesus Christ. It opens him up to new opportunities and an all new dimension of
ministry. When Jesus was with his church he ministered to a few but when he went
out there n the cities and villages he had thousands upon thousands coming to
receive His ministry.
12. THE PASTOR IS SENT TO THE WORLD SO THE WORLD CAN HEAR HIS GOSPEL
The pastor is unlimited in terms of the audience where he takes the gospel to. Jesus
said “go ye therefore and teach all nations.” The pastor has been sent into a global
ministry and into the whole world (systems of control, governance, powers of
authority). If the pastor and his followers can not go to the world the world will not
get to hear the message.
For whosoever calls upon the name of he Lord shall be saved. How then shall they
call on him in whom they have not believed? And how shall they hear without a
preacher? And how shall they preach except they be sent.
Romans
10:13-15
There has to be someone sent to them to preach. The Lord Jesus has called for
labourers to go into all the world to preach and teach. They can only believe if they
hear someone preach to them. If they believe they shall be stopped. That’s the
salvation plan. Pastor you are sent to the world so the world can her the gospel
through your preaching. They will then believe and be saved. If you don’t go into the
world they will not be able to hear the gospel and call upon the name of the Lord to
be saved.

13. THE PASTOR HAS BEEN TRUSTED WITH SALVATION OF THE SOULS.
The pastor has been called for the primary reason of evangelising to the lost. The
salvation of the lost has been given into the hands of the pastor.
Obey your leaders and submit to them; for they keep watch over your souls, as those
who will give an account. Let them do this with joy and not grief. For this would be
unprofitable for you.
Hebrew 13:7
Though the above scripture addresses the flock in the church under a shepherd
there is something that the shepherd (pastor) can learn from it. The shepherd keeps
watch over the souls of the followers, he does not only watch over them he will give
an account to God on how he watched over them. Their souls are entrusted to the
pastor and you must notice it is the souls of those that we are calling “the harvest”
and souls of those already in the fold.
14. PASTORS HAVE BEEN MADE BEARERS OF GLAD TIDINGS
Pastors have been made to be bearers of glad tidings meaning they are called to
bring or announce good news to the people. The preaching of the gospel is the
announcement and delivery of joyful news demonstrating Gods kindness and
goodness. It brings salvation to many and are ushered into the kingdom of the
father.
Pastors have been honoured by God to be such people that bring glad tidings of
good things. There are others who are carriers of bad news and agents of negative
happenings. We see the so many different professionals whose main activity is to
bring bad news. The enemy and his agents too are bringers of bad news.
Every pastor must understand that he has been called like our Lord Jesus carrying
news of good will and not condemnation. We are to preach the gospel of grace and
not condemnation, which is the law. And such trust we have through Christ to God-
ward; for we have been made able ministers of the new testament not of the letter
(the law) but of the spirit: for the letter killeth but the spirit giveth life.
2 Corinthians
3:4-6
We are to minister the New Testament which is a message of the Spirit that gives life
not death. The law brings condemnation and the result is death.
15. PASTOR MUST UNDERSTAND WE ARE IN THE END TIMES
We are in the end times and as pastors we must at all be conscious of the time that
we are living in. understanding the times will help us to be diligent in our work of
evangelising our work. We literally have no time to rest. Our Lord Jesus is counting
on us to treat evangelism as a matter of urgency.

14. PASTOR MUST HAVE AND DEMOSTRATE THE COMPASSION OF OUR LORD JESUS
TOWARDS THE HARVEST
Jesus was moved with compassion when He went into their cities and villages.
Seeing them like sheep without a shepherd. He was touched and moved to do
something because of the state that the people were in.
As Pastors we must have the same heart that our Lord Jesus Christ had towards the
sheep. We must have compassion and demonstrate it for the salvation of the sheep.
We cannot be different from the one that called us. What moves and touches him
must also move and touch us. What is in His heart must be in our hearts. What is of
urgency to Him must be of urgency to us as well.

17. PASTORS ARE SEEK AND SAVE THE LOST

For the son of man is come to seek and save that which was lost.
LUKE
19:10
The above scripture signifys the reason for His coming into the world. He came to
seek and seek and save that which was lost. That was the whole reason for His
coming. He did not come for fame or to make a name for himself, He came for that
which was on the heart of the Father. That which concerns the Father became His
concern even when it was not easy to bear, He said not my will but your Fathers. It
was not easy for Him but it was necessary for He carried the burden of the Father.
Pastor what burden are you carrying? Does what is in the fathers heart count to
you? You must also go out seeking and serving that which was lost. This should be
your reason for ministry. This the reason for your calling. This is what seeking the
kingdom first is all about. Its about carrying in our hearts that which matters most to
God. It is not about our glory or our names or the things that are supposed to be
added unto us. Turn around stop chasing secondary things, go for what is in the
heart of the father.
18. SOUL WINNING INCREASES PASTORS SPIRITUAL CAPACITY: YOU ARE TRUSTED TO
HANDLE MORE
When a pastor engages in soul winning he increases his spiritual capacity. The Lord
gives to him a harvest in line with his capacity. When he proves faithful in handling
the harvest given to him the Lord increases him and what is entrusted to him. Do
you want to increase in your capacity? Engage in soul winning, you will be amazed at
the kind of people the Lord will bring to you.

5. OUTCOMES
5. PURPOSE OF EVANGELISM

1. THE REVELATION OF SALVATION IS RELEASED THROUGH EVANGELISM

It is through evangelism that the revelation of salvation is made known to the world.
Evangelism is an essential part of the church mission. Evangelism is to bring or announce the
good news. Evangelism is what takes the good news out to the intended audience; the
world. The people are without hope and as sheep without shepherd. It is still evangelism
that the message of hope is preached to the people.

And you child will be called the prophet of the highest; for you will go before the face of the
world to prepare His ways to give knowledge of salvation to His people, by the remission of
sins
LUKE 1: 76-77

The prophecies concerning John by the early prophets and in the passage above the
prophecy has come to pass and John is born. We are told the purpose of his birth in both
verses 76 and 77. Our interest though in in verse 77 where John has been called to give
knowledge of salvation to His [God’s] people. John was called to be a proclaimer of good
news. He was sent to give knowledge of salvation to God’s people. In his proclaiming of the
good news he was giving knowledge to the people on what salvation is all about. He was
giving this knowledge as he evangelised. And as he evangelised many repented and were
converted and were baptised in water for the remission of their sins
[VERSE 77]
When Jesus whom John had come to prepare the hearts of people for his coming showed
up; He also told us that He had come for the preaching of the gospel.
The Spirit of the Lord is upon me because He has anointed me to preach the gospel to the
poor; He hath sent me to heal the broken hearted, to preach deliverance to the captives,
and recovery of sight to the blind. To set at liberty them that are bruised. To preach the
acceptable year of the Lord.
LUKE 4:18-19

Jesus says the spirit of the Lord is upon Him because He has been anointed to prach the
gospl. That phrase to preach the gospel in Greek is ‘’enaggelizo’’. The preaching of the
gospel, the good news is the essential part of the church’s mission. Jesus then goes on to say
that He has been sent to heal the broken-hearted, to preach deliverance… John says to give
knowledge of salvation to His people. Jesus is also giving knowledge of salvation, that it is a
reality in their lives, Jesus is giving them a revelation of what salvation is and what is
contained in it and what is made available to man.
In salvation ‘’sotera’’ there is a lot that we find than just the saving of our souls from eternal
damnation. Salvation is not just about us being saved from hell, it is God’s rescue plan for us
both regarding the life after and our present day living. In the scripture above [LUKE 4: 18-
19] Jesus is revealing to us what is in His preaching of the gospel [the proclaiming of the
good news]. His preaching of the gospel has effect on the poor, the broken-hearted, and the
captives, the blind and the bruised. In Luke 19:9-10 as He is going around from place to
place evangelising, He enters Jericho and there He finds a man named Zacchaeus who
wanted to see Jesus but because he was little in stature he had to climb a sycamore tree.
Jesus said to him while up in the tree as He passed, ‘’ This day has salvation come to this
house for so much as he also is a son of Abraham, for the Son of man is come to seek and
save that which was lost. The purpose of salvation was realised in the household of
Zacchaeus through the evangelistic mission of our Lord Jesus as He went from city to city
and village to village.
Through evangelism as good news is being proclaimed, souls are won to the Lord and they
get all that which is in salvation. Remember the word salvation is the Greek word ‘’soterion’’
which speaks of:-
1. To be rescued [rescued from eternity in hell]
2. To deliver
3. Health
4. Their sum benefits and blessing that the redeemed enjoy
5. Preservation
6. Safety
2. A CHANNEL TO FULFILLING GOD’S PURPOSE OF WINNING THE LOST
For the son of man came to seek and save that which was lost.

