Accessing the VLE

You will receive the joining instructions for your selected CB3 course at least 2 weeks before the start date for
your course.

To access the CB3 Business Game log into your account on the website, and then navigate to My Account 
My Learning Environment. (For those who are not members of the IFoA additional information will be given in
your joining instructions).

Once you have logged in you can select the course you have been entered for by clicking on the title (in a
blue box, similar to the example below).

This will give you access to the CB3 Business Game, consisting of different topic areas that you will use
during the game.

The topic areas will not all be visible immediately as they are set to unlock and become available at different
points during the business game.

When you receive your joining instruction you will only see the ‘Welcome to CB3 Business
Management’ topic area and the Week 1 area. As the business game progresses, a new area will
unlock and become available each week.

Your examination information

There are two areas where you can download and view business game materials and information:
 Mandatory Documentation folder: for essential documentation
 ‘Welcome to CB3 Business Management’: for materials for the CB3 business games.

At the top of the page for your exam you will see a folder that contains these documents.

Welcome section

To access the welcome area click on the white text ‘Welcome to CB3 Business Management’. This section
holds the following, which you will need during the business game:

 Strategy and Audit Sheet

 Business Game – Decision Sheet
 Players Briefing Paper
 Accounts Knowledge
 Preparatory study slides
 Question workbook with case studies
 Workbook

Downloading documents from the VLE

To download documents from the VLE platform click on the filename.

The file will be download to your computer.

Making contributions to a discussion on the VLE

Each week a new section of the course on VLE will be unlocked and become available. In each section there
will be discussion forums which you must contribute to.

The discussion forums are used for introductions, and for discussing your team’s decisions for Half Years 1 to
4.

Please note – if you do not contribute to the discussion forum for each Half Year, you will not be able
to move on to the next.

To get to the discussion forums click to go into the correct week.

Within the section there will be a link for you to click on, such as.

Introductions forum
In this forum there will be a pre-existing discussion topic giving you some important information.

To make your own introduction you’ll need to add a new topic. Click on the button shown below and then
enter your text.

Other members of the team can either add their own topic, or click on a discussion title,

And then click on the ‘Reply’ link to reply to a message that has been posted.

This will take you to the following screen, where you can add your text as well as attaching documents.

This is an important feature as during the main business game discussions you will need to circulate the
Strategy and audit sheet your team members.

Half Year discussion forums

In the Half Year discussion forms there won’t be a pre-existing discussion topic posted, so you should start
your own new topic as shown above.

Uploading a document to the VLE

Once your team has completed each Half Year’s decision sheet and/or other required documents you will
need to upload it to the submission area on the VLE (below).

Click on the relevant ‘Submission area’ link

And the following screen will appear. Click on the ‘Add submission’ button

You can then either:

 Drag and drop a file, or

 Use the ‘Add’ button (highlighted in yellow below): browse to your file and upload it

Once uploaded click the ‘Save changes’ button.

You can review your document by clicking the ‘Submission area’ link again, and then checking the file in the
‘File submissions’ line.

If you need to delete the file and upload a new one, click on ‘Edit submission’ as shown above to see the
following:

Click on the document icon to delete your submission.

You can now upload a new file as you did before.

For the decision sheets in Half Year 1 to 4, you will be submitting the file as a group. Only one member of
the group needs to upload the decision sheet.

The team co-ordinator must also input the decision data into the Growbal software.

Uploading your Exercises workbook

You must upload your individual Exercises workbook to the ‘Workbook Submission Area’, following the same
process as shown above.

Please ensure you upload your workbook in a Microsoft Word version or it will not be marked.

Schedule of the Business Game

Week One (Topic area will become available from when joining instructions are sent)

from 09:00, Friday - Introduction forum opens and candidates must contribute.

by end of day, Friday - Candidates must work through the I-coach & College of Law
section 1 material.

Week Two (Half Year 1 material will become available by 11:00am on the Monday)

by 09:00, Monday - Candidates must contribute to the introduction forum and decide
on a team name as a team

Monday, Tuesday - Candidates must work together on Half Year 1 to collate their
ideas.

by 11:00, Wednesday - The Team Coordinator must have inputted their teams Half
Year 1 decision data into the Growbal software

by 11:00, Wednesday - The Team Coordinator must have submitted their teams
Audit and Strategy sheet to the VLE

by end of day, Friday - Candidates must work through the I-coach & College of Law
section 2 material.

Week Three (Half Year 2 material will become available by 11:00am on the Tuesday)

by 11:00, Monday - Candidates will receive their results for Half Year 1 and feedback
from Christine Elgood relating to their Audit & Strategy sheet.

Tuesday, Wednesday and Thursday - Candidates must work together on Half Year 2
to collate their ideas.

by 11:00, Friday - The Team Coordinator must have submitted the Agenda 5 team
response to the VLE

by 11:00, Friday - The Team Coordinator must have inputted their teams Half Year 2
decision sheet data into the Growbal software

Candidates must work through the I-coach & College of Law section 3 material. This
should be done over the week

Week Four (Half Year 3 material will become available by 11:00am on the Wednesday)

by 11:00, Tuesday - Candidates will receive their results for Half Year 2 and
feedback from Christine Elgood relating to their Agenda Item 5 response.

Wednesday and Thursday - Candidates must work together on Half Year 3 to collate
their ideas.

by 11:00, Friday - The Team Coordinator must have inputted their teams Half Year 3
decision sheet data into the Growbal software

 Candidates must work through the I-coach & College of Law section 4 material. This
should be done over the week.

Week Five (Half Year 4 material will become available by 11:00am on the Monday)

by 11:00, Tuesday - Candidates will receive their results for Half Year 3.

Wednesday, Thursday, Friday and the Monday of the Sixth Week - Candidates must
work together on Half Year 4 to collate their ideas.

Candidates must work through the remaining I-coach & College of Law material.
This should be done over the week.

Week Six (Section will become available by 11:00am on the Monday)

Monday - Candidates must continue to work together on Half Year 4 to collate their
ideas.

by 11:00, Tuesday - The Team Coordinator must have submitted their teams
Agenda Item 11 team response.

by 11:00, Tuesday - The Team Coordinator must have inputted their teams HY4
Decision sheet data into the Growbal software

by 11:00, Friday - Candidates will receive their results for Half Year 4 and feedback
from Christine Elgood relating to their Agenda Item 11 team response

by 16:00, Friday - Candidates must individually submit their Workbook
