5 Tips For Effective Communication
- By HR

Be Present
Being present simply means being aware of what is going on in
the present moment. So often we are in our heads, thinking
about something that happened earlier in the day. Experiment
with simply noticing your thoughts, physical sensations, and
emotional responses without getting caught up in and carried
away with them.

Listen mindfully
When we are talking with someone, our minds often wander to
other places. We may form an opinion about what the other
person is saying, or our thoughts may simply wander to what
we will eat for dinner. Simply listening with kindness and
warmth is a good way to practice mindfulness.

Seek to Understand
Try to notice when you feel compelled to offer advice or your
own experience in your next conversation. A genuine quality
connection with another person creates space for and leads to
more productive discussions and more skillful interaction
navigation. A stronger connection also deepens the
relationship, resulting in more fulfilling and meaningful life
experiences.

Use Active/Reflective Listening

Active/reflective listening is one of the best ways to be present,
attentive, and show another person that we are listening and
want to understand.
Reflective listening is a communication strategy in which the
listener attempts to comprehend what the other person is
thinking and feeling and then conveys this comprehension to
the person.

You can practice this type of listening by following the

guidelines below:

Concentrate on the conversation and try to accept the other

person's point of view without agreeing or disagreeing.
Stick to the other person's specific ideas without deviating
into other topics.
Listen for the emotions hidden behind the other person's
words and reflect those emotions back to them.

Practice Silence
Take a few deep breaths and wait a moment before speaking
the next time you feel compelled to share a suggestion or an
idea. To reflect on them and respond in a considerate, cordial,
and in-the-moment way, it can be helpful to pause for a
moment and take in someone else's thoughts, ideas, and
feelings. Similar to waiting a few hours or a day before replying

'Support Women In IT'

The participation of Indian women in the workforce is at its lowest ebb. Factors
attributing to the fall include, women are inclined to fulfill social obligations and
are forced to ignore their careers to fulfill family expectations. Women are
viewing the tech segment as a segment that offers unmatched growth prospects.
The pandemic emphasized the growing importance of technology as businesses
took to the virtual space. EdTech platforms emerged as enablers that bridged the

Story of an EduBridger

We live in a world where we connect with so many people very frequently, & yet
know very little about them. It was the pandemic, that made us realize that we
need to have the presence of people around us. Unfortunately, that was the
major downfall we all suffered. We downloaded new apps, made new groups,
and played games together online & all in an unsaid attempt of staying in touch
with our people, to talk to them & see them every day, although in the small
rectangle of our phone screens. We saw some unexpected losses & unfinished
goodbyes. The feeling of “I wish I knew this person more” stayed long after those
people left.

But we overcame those dark days when we started visiting our offices. Seeing
them outside those screens gave us a huge sense of relief. And yet, we felt a gap
of those 2 years lost in the virtual meetings. As our daily life started coming back
to normalcy, we again went into our work spirals. Somewhere with our deadlines
to complete the reports to meeting our colleagues only with the task
requirements, we stopped to smell the roses. That is when we realized that our
true asset – our people need to be known better beyond those 8 hours of work!
So, you have this colleague who is excellent in Excel, did you know he started
working as an MIS executive & now has grown to a managerial post? Or this peer
who resolves the issues of our learners, has excellent taste in fashion? Or our
trainers who knew they wanted to get into the education sector because they
simply had the knack for simplifying the concepts to their friends during college
days?

Well, it never occurred before to know what is the background & experience that
your colleagues carry with them. That is why we initiated the concept of “Story on
an EduBridger” – the brainchild of Lovina Anthony; to ensure we cover an L&D
team member every week & understand their journey & the experiences that
shape them into who they are today. Story of an EduBridger helps us connect
with our team members, to unfold the aspects of their life which go beyond our
office duties every day.