LUKE 19:10
The purpose of the Son coming here on earth was to seek and save that which was lost. The
Father is not willing that any should perish, that all should come to repentance, [2 PETER3:9
b] and God or Saviour [Jesus] who will have all men to be saved and come to the knowledge
of truth. [1TIMOTHY 2:4]
Jesus knew what was in the mind of the Father concerning the lost. The Father wanted all
men saved and that none should perish. He had to come as that one mediator between God
and men and gave Himself a ransom for all. He was sent of the Father to be that mediator.
He came for a divine purpose of seeking and saving that which was. He accomplished it
through His sufferings, death on the cross, His burial and His resurrection. He has now made
us ambassadors and given us the ministry of reconciliation.
Then said JESUS to the again, peace be unto you; as my Father hath sent me, even so I send
you.

John 20:21
The Father’s idea and plan is that none should perish, so the Father sent the son to win the
lost. He came seeking the lost that He should save them. As the Father sent Him, He is also
sending us to seek and to save that which was lost. Evangelism is the channel we use for
winning souls.
The whole church the Pastor, Elders, Deacons, and membership must all come to
understand the significance of evangelism as a channel which carries God’s purpose of
winning souls. Evangelism in the church should not be left to a few people or a small section
of the church, every leader and member must be active participants in soul winning.
3. A DEMOSTRATION OF THE LOVE FOR SOULS
When the church actively engages in evangelism it demonstrates the heart of the Father
towards humanity. The son too loved souls and was moved with compassion.
Greater love hath no man than this that a man lay down his life for his friends.

JOHN 15:13

This was the greatest demonstration of love. The Father first loved the world; He acted by
giving His begotten son to us. His son loved us as His friends and demonstrated that love by
laying down His life just for us. He wanted to win us back to the Father. He had and has love
for soul.
If we engage in evangelism we are also demonstrating the heart of the Father and the Son;
the heart of love for souls.
This is my commandment, that we love one another as I have loved you. [JOHN 15:12] Jesus
wants us to love one another just as He loved us. He loved us and laid down His life for us.
We must love one another even the lost that we are ready to lay our lives for them. As we
go out evangelising and even in the remotest of places there is a kind of laying down of our
lives for the sake of the souls we want saved. This evangelism is all about demonstrating the
love of our Lord.
4. TO ESTABLISH THE CHURCH IN ITS PRIMARY ROLE OF HARVESTING OF SOULS.
When the church engages into activities that uplift the lives of people and those within the
community of its existence; it is something very commendable. We have seen churches
build schools to help the community that availability of educational facilities is within a
walking distances. The churches have helped communities to have access to quality
education and contribute to having an educated population. Some churches have invested a
lot in the health sector by building hospitals and clinics helping their communities have
access to good health services. Some churches have come in to help where government and
local authorities could not provide such services. There are churches also that have gone
into business ventures creating opportunities to economic activities and participation in
their local communities and have contributed a lot to job creations. All this and the many
other initiatives of the church to minister to man is his totality spirit, body and soul.
All the above good work should not come at the expense of the primary role of the church
and that is the evangelism and win souls.
Go ye therefore and teach all nations, baptising them in the name of the Father and of the
Son and of the Holy Ghost, teaching them to observe of things whatsoever i have
commanded you and lo, I am with you always, even unto the end of the world.
MATTHEW
28:19-20
Go ye into all the world, and preach the gospel to every creature

MARK 16:15
But you shall receive power after that the Holy Ghost is come upon on you; and ye shall be
my witnesses unto me both in Jerusalem and in all Judea and Samaria and unto the
uttermost part of the earth.

ACTS 1:8
You can see that from all these scriptures the primary purpose of the church is:-
1. Going out in to the nations
2. Going into all the world.
3. Teaching all nations
4. To preach the gospel to every creature
5. To be witnesses of Jesus.
We are sent to the world and to the nations with the purpose of reconciling men to the
Father. That is why we have been given the ministry of reconciliation.
The heart of the Father is that no man should not perish. We must have the same heart of
the Father and make evangelism the very reason of the church’s existence and make
everything else as secondary. We must never change the primary role of the church with
business ventures of the church.
5. FULFILLING GOD’S COMMAND TO GO AND PREACH AND MAKE DISCIPLINE OF ALL
NATIONS
Evangelism allows us to obey the command of our Lord Jesus to go and preach to the
nations and to making disciples. He desires for us to make disciples, to make followers of
Christ increase in number so that we can train them that they can also become disciples and
train others. As we do that we are increasing and daily growing the numbers of the disciples.
As we grow these we growing the number of labourer’s for Christ so that the gospel be
preached in every corner of this world.

6. A CHANNEL OF THE EXTENSION OF GOD’S KINGDOM

In the book of Acts chapter 2. When the Holy Ghost had come upon the church, in verse 41-
47 after Peter had stood up to preach to the crowd, we hear that they gladly received his
word [his preaching of the gospel] and were baptised. That day alone three thousand were
added to them. Then Phillip went down to the city of Samaria and preached Christ unto
them. And the people with one accord gave heed unto those things which Phillip spake,
hearing and seeing the miracles which he did. For unclean spirits, crying with the loud voice
came out of many that were possessed with them and many taken with palsies, and that
were lame were healed. And after there was great joy in that city.

