2 PV SYSTEM STANDARDS & SPECIFICATIONS

This section describes the main components of the PV plant that have been selected by Client for
plant design configuration in preparing this report. The main components are solar PV modules,
inverters, mounting structure, junction boxes, and monitoring and data acquisition system.
TIRUPATI SOLAR ENERGY AND SERVICES has reviewed the technical specifications of all these
components and considers them suitable for the given site conditions.

▪ Mechanical auxiliary systems including erection
diagrams.
▪ All drawings and documents required for engineering
of all facilities and required to seek applicable
statuary clearances.
▪ As per Site requirements.
Grid-tied PV Inverter

A grid-tied PV inverter is the brain of the PV system,

which: Extracts the maximum DC power from the PV
modules using a maximum power point tracking
(MPPT) mechanism;

- Converts the DC power into AC power;

- Synchronizes the output AC power with the
phase and voltage levels of the grid in order to
push power back into the grid;
▪ Maximum Efficiency: 98%

Certification/ Standard:
- Protection: IEC 62109 Ed. 1.0
- EMC: EN 61000-6-1/2/3/4, EN 61000-3-
2/3/11/12
- IP65 for both outdoor and indoor applications
▪ Warranty: 7 years

Junction Box

▪ DC and AC-side junction boxes are used to connect

equipment such as strings of PV modules in parallel
or inverters in parallel, if needed.
▪ They also house the necessary protection equipment,
if not already present in inverters, such as:
- (+)ve and (–)ve DC terminal fuses from PV
modules
- Surge protection devices (SPD)
- DC disconnection switch
▪ Our junction boxes are made of polycarbonate, which are
rated IP65 for outdoor and indoor use.
Module Mounting Structure

Module mounting structures are used to mount PV modules in place.

Our mounting structures are made of PU Coating mild-steel,
designed to last through the life of the PV system.

There is no drilling or penetration on the RCC roof, so the water-
proofing of the roof remains intact.
▪ Certification/ Standard:
- Mounting structure steel: IS 2062: 1992
- Mounting structure galvanization: IS 4759
Mounting structure is designed to withstand a wind
▪ speed of 150 km/hr.

DC Connector

- MC4 or compatible
- IP67 (or higher) rated for outdoor

Meter

The bi-directional electronic energy meter (net meter) will
be installed for the measurement of import/ export of
energy as per regulations of the Distribution Company.
- Accuracy class of net meter: 0.5s

The unidirectional solar meter will be installed for the
measurement of solar energy generation as per
regulations of the Distribution Company.

In addition to the metering and monitoring
arrangement in inverters, monitoring of voltage,
current and energy will be provided at the low voltage
switchboards. These meters will be digital with an RS
485 port for remote monitoring. They will have
accuracy class 1.0S.

Cable
All the DC and AC cables are designed for outdoor
application with a continuous ambient temperature of
50°C. They are sized for a power loss and a voltage drop
less below 2%.

3 ANNUAL ENERGY YIELD

TIRUPATI SOLAR ENERGY AND SERVICES has predicted the annual energy yields for the
Project using the basic design and indicative layout as described in the previous sections.

Loss Description
THEE types of shading losses are considered in the PV energy yield
Shading model: horizon shading, shading betweenrows of modules
and near shading due to trees and buildings.

The incidence angle loss accounts for losses in radiation penetrating

than perpendicular.

The conversion efficiency of a PV module reduces at low light

intensities.

The characteristics of a PV moduleare determined at temperature

conditions of 25˚C. For every ˚C temperature rise above this, module
Module temperature
efficiency reduces according
temperature coefficient.

Soiling Losses due to dust and bird droppings; soiling themodule

Most PV modules do not match exactly the manufacturer’s nominal

Module quality specifications. Modules are sold with a nominal peak power and a
given tolerance within which the actual power is

Losses due to "mismatch" are related to the fact that the real
Modulemismatch modules in an array do not all rigorously present the same
current/voltage profiles: there is a statistical variation between

Electrical resistance in wires between the power available at the

DC wiring resistance
modules and at the terminals of the array gives rise to losses (I²R).

Inverters convert from DC into AC with a certain specified maximum

Inverter performance efficiency. Depending on the inverter load, they will not always
operate at maximum efficiency.

The inverters are constantly seeking themaximum power point

MPP tracking (MPP) of the array by shifting inverter voltage to the maximum
power point voltage. Different inverters do this with varying

AC losses This includes transformer performance (MV/HV) and ohmic

The ability of a PV power plant to export power is dependent on the

Grid availability and availability of the distribution or transmission network. Unless

assumption that the local grid will not be operational for a given

Systems, tracking motors, monitoring equipment and lighting.

Degradation The performance of a PV module decreases with time

Performance Ratio
The quality of a PV power plant may be described by its Performance Ratio (PR). The PR,
usually expressed as a percentage, can be used to compare PV systems independent of size
and solar resource. The PR may be expressed as:

By normalizing with respect to irradiation, the PR quantifies the overall effect of losses on the
rated output and allows a comparison between PV plants.

PROJECT START UP AND FUNCTIONAL REQUIREMENTS

The project start-up and functional requirements shall essentially consist of all the supply,
installation, testing and commissioning required to set up and operate a PV plant. The
following sections discuss important parameters to be considered for a solar PV plant start-
up.

a) Site Preparation

The site preparation shall include all the work as required for installation of a utility scale solar
PV plant as per international practices. This shall essentially include:

• Clearing of weeds, chopping down of small bushes and trees.

• Removing unnecessary obstacles or objects from the roof.
• Checking the roof if there any damage

b) Inter Row Spacing for the PV Mounting Structure

In addition to optimizing the inter-row pitch for minimum shading, adequate inter-row
spacing shall be maintained for cleaning of modules. Although this will depend on the strategy
adopted for module cleaning.
