    What is History?

    1. Discuss kasaysayan (or history) from the point of view of public historian Ambeth
    Ocampo.
    According to Ambeth Ocampo history is not a mere collection of dates and
    names. History is then a lot of other things; signifying systems, interpretive schemes,
    contending narratives, and expressive energies which subtend the very possibility of social
    life. This means history is a part of our life because it shows on how our country change
    despite the wars that our heroes fought with. It is the story of our ancestors so it doesn’t mean
    that history is just a past event that we need to forget but to maintain.
    2. Discuss his view on saysay vis-à-vis in the study of history.
    Based on Ocampo’s understanding “saysay” (meaning) is from the word
    “kasaysayan” (history) this means that a meaningful history always has a grateful outcome.

    TO STUDY OR NOT TO STUDY HISTORY?

    History are the study of past events of our country like wars, revolutions and other events
    that happened. Political, social, economic, scientific, technological, medical, cultural,
    intellectual, religious and military developments are all part of history. Also your own story
    in the past is also part of history.
    Studying history is a best way to maintain it in our mind that because of history is the
    reason why we lived until now. Through history we can learn how past societies, politics,
    economics, technologies, cultures, religions and militaries on how they changed or built.
    With these we can developed a new knowledge of our history other than hearing a story from
    our grandparents. It enables us to understand more the world we lived in. Understanding our
    history will nurture and improve our humanity in the future. History gives us moral lesson, if
    we continue to study history we can change the mistake that we did in the past so that we
    cannot bear it in the future.
    There are historical stories that gives an inspiration like the stories about wars in the past
    where because of that we achieved our freedom. We can get a huge amount of motivation in
    those stories that can light up our imaginations and can helps us to improve our skills like our
    intellectual pursuit. Also because of history it connects us together, through sharing
    information’s to other we can make a group of friends in our country or to other countries.