ACTS 8:5-7
The preaching of the gospel, the witnessing of our Lord Jesus started in Jerusalem. Mighty
deeds were made by the Apostles as they preached the gospel. Many came and became
part of what the numbers were being added to the believers in Jerusalem.
In the above scripture we see the preaching of the gospel extending to Samaria. Phillip was
the one used mightily to touch Samaria before the Apostles came to see what the Lord was
doing in Samaria. There was a great witnessing in Samaria in that. All that which the Lord did
in this earthly ministry was published by Phillip. The miracles which he did, the coming out
of unclean spirits from the many that were possessed, the lame being healed proved the
geniuses and the strength of his faith in Christ. He was a genuine witness demonstrating the
works of his Lord. There was a great joy in that city meaning almost if not the whole city was
changed and won to the Lord.
Simon the sorcerer who had bewitched the entire city when they all gave heed to him also
believed as Phillip preached. All those that were under Simons spell were delivered and
believed.
Evangelism brought the good news to Samaria that even those who were gentiles came to
the Lord and the gift of the spirit came upon them. Samaria was regarded outside those of
the house of God but the gospel was extended to them therefore extending and growing
the kingdom of God. Evangelism can take us to places we never imagined for the purpose of
kingdom extension.
7. PROVING OUR OBEDIENCE AND FAITHFULLNESS TO GOD
Evangelism and soul winning should and must be the heartbeat of the church. We cannot
afford to be any different from our Lord. It is first on His heart so should it be to the church.
We must be obedient to this command and faithful is carrying it out the way He would have
done Himself.
In Acts 1:8 Jesus is charging the disciples to be His witnesses first in Jerusalem, Judea, and
Samaria when the Holy Ghost has come on them. In chapter 2 the promise of the Holy
Ghost is fulfilled and the church begins to function in line with the purpose of our Lord. In
Jerusalem the numbers of believed are increasing and they are gaining favour in the city.
You will notice that as the church was doing well in Jerusalem in the Apostles doctrine, the
breaking of bread in fellowship and in prayer they got used to how things were working in
Jerusalem. They became comfortable forgetting that their assignment was not for Jerusalem
only. They needed more to the next cities Judaea and Samaria and to the most part of the
earth. Their failure to move into other cities was frustrating the plan and the purpose of our
Lord to go into those places.
And Saul was consenting unto his death. And at the time there was a great persecution
against the church which was at Jerusalem; and they were all scattered abroad throughout
the regions of Judea and Samaria except the Apostles.
Acts 8:1
It had to take Sauls persecution of the church at Jerusalem to make them go in the places
that the Lord had commanded them to go with the preaching of the gospel. That’s when we
see Philip coming to Samaria followed by the Apostles visit and then Judea was touched as
well. The church doesn’t have to wait for persecution to go out into the places of their
mission.
The Lord is waiting for us to go into the nations and the world in obedience to His
command. We must be a faithful church to the purposes of God meant to be achieved
through us. We are the church and God speaks and acts through the church. We are His
mouth, eyes, ears, hands and feet to go out and touch lives. If the church cant be obedient
and faithful then the Lord has a church that He cannot speak and act through. Let the
church be obedient that through its engagement in the primary role of preaching the gospel
the purpose and plan of God can be fulfilled. Every church active in evangelism and soul
winning is obedient to the command and proving herself faithful to God.
8. A CHANNEL FOR CHURCH GROWTH
Evangelism is a channel for church growth. We see it in the gospels that when Jesus went
from place to place they were multitudes following Him as He preached the gospel in their
cities and their villages.
Jesus first started His ministry by calling and preaching to a few. We see in Matthew 4:18-
22. He started with simon and his brother Andrew when as they were casting their net into
sea. He asked them to follow Him and they did and left everything behind. Afterward He
found the two sons of Zebedee James and John. He called them and they immediately left
their ship and father to follow Him. This was Jesus’s personal evangelism. He found His first
followers by way of personal evangelism. It is the same way that He found Matthew and
others. Some He found them at their work place (the world) and called them from there.
In following verses from 23 to 25 Jesus went about teaching and preaching the gospel of the
Kingdom and healing all manner of sickness and all manner of sickness and all manner of
disease among the people. His fame went throughout all Syria and the sick were brought to
him with diver’s diseases and torments, those possessed with devils and those which were
lunatic. He healed them all.
And there followed Him great multitudes if people from Galilee and from Decapolic and
from Jerusalem, Judea and beyond Jordan. The followership that started small through
personal evangelism grew into crusades from city to city and from village to village
attracting multitudes of followers. That’s how His Church began to grow.
We also see how the early church grew through evangelism. In Acts 2:14-41 we see when
Peter preached the first message as led by the Holy Ghost that the church that was one
hundred and twenty in the upperoom gained three thousand more members. As they
preached and taught from house to house the Lord was doing adding numbers to them that
in no time they wer five thousand. When they moved into other cities like Samaria and
Judea through Philip the numbers rose that the whole city came to the Lord. They had to
have the Apostles follow on the church in Samaria from Jerusalem to witness what the Lord
had done in that city. The church began to grow even with gentiles as the Lord added them.
Evangelism is a channel of church growth. Jesus demonstrated this to us through personal
evangelism and crusades that this was the channel to grow the church. The early church
demonstrated the same through evangelism.
9. TO INCREASE AND PUBLISH THE TESTIMONY OF JESUS AND HIS MIGHTY DEEDS
And He entered into a ship and passed over and came into his own city and behold they
brought to Him a man sick of the palsy, lying on a bed: and Jesus seeing their faith said into
the sick of palsy; son, be of good cheer; thy sins be forgiven thee.
Matthew
9:1-2
Arise take-up thy bed and go unto thine house. And he arose and departed to his house. But
multitudes saw it, they marvelled and glorified God which had given such power unto men.
Matthew
9:6-8
Our Lord Jesus went about publishing the mighty deeds of God. As He went into
Capernaum. He healed the man that was brought before Him that was bedridden sick of
palsy. When He commanded the man to arise and take up his bed the multitudes that
witnessed this miracle were in awe of the mighty deeds of God and glorified Him. Jesus
again in Matthew 9:27-31 when He made the two blind men to see as He was passing
through Jericho with multitudes following Him, published the mighty deeds of God as the
news of Him and what He did was spread all over the region. Jesus came to make known the
fathers mighty deeds through His evangelistic mission. And He said, “as the father has sent
me so do I send you also.”
And it came to pass as Peter passed throughout all quarters, he came down also to the
saints in Lydda. And there he found a certain man named Aeneas, which had kept his bed
eight years and was sick of palsy. And Peter said unto him, Aeneas, Jesus Christ maketh thee
whole: arise and make thy bed. And he arose immediately. And all that dwelt at Lydda and
Saron saw him and turned to the Lord.
Acts
9:32-35
Peter had witnessed how his maser dealt with the man that was brought to Him bedridden
sick of palsy in Matthew 9:1-8: and he too understood that as the father had sent the so, so
too did the son send him and the other disciples. Peter saw how Jesus published the mighty
deed of the father, he too published the mighty deeds of our Lord Jesus by healing the man
with palsy. He said to Aeneas, “Jesus Christ maketh thee whole, arise and make thy whole.”
Exactly the words of His Master when He healed the man in Capernaum. The testimony of
Jesus was once more made public for all to see. The scripture says all that dwelt in lydda and
Saron saw what happened and they all turned to the Lord. In the following verses from 36 to
42 we see another miracle like one which his master did of raising someone from the dead.
Tabitha by interpretation being dorcas was disciple full of good works and alms deeds. She
became sick and died and when the people of Joppa heard that Peter was in the city close
by in Lidda they sent for him. Peter came to Joppa and prayed for Dorcas as he asked
everyone to leave the room. He saw his master do this as He prayed for the dead to come
back to life. So Peter prayed and Dorcas opened her eyes and sat up. She was presented to
the gathered people alive and this was published in all Joppa and many believed the Lord.
In Samaria (Acts 8) we saw how the whole city was delivered from the spell cast on them by
simon the sorcerer. They were all delivered that even the sorcerer himself believed on the
Lord and all this was published through Samaria and the regions around. Evangelism is what
increases and publishes the mighty deeds of the Lord. Do we want the world to know
master and His mighty works? If the answer is yes then get onto evangelism and see how
the people will respond as the mighty deeds of God are being published.
10. TO STOP INCREASE AND PENETRATION OF EVIL IN SOCIETY: RAISING THE LIGHT OF THE
WORLD AND THE SALT OF THE EARTH
Evangelism is the tool that helps to stop the penetration of evil in society. When Philip went
into Samaria on an evangelistic trip he went into a city where evil was reigning through
witchcraft powers of simon. He had the whole city under him. They all gave heed to him
from least to the greatest. He gave himself out to them as the great one. And to him they
had regard because of the long time that had bewitched them with sorceries. When the
people heard Philip preach the gospel of the kingdom and the name Jesus Christ they were
baptised both men and women. The entire city was delivered from evil which occupied the
city and bound its people. This was all done through evangelism. (Acts 8:1-25)
The same happened in paphos where Paul and barnabas were ministering. They found in
that place a sorcerer and a false prophet bar. Jesus also known as Elymas by interpretation
He had control over Paphos including the governor himself Sergius Paulus. Elymas resisted
Paul and Barnabas that they shouldn’t come to the governor so that he doesn’t hear the
word preached by Paul. Paul received the works of darkness that Elymas was involved in.
Paul prayed and Elymas lost sight as a mist and a darkness fell on him. The governor
believed the doctrine of Paul. If the governor believed it meant that the whole city believed.
Evangelism is the tool to use to stop evil from penetrating into society. Do not under
underestimate the power of the preaching of the gospel for it is the power unto salvation.
11. FOR DESTROYING THE WORKS OF DARKNESS
The preaching of the gospel is what we use to destroy the works of darkness.
The thief cometh not, but to steal, and to kill and to destroy. I am come that they might
have life and that they might have it more abundantly.
John
10:10
The thief is the devil the enemy of our Lord and our enemy. The thief only comes to steal kill
and destroy. These are works of darkness. Jesus says , He came to give life meaning that
which the enemy was stealing, killing and destroying our Lord Jesus had come to restore and
reforming and giving it back to us abundantly. How was this going to be fulfilled? Its by the
preaching of the good news. In the good news is life hope and divine destiny.
12. FOR THE TRANSFORMATION OF COMMUNITIES AND SOCIETY
The preaching of the good news is what transforms our community when the early church
Apostles preached cities were being turned upside down. An entire city would have its
citizens become believers. When a city was full of believers it meant there were
transformed people in the city. And when the city has transformed people there is Godly
citizenship and the fear of God takes over the city. Evil is not permitted to reign in such a
city. There is peace in such a city, there is love, unity and the rule of law prevails in the city
and when the righteous are in authority the city rejoices. The economy of such a city thrives
because righteousness exalts a nation but sin is a reproach to any people. (proverbs 14:34)
13. A MEANS TO POPULATING HEAVEN AND DEPOPULATING HELL
When many come to the knowledge of Christ, it means hell is losing and heaven is gaining.
This is why there is celebration in heaven when even a single soul is won to the Lord.
6. THE REWARD OF SOUL WINNING TO A SOUL WINNER
1. GREAT JOY AND MEANING IN ONES LIFE AND A SENSE OF PURPOSE
What man of you, having a hundred sheep, if we lose one of them, doth not leave the ninety
nine in the wilderness, and go after that which is lost until he find it. And when he hath
found it he layeth it on his shoulders rejoicing. And when he hath found it he layeth it on his
shoulders, rejoicing. And when he cometh home, he calleth together his friends and
neighbours, saying unto them rejoice with me; for I have found my sheep which was lost. I
say unto you that likewise joy shall be in heaven over one sinner that repenteth more than
ninety and nine and just persons, which need repentance.

Luke 15:4-7
The above story gives us a picture of what happens when a sinner; a sheep which was lost is
found. The owner of the sheep lives the ninety nine sheep in the bush and goes to look for
that one sheep that is lost because of him every sheep is important. When he has that
sheep he is full of joy. He doesn’t rejoice by himself he calls friends and neighbour to come
and celebrate with him. So too is it in heaven when a sheep that was lost is won into the
kingdom. Imagine that kind of joy and what it makes the man feel; it makes him feel like he
has found his lifes purpose, the true meaning of life. This is the primary call of any believer
to win souls for the Lord and if a believer does that he is filled with great joy and a sense of
purpose and fulfilment. There is no greater joy than this; to do the will of the father because
you know that heaven too is rejoicing over the soul that has been won.
Every person finds pleasure in doing what is good for the one that you love. If you love the
Lord you will do that which pleases Him and brings joy to Him. Just knowing that the Lord is
pleased with the one sheep that is found makes you also feel pleased with what you have
achieved for the Lord. The same applies to a church that is in soul winning. It makes them
feel that sense of purpose and joy when they do the will of the father. It makes them willing
to do more.

