1 Introduction
Volume Rendering function is the software to visualize 3D tissues and structures and to create 3D
images. Because the desired tissues and structures can be displayed in 3D view, the function
has the feature to facilitate the visual understanding of the tissues and structures.
The following functions are provided as the major functions of the Volume Rendering features.
• 3D Measurement function
By using these functions in combination, the desired Volume Rendering image can be obtained.

2 Overview
The overview of the following functions are described in this section.
• 3D Measurement function
1. Complete visibility
2. Invisibility
3. Partial visibility
The following figure shows how the cube and cylinder can be displayed by setting the pixel
value of the cube to Complete visibility, Invisibility, Partial visibility when observing the 3D data
of the cube with pixel value 5 and cylinder with pixel value 10 in view of the arrow direction.

2.2 Regional Extraction function
Regional Extraction function is the function to extract only the desired region in the tissues and
structure. Two modes are available as Regional Extraction method of Volume Rendering
feature.
• Clipping
• Segmentation
Clipping mode is the function to manually extract the desired region by setting on ROI.
The following figure shows an example where an ROI is set over a part of blood vessel and the
region inside the ROI is extracted. The same function is also available in MIP function of the
standard software.
ROI
(a) An elliptic ROI is set over a part of blood vessel (b) Extraction of blood vessel inside ROI
Segmentation mode is the function to automatically extract the regions that have the same
tissues or structures as those of the point set on the desired tissues or structures.
The following figure shows an example where blood vessel, tissues in circle region and tissues
in rectangular region are segmented.
(a) A point is placed on blood vessel and tissues in (b) Blood vessel and tissues in
circular region to perform segmentation. circular region are extracted.

3DAI Menu
This is used to select the process type of 3D Adaptive Imaging (3DAI) to use.
References
• 3DAI suppresses the background of the input series and smoothes the blood vessels.
• Compared to None, when Sm.Ves or Lg.Ves is selected, more time is required to load the
input series.
• In the input series where 3DAI can be used, matrix size and number of images are
restricted. If the input series exceeds this limitation, 3DAI gets disabled.
• If the system default is used to generate a 3D card, the default 3DAI will be the process set
in System Preferences.

3.3 Series Setting Page
In Volume Rendering process, various parameters can be set to create a series of images.
Such various parameters are set by using the area called Series Setting page.
The Series Setting page can be prepared in multiple pages. For the method to set the multiple
Series Setting page, refer to “3.4 Series Setting Page control” in this document.

On Segmentation Parameters page, the Segmentation process is set and executed.
Two modes are available in Segmentation process.
• Binary Segmentation
This is the simple operation segmentation. This is effective for the case where there
is no similar tissue in the vicinity of the tissues to which Segmentation is to be
applied.
• Advanced Segmentation
If there is similar tissues in the vicinity of the tissues to which Segmentation is to be
applied, the desired Segmentation result may not be obtained. Advanced
Segmentation creates multiple Segmentation results from which an appropriate
Segmentation result can be selected.

the application requires the creation of at least 2 segments, a value of 2 or
greater should be input.

(6) Image Quality Parameters page
Enhanced Quality
Setting this to ON produces the following effects.
• Volume Rendering image in Preview Viewport is displayed in high image
quality.
• When a volume Rendering series is generated, the image are generated in
high quality
• When Volume Rendering mode is selected in Rendering Mode for
Orthogonal Views, Volume Rendering images in COR, SAG and TRS
Viewports are also displayed in high image quality
References
• With Enhanced Quality set to On, response time during performing manual rotate and
image reconstruction time take longer time as compared with the Off case.
• If Enhanced Quality is set to Off, a slight blurring of volume rendered images can
occur. The blurring occurs when generating Volume Rendering images that the
matrix size of the image are same as the matrix size of the input series. To reduce
the blurring, the matrix size of the generated Volume Rendering images does not
correspond to the matrix size of the input series as default.

References
• Since Volume Rendering images displayed on the Control face retain 3D information, 3D
zoom is used to process the 3D information when magnifying and minifying Volume
Rendering images. To distinguish this from the normal magnifying and minifying processes
(2D zoom), the zoom value is displayed in the Viewport in the following format:
1.00 X (3D Zoom: ***X) *** is the 3D zoom value.
• The 3D zoom process can also be performed by holding the middle and right buttons on the
mouse simultaneously and dragging across the image.

4.13 Setting series names
When creating multiple series setting pages, and making series names for each series to be
created for those pages, use Description of the Series Parameters.
Here, an example is given of the method for setting different series names for series created
from series setting page 1 (series 1) and series created from series setting page 2 (series 2).
1. Set the series name for series 1 in Description ① for series setting page 1.
2. Copy series setting page 1, and create series setting page 2.
For details, see “4.12 Creating Multiple Series” .
The series name set in step 1 is copied for the Description of series setting page 2.
3. Click the tag ② for series setting page 2.
Series setting page 2 is displayed.
4. Set the series name for series 2 in Description.
References
• If Description is left blank, the series name displayed on the card’s tag is used.
• Up to 16 characters can be entered for Description.
