photo to post on Instagram! After all, everyone wants to know who wore
what, where.
With travel blogging on the rise, the pressure and competition is only
increasing for more aesthetically pleasing photos.
The pandemic taught us to not take anything for granted and has made us
realize the importance of meaningful experiences. After being stuck at
home for months, the desire for an escape or quick getaway increased. The
Resort Fashion industry has been expanding rapidly ever since the
pandemic.

RESORT WEAR

Your ticket is booked for a dream vacay & it’s time Although resort wear for women is generally
to pack! You have seen beautiful photos of women associated with swimsuit cover-ups, big straw
looking radiant on their vacations, casually hats, tote bags, maxi dresses and flip-flops, it

Everyone wants the perfect picture from their sometimes brightly coloured and beautiful
holiday, with the most ideal location and a picture tropical patterned tops, shorts, capris, pants,
perfect dress, for the gram, of course. Coastal dresses, skirts, swimwear, nautical
details and more. It may include dressy dresses
This is the answer to a common question: What to for evening wear or casual outfits for day time
wear at a Resort? excursions.
As a general rule, resort style is geared toward Whether you are looking for resort casual for
warmer weather and walks the line between ladies or elegant resort evening attire, no one
comfort and elegance. said you could only use resort wear in Hawaii.
PAGE 04

Resort casual style is what you would wear at any informal

event. It can be similar to what you’d find at breakfast/brunch
or may be the outfits you wear while lounging by the pool or on
the beach, or while grabbing lunch at the beach bar.
Khakis or casual slacks with a polo shirt are the rule of thumb
when it comes to elegant casual day wear for men. If the resort
or cruise is more upscale, your leisure wear need not be more
formal, but perhaps of better design and quality. Ball caps and
sneakers are fine, as long as they stay outdoors.

For resort evening wear, think relaxed and fun, it's

sophisticated without feeling too formal.
PAGE 05

Resort wear is typically lighter-weight than other fashion. You'll often find resort wear
versions of classic pieces, like skirts and blazers, rendered in summery fabrics like linen,
seersucker or cotton. Lightweight knits are practical because they don't wrinkle in your
suitcase.

Accessories help resort wear transition from poolside to party-ready. Oversize statement
necklaces come in handy. A big cashmere wrap is practical for cooler evenings. Flip-flops
are essential for the pool and acceptable for most daytime activities, but a pair of heeled,
strappy sandals will make whatever you're wearing look more dressed up. And if you're
doing a lot of walking, slim sneakers or cute flats will come in handy.

The Resort Fashion industry is yet to incorporate gender fluidity in its
collections. It is now imperative to head towards being gender-less and the
lack there-of is often offensive.
To follow the memo of 'packing light', multi-way clothing could also be the
perfect opportunity. It would save a lot of suitcase space and also add to
sustainability.

“A cruise collection or resort wear sometimes also referred to as holiday

or travel collection is an inter-season or pre-season line of ready-to-wear
clothing produced by a fashion house in addition to the current biannual
seasonal collections: spring/summer and autumn.” Think breezy fabrics,
tropical prints and exotic colours. Good resort wear should ideally be light,
need less care and resist from wrinkling in your suitcase.
It was originally created for more wealthy customers for their cruises and
holidays. As travel was introduced by the spread of railroads in the
nineteenth century, resorts gained momentum. Resorts offered activities
like bowling, boating, billiards, dancing etc. Each activity required its own
attire. There was a need for lighter, freer clothing that allowed the wearer
to be somewhat less formal, aiding movement. The period between the
two world wars was when luxury travel and resort wear really gained
popularity as celebrities and socialites started getting photographed at
places like Cannes and St. Moritz during their holidays.
PAGE 17

Both Chanel and Madame Vionnet set up boutiques in Biarritz – Chanel in 1915 and Vionnet in 1925. One of the first people
credited with creating resort wear prints is Emilio Pucci. In 1949 he opened his first boutique in Capri, Italy. His prints were
colourful, kaleidoscopic and abstract. The prints were an instant hit and became part of resort wear uniform.
Generally, warmer weather aids Resort wear and it walks the line between comfort and elegance. It ordinarily makes use of
breathable fabrics like linen, cotton, silk, poplin, denim etc.
It is customarily believed to comprise beach cover ups, big straw hats and flip flops but it is much more than just that. It can
be both glamorous and casual.
Day time resort wear could include dresses, kaftans, shorts with a t-shirt or polo, khakis, sandals, something easy going yet
stylish. Evenings could be more formal with evening gowns and dinner jackets. Dress shirts paired with formal shoes, for men.
The popularity of resort wear has increased in the recent past with selfie culture and the rise of vacation photos being shared
on social media. Travel blogging has a huge role to play. It has changed the way we travel and also peaked our expectations.
But Resort wear isn’t just adorned at beautiful destinations anymore. It is now also worn at multiple events and occasions.
Over the years, Resort wear itself has become a bit of an escapism, capable of transporting our thoughts elsewhere.
Especially since the Pandemic, resort wear has taken new meanings and this industry has seen a boom in this category.
What has seen to be lacking in this category is more gender fluid designs. As fashion is rapidly moving towards being gender
less, this is imperative to the existence of resort fashion.
Another function that Resort wear could do with is multi-way clothing. It would not only enable you to wear pieces multiple
times, in multiple ways (adding to sustainability) but also reduce baggage for your travels.
Resort Wear has been around for a while but has only become prominent in the last few years. That being said, its acclaim
will only hike further as it will be incorporated into our daily wear, to make things more interesting.