2. DIVINE PRESERVATION
Because he hath set his love upon me therefore I will deliver him: I will set him on high,
because he hath known my name.
He shall call upon me, and I will answer him. I will be with him in trouble; I will deliver him,
and honour him with long life will I satisfy him and show him my salvation.
Psalm
91:14-15
God loves people; He wants to have none perish but be saved. He demonstrated His love by
giving His only begotten son to die for mankind. Anyone who loves God loves what really
counts to God; soul winning. And if anyone has set his love on God, He say, “I will deliver
him. God will deliver those that love him and will set them on high meaning He will honor
them when they call Him in their time of trouble He shall be with them and honour them
and show them his salvation. Every soul winner loves what God loves most and that makes
him a lover of God one who sets his love on God. God will preserve such a person. He will be
granted divine cover and preservation.
3. GUARANTEES SUPERNATURAL PROVISION AND ASSISTANCE
But seek ye first the kingdom of God and His righteousness and all these things shall be
added to you.

Matthew 6:33
It is important for every Christian to understand the principle of seeking the Kingdom of God
fist and His righteousness. By following this important principle you invoke a supernatural
provision to yourself. You don’t have to chase for certain things like the unbelievers do
because your God knows you have need of such things. In seeking the kingdom you learn
that which is important with regards to the kingdom of God. You learn the importance of
growing and increasing the kingdoms influence here on earth. You grow the influence of the
kingdom by extending its territory of influence is extended by the recruitment of many into
the kingdom. The recruitment is done and activated through soul winning. That tells you
that soul winners are people who seek the kingdom and it’s righteousness first. If soul
winners are seekers of the kingdom then they are guaranteed a supernatural provision and
supply to their lives. Heaven comes in to assist them and there is always divine assistance
because heaven is always involved in what they do.
If we have sown unto you spiritual things, is it a great thing if we shall your canal things.
1
CORINTHIANS 9:11
Those who win souls can be likened to the shepherd who minister and sow spiritual things
to the flock. Soul winning is a spiritual ministry. You win souls to the Lord and you establish
those souls to the kingdom or the house of God by discipling them. That’s a spiritual
ministry and you are ministering and solving spiritual things to them. You become a partaker
to that which the minister partakers spiritually. You make yourself a reaper of carnal things
by heaven’s influence. This is a kingdom truth and reality that when you make spiritual
impact in the lives of people, God becomes your rewarder. He touches people to make
available to you carnal things that you require. There is nothing that beats evangelism and
soul winning in making supernatural provision to someone. Soul winning commits God to
work with you and for you. He confirms the word in your mouth with signs, wonders, and
miracles. If you ever want to experience signs, wonders and miracles become a soul winner
and you will your hands doing mighty things in the name of our Lord Jesus and the grace
that He supplies. He supplies you with the grace of an evangelist in which signs, wonders
and miracles are the order of the ministry.
This is simply because you meet some people in soul winning, who are suffering from many
things including sicknesses and demonic oppression. Your coming their way is to be a sign to
them and when the Lord does something miraculous it becomes easy for them and those
around them to believe.
4. YOU ARE GUARANTEED ACCESS TO THE DIVINE PRESENCE
Every soul winner is a doer of that which is important and first to God. Doing that which is
the heart of the Father attracts the divine presence. God is always close and available into
the life of a soul winner. Look at Stephen and Phillip. They were mere deacons; not that we
underestimating the work of a deacon but we are speaking in terms of pre-eminence in the
church. The Apostles, Prophets, Pastors and so on are the very prominent ones in the
church. These young men’s job was to wait on the tables. They were people whose duty was
to run around being sent here and there to make sure that all was taken care of in terms of
ministry and people’s needs. But these young men decided to be soul winners and started
conducting crusades from one place to another and as they did that they attracted to
themselves the divine presence of God that mighty deeds of God were published by them.
Many were saved, healed and delivered in the cities and villages they went in yet they were
just normal deacons. Their secret was that they got involved into something that attracts
the divine presence of God. Jesus said, ‘’ The Spirit of the Lord is upon me, because He has
anointed me to preach the gospel….LUKE 4:18’’. The spirit was upon Him and the anointing
to preach the gospel speaks of the divine presence and the working of God in His life
because of the assignment to preach the gospel that wins souls to the Father.
God will never fail to be involved and present where souls are concerned because that is the
very thing upon His heart and very primary purpose of the church.
Teaching them to observe all things whatsoever I have commanded you and lo, I am with
you always even into the end of the world.

MATTHEW 28:20
He promised that He will always be with us to the very end as long as we are teaching and
preaching in the nations the gospel. It’s a promise of His divine presence and that no matter
what we face He will always be present. His divine presence will be with us causing us to be
victorious and preserved.
5. BEAUTIFIES YOUR FEET AND CAUSES PEACE
How beautiful upon the mountains are the feet of him that bringeth good tidings that
publisheth peace; that bringeth good tidings of good that publisheth salvation; that saith
unto Zion thy God reigneth.

ISAIAH 52:7
The soul winner’s feet are described as beautiful feet upon the mountains. They are
beautiful feet and elevated upon the mountains because they bring good tidings. The feet of
a soul winner when they come into a place they bring a message of hope, meaning to life a
future and eternal life. Eternal life is the life of God the life that has no ending and a life
doesn’t fail. It is a life that has passed on death unto life. This is the life that makes man
have confidence knowing that the life of God he carries on the inside has effect on all that
which he does. The man ceases to be a failure and failure is not associated with him, the life
of God has possessed him and taken over.
The good tidings is the good message that offers deliverance and miracles into reality in
someone’s life and takes away emptiness and meaninglessness.
The feet of the soul winners bring good news that proclaims peace in a place and to its
people and the good news announces salvation.
If you are a soul winner your feet are elevated, you are made beautiful at the mountain top
and the peace of God reigns in your life. Everyone that brings good news of hope, peace,
purpose and salvation, he too cannot carry and distribute what you don’t have. In the spirit
you are only permitted to give that which you have.
6. SOUL WINNING MAKES SOMEONE WISE
The fruit of the righteous is a tree of life.
And he that winneth soul is wise.

PROVERBS 11:30
Christ is the wisdom of God’ He came to reconcile men unto God and everyone who has
been given the ministry of reconciliation and is active in the ministry is also wise, what Christ
is, the soul winner has been made to be the same. If Christ is the wisdom of God and the
same Christ is in you it means you are also in the same class with Him. The same wisdom in
Him is also in you.
You are counted a wise man by God. A wise man has the mind of Christ. He thinks like
Christ, understands like Christ. He is wise because he has understanding of what is
important and the heartbeat of the Father. He has the mind of our Lord.
A wise man has uncommon insight; clear, deep understanding, perception and penetration
of a situation, subject or mystery. The ability and intelligence of this kind of a man is
unmatched and God can trust him with much more in this life.
When you are wise you do deal wisely in all your affairs. You know what to do, how to do
and when to do in any matter that is before you. You don’t live and walk in mistakes of life
and because you don’t make mistakes of life there is speed in your life with no regrets of
life. For a wise man always gets the results that he wants in this life.
7. THE CROWN OF THE WISE IS THEIR RICHES
The crown of the wise is their riches: But the foolishness of fools is folly.
PROVERBS
14:24 TPT
The wise have been made to have a lasting valuable wealth in form of their wisdom.
Wisdom brings diligence. The wise are regarded highly by all. A godly wise person is diligent
and hardworking. The wise use their wealth to serve God and humanity. They know they are
called to serve. The spirit of God guides them and they are anointed and elevated to think
from God’s perspective. The spirit of God guides them to know the right choices they have
to make and to know where to go and to follow the right path in fulfilling their God ordained
destiny. Wisdom makes them do excellently in all that concerns life and ministry. The soul
winners are the wise.
On the other hand fools engage in foolishness. The fools lose what they have because they
don’t serve God with it. They enrich themselves for personal gain and ambition. They even
commit sin with what they have gained and end up losing it all.

8. SOUL WINNERS SHINE AS THE BRIGHTNESS OF THE FIRMAMENT

And they that be wise shall shine as the brightness of the firmament; and they that turn
many to righteousness as the stars for ever.

