PANEL DISCUSSION
TITLE: ONE DAY SYMPOSIUM ON CARRER OPPORUNITIES IN
SOCIOLOGY :SCIENCE OF SOCIETY.
Sociology is a social science which helps to understand the way society
works. Those who study sociology will be able analysing sociological
issues and devising potential solutions and improvements, perhaps by
addressing social inequalities relating to factors such as class, gender,
race and poverty
CURRENT OPPORUNITIES:
In a field of sociology ,it gives a us to work in a very wide areas such as
social worker ,urban spaces and planning ,rural planning and social
activist and other areas. It also helps understand the society and how it
works and changes .
CAREER:
the job or series of jobs that you do during your working life, especially
if you continue to get better jobs and earn more money
(Cambridge) .having a job or position as part of the career that you are
trained for and are normally paid to do, rather than being chosen for it
as a member or supporter of a government or political party
CAREER OPPORUINITES IN SOCIOLOGY:
the career potential of sociology majors is almost limitless. Sociologists
are employed by research institutes, the criminal justice system, public
health and welfare organizations, private businesses, law firms,
international agencies, medical centers, educational institutions,
advertising firms, survey and polling organizations, and beyond.
Students with a bachelor’s degree in sociology often secure
employment as social researchers, case workers, paralegals, public
relations workers, administrators, community organizers, public policy
researchers, and data analysts. Sociology also provides great
preparation for going on to law school, medical school, business school,
and for graduate degree programs in social work, education, public
policy, religious ministry, mass communications, public health, non-
profit administration, and international affairs.
The undergraduate degree provides a strong liberal arts preparation
for careers in business, law, education, medicine, social services, and
government. Sociology majors learn how the ways people think, feel,
and behave are situated in historically, culturally, and socially specific
environments; understand how social structure shapes human
behavior; develop skills to read and evaluate research and indeed the
full research process including conceptualization, operationalization,
data collection, analysis, consideration of ethical issues, and
presentation of results.
Social Services: [Social Justice; Culture and Community]
Various social service jobs put sociological findings into action. Social
workers deal directly with individuals and their problems, while project
managers or community service managers develop social programs,
service projects, or manage community centers. A deep understanding
of social justice is key here as it is often the primary goal of such
organizations.
Public Planning and Administration: [Crime and Social Control; Social
Justice]
Sociology asks students to examine larger social forces, so a number of
government-based jobs benefit from a sociological imagination. A
Sociology degree is most directly relevant to the job of policy analyst
(i.e. assessing public policy), but other jobs like legislative aide, where
you would assist a state or federal legislator in policy decisions, may
serve as an entry-level position into politics. At the local level, municipal
jobs like city planner or public safety administrator utilize a deep
understanding of the ways that social structure shapes human
behavior.
Marketing: [Culture and Community; Global Perspectives]
Jobs like market research analyst rely on social science skills. Analysts
help companies figure out products and services that will interest
consumers. Sociology majors develop an understanding of the role of
culture as well as the research methods necessary to conduct
interviews, focus groups, and other ways of predicting consumer
behavior.
Public Health: [Health and Society; Global Perspectives]
Social research plays a key role for public health. For example, while
sociologists do not invent or test vaccines, they do look at why some
people take them, and others refuse. In addition to medical
researchers, community health workers, who work with groups that are
often disconnected from reliable health care, are well suited to
understand cultural differences and the wide variety of issues that
marginalized communities face.

each country has different sociology as different content ,problems.
What you see can be false and hear can be false so you have to think to
know the truth so when you are analysing something think and analyse
it in a proper way. The sociology as a field has emerged after all other
sciences. It is evolved from 20 century and can see it as all round
subject. It has different forms within the sociology as urban
sociology,rural sociology etc.
Prof Musaraath banu k,

beyond one’s perceptions. Teaching sociology based on empirical
knowledge make it more understandable and give a great vision to see
the past and how the society has taken place. As the founding fathers