DANIEL 12:3
Soul winners are the wise. They are those that have lived wisely, because they have brought
many into the kingdom. God makes such people shine brilliantly. You cannot do what God
loves most and remain the same. He will always make you shine and stand out. Look at
Peter, Stephen, Phillip, Paul and others recorded in the scripture. They were soul winners
and look at how they were distinguished in the bible. God made sure there was something
unique about them. Their hearts were about turning many into righteousness; they put
many on the right path to life. As a resuly God made them to glow like stars forever. Even
today though long bgone into glory, they are still speaking to us.
If a man desires a long lasting legacy, remembered by heaven and earth he ought to be a
soul winner. Your light and brightness and your shining star can never be put out by anyone.
What you are involved in whether ministry, career, business family will forever shine
because you have attracted God to yourself. Those that win souls and soul winning is at the
core of what they do as a church are made stars and the talk of the town because of the
numbers they attract. It is the same for an individual who is a soul winner, God makes it sure
that the person becomes the star and a point of reference to many because many people
carry good testimonies about them as soul winners. Everyone one won by them testifies
before many and that makes them shine before all and all that which they are involved in
shines with them.
9. SOUL WINNERS FLOURISH AND BEAR LASTING FRUITS
The fruit of the righteous is a tree of life: And he that winneth souls is wise.
It is important to have a good understanding of the righteous. In 2 Corinthian 5:21 it reads,
‘’For He hath made Him to be sin for us, who knew no sin; that we might be made the
righteousness of God. Jesus didn’t know or commit any sin even in His earthly ministry. He
took our place, He was made to be sin for us by the Father. It is His taking our place and sin
that we were made the righteousness of God. We didn’t work for it, He supplied it to us.
Everyone that is in Christ is the righteousness of God. So righteousness is a gift, we have
been made righteous because we have been given a new life in Christ and the new life is not
the same life you had before that was subject to sin. We have been justified by faith and we
have peace with God through our Lord Jesus Christ. Being justified means to be declared
righteous. Righteousness is what gives man the ability to stand in the presence of God
without guilt, fear, condemnation and a sense of inferiority.
The way to come into this extraordinary life of righteousness and oneness with the Lord is
through the preaching of the gospel. The gospel is the answer to the man’s hopelessness,
life meaninglessness and weariness. We are not called to be silent when it comes to the
preaching of the gospel; we have been commanded to preach it so that many can become
the righteousness of God. We hold the key to their freedom and hope.

Now going back to our earlier scripture, you will notice that it says in the first part, ‘’ the
fruit of the righteous is the tree of life’’. You must understand that the quality of the fruit
determines the fruitfulness of something. In this passage the quality of the fruit is speaking
of the fruitfulness of the righteous man; his fruit is a tree of life. The righteous man is made
a tree of life. He is the one who goes to preach the gospel and makes others come into the
state of being righteous. They don’t stop producing other righteous people not condemned
before God. It is a continuous cycle that they produce because they are a tree of life. The life
of God in them does not cease because they are productive and continuously produce one
after another. This is what makes a soul winner to continuously flourish and bear lasting
fruit. If you can continuously flourish and bear lasting fruits as a soul winner surely the Lord
will have concern over everything that concern your day to day life. If you are fruitful in
spiritual thing He will make sure you are fruitful in your career, in your finances, family,
business and health because he needs you to continue preaching the gospel so you can
bring more into the kingdom and make more righteous people.
10. INCREASE OF ANOINTING, ASSIGNMENT AND FAVOUR
Every believer has been anointed to preach the good news. This calling is not for a select
few but it is for all believers for we have been given the ministry of reconciliation by God.
We have no excuse for not doing our ambassadorial role in the kingdom.
When a man becomes active in this role which he is already anointed for as one who
reconciles men back to God; he begins to grow more and much grace is supplied to him. The
more he exercises his call in this, the more he is trusted with more souls. By this the man
increases in his assignment and his capacity [anointing] to function in this, also increases
tremendously. If he was able to win one or two he now finds he has boldness to take more.
You will find out that such a person grows from personal evangelism to doing big number
evangelism [crusades]. There are many who started small and then grew to having many
members at one time. Surely the Lord increases such hearts and cause them to have favour
with people.
11. THERE IS A REWARD OF THE VICTOR’S CROWN

7. OUTCOMES

8. THE REWARD [BENEFITS] OF SOUL WINNING AND EVANGELISM IN THE CHURCH

1. THE GREAT JOY MEANING AND SENSE OF PURPOSE AND REVITALISES THE CHURCH
SPIRITUALLY
The greatest achievement in a Christian’s life and the most rewarding assignment to be
involved in as far as God is concerned is to serve in the area of soul winning. Soul winning is
important to three
1. The Lord our Saviour
2. The soul that was lost and won
3. The soul winner
Our Lord Jesus came for souls and it is a must that they are won to Him so that His death
and resurrection should serve its purpose fully. Secondly the soul that was lost when won to
the Lord finds a family, and it is welcomed into the family of God. Without salvation he is a
homeless man, he is an alien from the commonwealth of Israel and a stranger from the
promises. [Ephesians 2:12 a]. every soul that is lost is helpless and in need of help. He
cannot help himself and no man can help him unless he turn to God. The unsaved man is in
a helpless situation, his only help is in the Lord and his only help is in the Lord and he has to
receive that help from the Lord. Apart from being helpless the unsaved man is hopeless
passing in this world headed for destruction. It is only when he finds the saviour that his
hope is restored. Without being saved they have no hope and without God in the world.

[EPHESIANS 2:12 b]
Now imagine if we were asked to save such people how much joy would it bring to us.
Imagine if the church was used to save such people how much joy would it bring to the
church knowing we have been agents of salvation to these people and we have brought
help and hope in their lives. Some of them would be people we knew from the streets,
from the city who were known for the wrong reasons and suddenly they are saved and are
in the house of God as part of the family.
Apart from the joy that we have found as soul winners there is also joy in the one that has
been saved. All the helplessness, hopelessness, and the meaninglessness living goes away
and replaced with the very life of God, a life of hope and peace. There is a great joy in the
saved as we see from the story of the Ethiopian Eunuch [Acts 8:39] when he went his way
rejoicing and so too is the Lord joyful to see the salvation of His people. The newly saved
person enjoys
1. The joy of salvation [Psalm 51:12]
2. The joy of reconciliation [Colossian 1:21]
3. The joy of eternal life [John 5:24]
4. The joy of anticipation [1 Peter 1:3]
The church enjoys

 And being brought on their way by the church, they passed through Phenice and
Samaria declaring the conversion of the Gentiles: and they caused great joy into all
the brethren
Acts
15:3
 There was a great joy in the church when the testimony of the saved gentiles was
shared. This kind of joy has effect on the church is that it revitalises the church and a
great desire for soul winning is birthed or there is increase of desire.

2. IT BRINGS CHURCH GROWTH

And the word increased; and the number of disciples multiplied in Jerusalem greatly and a
great company of the priests were obedient to the faith.
The apostles appointed men full of the spirit, honest and with a good report to take care of
other work like serving the tables so that they [Apostles] should have more time to dedicate
themselves to prayer and to the ministry of the word. They put themselves in a position that
they were not going to be distracted from the preaching of the gospel. And as they did that
the scripture records that the disciples [new converts] multiplied in Jerusalem and that
event the priests a great company of them became part of the believers.
You cannot grow the church without effective evangelism and soul winning. It is a way that
the Lord has ordained for the increase of the kingdom. if you under estimate the power and
impact of evangelism you will also under estimate its power to grow you as a church.
A church must be taught and grown in such a way that everyone understands the
significance of evangelism. The church needs to train its people and grow the passion for
souls in them. A church that is passionate about evangelism and soul winning will never stop
growing its membership. Evangelism and soul winning increases the number of disciples and
not bench warmers. Whoever was won from soul winning also takes up the same passion to
go out and win souls because he understands without soul winning he couldn’t have been
saved and be part of the church.
You should not be a church that saves money by stashing it away in an account and use for
unrelated programs to soul winning because that’s the priority of the church. Kingdom
money is not for the extension of the kingdom of God. If you set that priority right God will
always make a way for the church because you have set your hearts on what is of
importance and a priority to Him. He proved that it was a priority to Him by investing the life
of His only begotten son for our salvation. Invest as a church where it matters and you will
see the increase of God. The early church believers understood this truth. They went and
sold their possession and brought the money at the feet of the Apostles for the purpose of
kingdom extension.
The church will grow in the following areas
1. Growth in membership [numerical growth]
2. Growth in resources [The added numbers] when well taught can be a source of
supply of resources needed for ministry like cars, money and other things required in
the church.
3. Spiritual growth: The word is increased and the number of disciples multiplied.

4. IT BRING DIVERSE PEOPLE IN THE CHURCH

Evangelism brings a diverse people in the church

1. Diverse Social Status/Demographics
Social status relates to the level of social value a person is considered to possess.
More specifically it refers to the relative of level of respect, honour assumed
competence and the deference accorded to people, groups and organisations in a
society. Status is based in widely shared beliefs about who members of a society
think holds comparatively more or less social value, in other words, who they believe
is better in terms of competence or moral traits. Status is determined by the
possession of various characteristics culturally believed to indicate superiority or
inferiority. In short social status refers to the honour or prestige attached to one’s
position in society. One can earn such status by their own achievement.
These classifications have been there way back even in the bible times. We have a picture of
this class thing in Acts 6. There was a murmuring of the Grecians against the Hebrews
because their widows were being neglected in the daily distribution of food. The Grecians
were the Hellenistic Jews in the church and probably attended Greek speaking synagogues
while the Hebrews were the Hebraic Christians which attended synagogues in which
Aramaic was used. Paul in some places called himself a Hebrew of Hebrews [Philippians3:5]
and classed himself among the Hebraioi [2 Corinthians 11:22]. But he fluent in Asia Minor. In
that sense, Paul was Hellenist who spoke Aramaic like a native. So Paul was considered born
in diaspora and came back to Jerusalem. This created a group of natives and the diasporas
and it is noted that the diasporas were looked upon with a certain dislike and suspicion. So
you will find that these social statuses and classifications exist on there but also in the
church.
People look at each other and even respect others because of what they have achieved
socially. This kind of looking at people based on their status is considered not right in the
church. Even in scripture it is not encouraged to look at the people and treat people by
social status and classification. But in reality that’s what we find in the church, people who
have made names for themselves through their achievements, financially, intellectually,
position. And so people sometimes are treated on the basis of their social standing.
In Luke 7:1-10 there is a story of a gentile believer a centurion who had his servant sick.
When the centurion heard of Jesus he sent some elders of the Jews beseeching Jesus that
He would come and heal his servant. And when the elders had come they besought Jesus
instantly saying that the centurion was worthy to be done this for he loved the Jewish
nation and had built a synagogue for them.
This is how this man was treated with honour. He had built a social status and was
successful in his work. He managed to build a social status and was successful at his work.
He managed to build the Synagogue because he had the resources to do so. So you can see
that evangelism helps to bring in the church people of different social standing. In Samaria
through evangelism Phillip managed to win over the whole city to the Lord. People of
different social status and standing became part of the church. Phillip led by the spirit
further went on to win to the Lord the Ethiopian eunuch. Paul in Paphos managed to win
over the governor of the place as they went to preach the gospel. Evangelism brings a
diverse harvest some prominent people in society and they are beneficial to the church that
they can use their influence to reach others of the same status. Remember God wants them
all that none should perish. He wants those with names and those without that both can be
won to the kingdom.
4. IT BRINGS DIVESITY OF GIFTS, TALENT AND SKILLS
Evangelism helps the church to grow its membership. As the membership grows there are
many gifted people in different areas that are added to the church. Apart from the gifted
people there are also talented people that joined the church. The church also receives those
that are skilled or trained in a particular field.
The gifted men and women in the following areas will be added to the church and used in
the church
1. Leadership
2. Exhorters: encouragers
3. Service: those that take the commands of others
4. Mercy: those that are compassionate and help the afflicted
both in the church and outside the church.
5. Teachers: those that impact instruction. They might not be
teachers as in the fire fold ministry but can be teachers in
Sunday school, membership classes, baptism classes.
The talented men and women in the following areas will be added to the church and their
talents will be beneficial for the church
1. Musicians: Singers, drummers, keyboardists, guitarists
2. Dancers
3. Poets
4. Actors/actressess
The skilled men and women in the following areas will be added to the church and their
skills will be of importance to the church
1. Media experts
2. Graphic designers
3. Videographers
4. Editors
5. Accountants
6. Marketers
7. Medical Practitioners
8. Enterprneurers
9. Administrators
When the church experiences growth and the Lord adds such gifted men and women, it
means God has a divine purpose for the church in reaching out to more.
5. THE DIVERSITY OF PEOPLE AND THE GIFTS THE CHURCH ATTRACTS, BUILDS
CAPACITY FOR TAKEOVER
The church can only have influence and impact when it is able to attract men and
women who can represent it in the important spaces and places of authority. When the
church attracts diverse kind of people and gifts it builds capacity for takeover. You will
find that there is manifestation of light in every place of authority and significance.
The church cannot be effective and be a voice if it doesn’t position men and women in
the influential positions. Remember God speaks and acts through the church. We must
invade the system of control
1. Powers of authority.
One of the very important system of control is the power of authority. This are the
state/political leadership powers. It is very difficult to influence changes in a nation
where you have so many people that are ignorant of what happens in the corridors
of power. God knew that Israel for four hundred years would be a foreign land and
he made sure he sent an envoy in advance for the sake of Israel. Israel needed to be
favoured so that their growth and expansion was a possibility. God sent Joseph well
ahead of them that he could rise to the position of prominence and be used to fulfill
God’s purpose with regard Israel, God was not going to use the servant from the
house of Potiphar but the Prime Minister in Pharaohs kingdom. The servant at
Potiphar’s house though anointed could not have had influence in Pharaohs
kingdom, so God had to elevate Joseph to be the ruler of Egypt. And when need
arose Israel benefitted from Josephs position in Egypt.
Esther went to the palace and became Queen at a critical time, when Haman was
plotting the destruction of the household of God, Queen Esther’s presence at the
highest place of authority was beneficial and preserved the children of God.
It happened another time when Israel was in exile the Lord raised Daniel and his
fellows, Shadrack, Mischack and Abednego. They were raised to position of
prominence for a reason.
We can’t change the legislature and the laws made there if we can’t send the men
and the women that are the light of this world, the salt of the earth. The same
applies with the Judiciary, we need to send their honest, trustful, and impartial and
not corrupt men and women. The executive which comprises the President and his
cabinet must be men and women full of the spirit and we can only find such in the
house of the Lord.
2. ECONOMICS, EDUCATION, BUSINESS, INVESTMENT MEDIA.
The church must empower its people in these other systems of control. The church must
have people that actively participate in economic activities, developed top and ethical
business people and executives, top investors, educators, top learning institutions, media
and any other means of control. These have power of influence over society and when in
the right hands they can influence society in the right direction.
6. PRESERVATION FROM BREAK UPS AND SPLITS
Evangelism and soul winning helps to prevent break ups and splits in the churches simply
because it brings many people in the church. When the numbers are many there is a lot of
work to do and many need to get involved.
The many numbers will increase numbers of home churches, home cells, branches in
location, suburbs, and in a nation. Not only will there be many branches but many ministries
will come out as the results of the needs that comes in big numbers. This makes it possible
to have as many people to be in active ministry. In many places where they experience
break ups and splits you will find that it comes as a result of different interested people
trying to have control over the small number of members available.
7. THE AVAILABILITY TO GROW AND ENTEND THE KINGDOM
Evangelism helps to grow the church in terms of numbers, resources and abilities. This
allows the church to grow and develop capacity to extend its vision/mission in other places
outside its borders of existence. There are many churches that started in a single nation but
as time went by they grew and raised many ministers with the resources they were able to
plant churches in other nations, growing their boundaries and extending their kingdom
mandate. You can never overlook the importance of evangelism for it makes you able to
grow the vision and reach of the church.
8. INCREASE IN SOUL WINNERS
John 1:35-53
John had two of his disciples who followed Jesus and became his disciples. One of the two
was Andrew who went on to win his brother Peter. Jesus then won Philip and Philip went on
to win Nathaniel and it went on like that till the number of disciple grew. They had the
twelve, the seventy and the one hundred and twenty. The one hundred twenty grew to
three thousand. They met in their homes and won many others and the number rose to five
thousand. The soul winners were making sure whosoever was won was also made to be a
soul winner. As a result the number kept on growing from one city to other cities and from
one nation to the many nations.
In Acts 16:25-34 Paul and Silas won the jailor to the Lord and the jailor together with his
family were won to the Lord and the number kept on growing. We believe from that one
man to the family, many other families were ministered to. It also happened with Peter
when he went to Cornelius’s house not only was Cornelius saved but his family and others in
the vicinity were born again and the spirit of the Lord came upon them.
If you want to grow the number of soul winners in the church embark on evangelism and
soul winning. Those won wil not sit down they will also go out to testify of the goodness and
mercies of God.
9. CAPACITY TO BUILD THE SPIRIT OF SOUL WINNING AND THOSE WHO PARTICIPATE
IN KINGDOM ASSILEMENT
When you engage in evangelism and soul winning you encourage and impact the soul
winning spirit in many. People see the results of soul winning and it encourages them to
want to participate. As long as the results of soul winning are seen in the church many will
be made soul winners.
When the church grows through other ways than that of evangelism and soul winning it
becomes difficult to make many soul winners because they never participated in the actions
that brought many to the Lord.
10. WHAT DOES SOUL WINNING DO TO THE LORD
8. CHARACTERISTICS OF A SOUL WINNER
1. PRAYER A LIFESTYLE
Prayer is a lifestyle for every effective soul winner. Prayer is talking to God and there is a lot
of benefits in talking to God. Jesus was a great soul winner because He mastered this
lifestyle of being in solitary places seeking the face of the father. He knew that without
prayer He was unable to do the will of the father.
1) Prayer life developed on relationship basis
An effective and sustainable prayer life is one that is built and based on relationship and
fellowship with God. These kind of prayers are not mechanical. Mechanical prayers are
those done to fulfil a religious custom. They are dry and not intimate prayers. People
memorise what to say and as long as they say that even without a connection they are
unconcerned.
If a man has to be a soul winner he has to have a good relationship with the lover of souls;
God himself He is the one that makes you relate with Him and always have fellowship in Him
you begin to partake of His heart and love for souls. You are not forced to go out and win
souls because you understand that the one you relate with and are intimate with loves
souls. His love is shed abroad in your heart by the Holy Ghost which is given to us.
Prayer will not be a difficult thing to one that is intimate with the Lord. It will come out and
flow out of them easily with assurance that He hears you.
2) Prayer helps you gain an understanding of Gods loving nature and the same is
imparted to you
The love of God is expressed felt and experienced each time you engage in prayer. Prayer is
like talking with a loved one. Every person in love always went to find time to talk to their
loved one and everytime you do that your love for the loved one grows. As you grow in love
with God you also grow in love with God you also grow in love with what He loves. (ref 1
John 4:8)
3) Prayer energises you
Prayer is what charges every believer. If you are going to be strong spiritually you will need
to be a man and a woman of prayer. Prayer takes away fear and gives you boldness. Prayer
gives you strength to overcome temptation and be focused on God. You can only become an
effective soul winner when you have boldness and when you overcome any temptation that
would make you weak in your spiritual life and pursuits. (ref Matthew 26:41)
4) Prayer align your will with Gods will
The purpose of prayer is not for us to dictate to him our wants but it’s a platform for an
audience with Him so that He can reveal His will and purpose over our lives. In that way we
don’t become selfish people who just want to have their way in prayer. In prayer the Lord
redirects our plans and puts in order things that are not. He make us see things from His
eyes and helps us to have our priorities eight. It is here where we learn how souls are
important to Him.
In the garden of gethsemane Jesus prayed to the father when that hour of sufferings had
come. He prayed that if it was possible that cup should pass Him by. And as He prayed on He
prayed the will of the father to have prominence over His. And the will of the father
concerning redemption of man was fulfilled.
5) Prayer is partnering with the Holy Spirit
When you pray you are led of the spirit especially when you pray in tongues. Your mind is
unfruitful but your spirit prays in line with the purpose of God. That way you pray the will of
the father and the Holy Ghost makes known the will of the father to you and makes you
partner with Him in doing the work of God. You are never alone, He is present leading and
guiding you.
2. GODLY CHARACTER
CHARACTER DEVELOPED BY SEEING AND KNOWING GOD
An effective soul winner has to have a Godly character if men and women will hear and
receive his message you cannot be the opposite of what you preach and expect to have
impact on people. They have to see God in you as you proclaim the word.
All Godly character is demonstrated in the life of Lord Jesus. We see Godly characteristics in
scriptures but that life is made manifest in Christ Jesus. If you are to show Godly character
the life of Christ that you possess will help manifest that will help manifest that life. You
learn from Him and you do as you learn. Godly character is not built overnight, you develop
that character and as a person as you are the one that plays a major role. You have to
exercise yourself toward godliness. You play a part of resisting and refusing evil influences
and impulses focusing on Christ and His work in you.
As a soul winner you must cultivate habits that programme you positively for success and
avoid all habits that programme you negatively and set you up for failure. Godly character is
developed through training up oneself just like parents are encouraged to train up a child in
the way he should go and when he is old he will not depart from it. (proverbs 22:6)
A soul winner must train himself in the way he should go and that way should be the way of
Lord. The people you minister to must see characters in you that relate to the gospel that
you preach.
Pray and ask the Lord and He will show you by His spirit what you ought to get rid of in your
life so that your message is accepted.
3. LIVING THE WORD YOU CAN ONLY GIVE WHAT YOU ARE AND WHAT YOU HAVE
Every soul winner must live the word they preach and live in God is word and instruction.
We are not in the business of making speeches or using enticing words that sound in the
ears of the hearers, we are instruments of God to change eternal destinies. Our mission as
soul winners as we preach the gospel is supernatural. The commission comes from God; its
not of our own making. The word of the Lord must empower us to live in His ways and to
preach the message that comes out of that which ourselves have lived and demonstrated
you cannot preach to another what you are not. They will be no backing of the spirit. You
must preach what has built you and left a mark in you. That’s what has capacity to change
lives. You can only give that which you have and are in the spirit. Jesus said the words that I
speak to you are spirit and life, that’s why those words were able to change men. They must
be spirit filled words carrying life in them.
This is why it is important for a soul winner to b one who lives the word if he/ she is going to
have great impact and see the lives of many change for the better. Remember we are
agents of change and God is depending on us for the many souls that are in darkness. We
are the light they need to see the way.
4. PASSION FOR SOULS
Everyone who was saved by the cross and the child of God must be a soul winner and
passionate about it. The heart of the father must be in you; that heart that loves souls. It
must motivate and move you to taking the gospel to the lost. Soul winning is a divine
responsibility for ever believer for he has been made a custodian of the gospel and as such it
is required of you to proclaim the gospel in all the world.
The love for souls and the plight of the unsaved should be in us and always make us to take
the move to reach out to them with a message of love that has power to save them. The
more you publish this gospel is the more you’ll see soul saved. And the more souls are saved
and you hear testimonies of what they have been delivered from the more you are
propelled to continue in soul winning for there is the increase of the passion and the zeal to
minister.
Every soul winner must have that passion; the drive and motivation to do that which pleases
the father the most. A soul winner is one who has love for people and doesn’t want them to
perish.

5. HUMILITY AN IMPORTANT VIRTUE

Humility means to be modest or lowly of mind. A humble person doesn’t consider himself
highly of himself than others. He puts others above and allows himself to be of no repute.
This is the secret to soul winning. You always put others first and soul winning becomes easy
for you. You don’t consider situations, conditions or places you’re going to, your first
consideration is the soul that you’re going to minister to. Jesus went into places where he
was rejected and stoned. When the disciples asked him to call the fire from heaven to burn
them, He didn’t respond in that way for this was the very reason that he came; to save such
people.

When they made fun of Him and spoke insults as He was led to Calvary and eve as He was
on the cross, He still said, “Father forgive for they know not what they say.” The same
humility was in Stephen, he even prayed to God to forgive those that were stoning him.
In soul winning we meet a lot of challenges, in that the very people you’re taking the gospel
of salvation to, can be the very people to make fun of you, even waiting to crucify you. It
takes a humble heart to minister to such and to think of going back to the people that
rejected you and your message.

6. TEACHABLE

Who so loveth instruction loveth knowledge: but he that hateth the reproof is brutish.
Proverbs 12:1

One of the things that make people stop progressing in life is when they come to a place of
thinking they know it all and have it all. As long as the man is living he needs to be learning
on a continuous basis so that he can acquire and have what it takes to be successful in life.
You have to be one that loves instruction because one who loves instruction love
knowledge. God’s people perish for lack of knowledge if a man doesn’t want to stop
progressing in his spiritual growth, his relationship with God and in life he must be a lover of
instruction. In instruction he gets knowledge which prevents him from making mistakes of
life. Instruction according to the Hebrew word means to be disciplined; to be corrected and
to receive doctrine. You are disciplined, corrected and given doctrine through teachings. In
other words a man willing to receive knowledge must be someone teachable. If a man
doesn’t have a teachable spirit, hates reproof and makes him brutish which means he ends
up being arrogant. The TPT version puts it well when it says, “to learn the truth you must
long to be teachable, or you can despise corruption and remain arrogant.” Ministry is not for
the arrogant and so too is soul winning. You have to have a teachable spirit so that you
continue to learn and effective in your soul winning.
A soul winner must have a willing heart because disciples are those willing to be taught and
eager to learn more. As a disciple you are also responsible for disciplining others. How can
you then want to teach others when you personally don’t want to be taught?
A teachable heart starts with the acknowledgement that we do not know everything.
If we keep an open mind, we can learn a lot from the people that God has given to us.
The consequences of disregarding being taught is revealed in proverbs 13: 18. It says,
“Poverty and shame shall be to him that refuseth instruction, but he that regardeth reproof
shall be honoured.”
Sometimes we like to blame God when things are not working or not getting the results that
accompanies what we are doing. There are benefits or rewards that follow a soul winner but
we might not be experiencing them simply because we have an unteachable spirit and it
becomes our hindrance to progress and receiving the blessings and reward that follow a
soul winner. Refusing to learn from others is pride and God does not reward the proud.
As a soul winner don’t stop receiving instruction from others, continue learning so that you
can become the best and effective in your ministry. You’ll see how the Lord will prove
himself faithful to those that do His will.
Take time to listen to others as they narrate their stories where possible. It demonstrates
genuine interest and grows you heart to hear more and learn from others.

7. SUBMISSIVE

Humility and being submissive walk hand in hand. True humility is submitting to the
Lordship and Leadership of God’s word. Humility is the quality of a recreated human
spirit that attracts divine favour and promotion in life. It is an inner ability which enables
man to respond with absolute submissiveness to first the Lordship of Jesus Christ and
then to the Leadership or authority above you.
Likewise ye younger, submit yourselves into the elder. Yea, all of you subject one to
another, and be clothed with humility: For God resisteth the proud and giveth grace to
the humble
1 PETER 5:5-6
To submit or to be submissive to someone means to be subordinate, to be subject and
to be under someone. Jesus demonstrated submission in His earthly ministry as in
Philippians 2:8-9, and being found in fashion as a man He humbled Himself, and became
obedient unto death on the cross. Wherefore God also has highly exalted Him and given
Him a name which is above every name.

Jesus is an example of the true submission who being in the form of God thought it not
robbery to be equal with God. But He made Himself of no reputation and took upon
Himself of no reputation and took upon Himself a form of a servant. If the one who
being in the form of God humbled Himself and made Himself submit to the father what
more with us? We must first submit to him as our Lord if you are under another man
authority here, we must also submit to them as peter say the younger submit to the
elder. It may not be in age but authority.

A submissive person recognizes authority. This is the characteristic of a soul winner. A

soul winner must always recognize authority in order to be effective in his ministry.
Jesus is a good example of a soul winner. He was submissive to the father and was able
to bring salvation to us. A soul winner must be the same. He must be under authority
and be led on how to go about his soul winning.
8. GODLY CONDUCT AND SPEECH

For we are His workmanship created in Christ Jesus unto good works which God has before
ordained that we should work in them.

Ephesians 2:10

As soul winners we must always conduct ourselves in a Godly manner that is pleasing before
Him and that is the correct representation of Him before all men and even those we are
trying to win over. That which we are on the inside must reflect outside also. In the above
scripture we are made to understand how we were created.

We are not of our own making, we are His workmanship. We are a product of Him, a fabric
that has come from Him; created in Christ Jesus. We were created each one of us by Christ
Jesus or another way to put it is that when God was making us; He was making us based on
the picture of Jesus Christ that we can be exactly like Him in our conduct and work ordained
for us. Jesus Christ exhibits good works of God and we have also been made to showcase
the same. In 1 Peter 1:15 it says, “but as he which hath called you is holy, so be you holy in
all manner of conversation.” He is saying the one that has called us is holy, we must also be
holy in our conduct. We must be what he is and nothing different for we are made from the
same fabric.

In Colossians 4:6 we are encouraged to have our speech always with grace, seasoned with
salt that we may know how to answer every man. What comes out of us must be seasoned
with salt, something that brings good taste and words full of grace, edifying the hearers.

9. SPIRIT FILLED AND SPIRIT LED

And be not drunk with wine, wherein is excess; but be filled with the Spirit (Ephesians 5:18).

Our opening verse gives us the secret to living the transcendent life: it’s being filled with the
Spirit. This isn’t an option for you as a Christian, if you’re going to be effective in your
Christian walk. You must be filled with the Spirit always. You might ask, “Is that really
possible? Can we always be perpetually ‘high’ on the Holy Ghost?”
Emphatically yes! The Word says we can, and shows us how in the ensuing verses 19-21 of
our opening scripture. It reads, “Speaking to yourselves in psalms and hymns and spiritual
songs, singing and making melody in your heart to the Lord; Giving thanks always for all
things unto God and the Father in the name of our Lord Jesus Christ; Submitting yourselves
one to another in the fear of God.”

Every day, practise being filled with the Spirit. Before you leave home, get full of the Holy
Ghost! Before you lead in worship, before you go out for evangelism, before you go to work,
be filled with the Spirit. When you’re full of the Spirit, the words that come out of you aren’t
your words but God’s. Therefore, everything you say will come forth with power and surely
come to pass.

When you’re full of the Holy Ghost, no matter what happens to you or around you, you’re
unflustered. Like Paul, you’d say, “None of these things move me.” This is life beyond the
ordinary plane of perception; life beyond the comprehension and ability of the human mind;
life beyond this world!

This super life is what Jesus brought to us. He said, “The thief comes only in order to steal
and kill and destroy. I came that they may have and enjoy life, and have it in abundance (to
the full, till it overflows)” (John 10:10 AMPC). You’re not an ordinary person. Many
Christians live ordinary lives, because they don’t get themselves filled with the Spirit often. If
you’re continually filled with the Spirit, your life will be an unending stream of the
supernatural.

We’ve been called into a life of unending success. The secret is being filled with the Spirit:
You’d be enabled supernaturally to see things at a higher plane and live the higher life in
Christ.

Jude 1:20 But ye, beloved, building up yourselves on your most holy faith, praying in the
Holy Ghost,
Luke 4:1 And Jesus being full of the Holy Ghost returned from Jordan, and was led by the
Spirit into the wilderness,

“And be not drunk with wine, wherein is excess; but be filled with the Spirit:” (Ephesians
5:18)

1. Speak God’s Word.

2. Be Filled with the Spirit.

“You can change things with your words, the power to overthrow evil is in your words.

On the second point, “be loaded with the Holy Ghost!” Young people no longer have to
gravitate towards evil as a source of power, knowing that the greatest source of power in all
of the world, the Holy Ghost, can now reside in them by Christ Jesus.
“Wherefore I put thee in remembrance that thou stir up the gift of God, which is in thee by
the putting on of my hands. For God hath not given us the spirit of fear; but of power, and of
love, and of a sound mind.”
2 Timothy 1:6-7

“That is why you are reminded to stir up (rekindle the embers of, fan the flame of, and keep
burning) the [gracious] gift of God, [the inner fire] that is in you by means of the laying on of
my hands [with those of the elders at your ordination]. For God did not give us a spirit of
timidity (of cowardice, of craven and cringing and fawning fear), but [He has given us a
spirit] of power and of love and of calm and well-balanced mind and discipline and self-
control.”
2 Timothy 1:6-7 AMPC

“It is the spirit that quickeneth; the flesh profiteth nothing: the words that I speak unto you,
they are spirit, and they are life.”
John 6:63

Having the Holy word in your heart and soul, according to the man of God, is the most
crucial aspect of being born again. You cannot be a true Christian with every single word
from the bible ingrained into your spirit. Having the Holy Word in your body and soul is the
key to living life in God’s light.

SPIRIT-RULED AND SPIRIT-CONTROLLED

This teaches a very important lesson about the positioning of the Holy word. “When the
Word is in you, you can’t drop it; it’s your life. Every Christian wants, and should live the life
that’s Spirit-ruled and Spirit-controlled; the life that’s filled with God. That’s what
Christianity is: Christ alive and at work in you, such that you’re always under the sway and
regulation of the Spirit; not such things as anger, wrath and malice.”

BEWARE OF THE ANGER

How can one contain the anger that they have? How does one control the feelings and
emotions and not allow it to control you? These are huge questions to answer. Like the
woman who wants to harm someone with a Bible, we often let our feelings get the better of
us. “Be Spirit-ruled. It makes no difference how angry you are; hold yourself in; it’s called in
2 Peter 1:6 “egkrateia” (Greek). The Bible says, “Be ye angry, and sin not…” (Ephesians 4:26).
In other words, “Manage your anger.” You can be tempted to be angry, tempted to act in a
way that’s inappropriate for a Christian, but if you walk in the spirit, you’ll not fulfil the lust
of the flesh.” A soul winner need not live and walk in anger. He has to manifest the life of
Christ.
WALK IN THE LIGHT

To walk in God’s light is not an easy feat. To do so one must walk in love. It’s by walking in
the Word of God; walking in the light of God’s Word. You’re in Christ now”. Understanding
that you are with Christ can allow you to be “Spirit- ruled”.

There’s no Christianity without the Holy Spirit. Yielding yourself to be led and controlled by
the Spirit is your guarantee of a life of limitless potentials, and endless possibilities. Learn in
this course and teaching how you can maximize your potentials in life and be all that God
created you to be, as you allow the Holy Spirit led life to be manifested.
Now when they had gone through Phrygia and the region of Galatia, they were forbidden by
the Holy Spirit to preach the word in Asia. After they had come to Mysia, they tried to go
into Bithynia, but the Spirit did not permit them. Acts 16:6–7

The more areas of your life you involve the Lord in, the more you can experience His
leading. You can even ask the Lord to guide you in something as seemingly natural as your
travel itinerary. In fact, read the passage above. The apostle Paul allowed the Holy Spirit to
lead them at every step.

We see from those Scriptures that closed doors are not necessarily negative, and could be
signs of God's protection over our lives. The challenge for some of us is that we are so adept
at planning and scheduling our busy lives that many times, we don't make room for the Lord
to intervene and to guide us to be at the right place at the right time. Let's not put our trust
in our intelligence and planning, but in His wisdom, leading, and counsel. There is a proverb
that says, "A man's heart plans his way, but the Lord directs his steps" (Prov. 16:9). Even as
we plan, your prayer should always be that you will always remember to commit all your
ways to the Lord, and allow Him to direct your steps. Even in soul winning you have to be
led where and to who you are you supposed to proclaim the gospel to.

Being led by the Spirit does not have to be something complicated. When you walk close to
the Lord and have a close relationship with Him, He can lead you in supernaturally natural
ways. The Lord wants to lead your life that even the people around you and those you are
sent to can know that you are sent of God. It becomes easy to win souls with if you manifest
a God kind of life led of the Spirit.
