I. OBJECTIVES
A. Content Standards The learners demonstrate an understanding of the force that can
change the shape, size, or movement of objects.
B. Performance Standards
C. Learning Competencies/Objectives Describe what happens to an objects movement when force is
applied to an object at rest.
II. CONTENT Explain the effects of force when applied to an object. (S4FE-

Activity: Examine the table given below. The first column shows
the different daily activities. Determine if they will undergo change
in shape, size or both. Put a check mark on the table.

What change/s happen/s to the

Activity object?

Reviewing the previous lesson Picture Check!
or presenting the new lesson
Examine the following pictures on the screen. Tell your insights and
answers to the question.
Imagine you are riding on a bus, the driver suddenly stepped on the
brake, what will happen?

What do you think will happen if you flick this coin?

How will you make this electric fan, move?

How will you make this bicycle stop from moving?

Essential Question:

What will happen if you apply force on an object at rest?

How will you make an object at rest move?

What do you think the Law of Motion is being describe or shown in

the following scenario?

2. What causes an object to move or stop?
3. How does force affect the movement of an object?

Let’s Try to Answer!

#1 The class will be divided into four groups and they will perform an
2. Discussing new concepts experiment. The experiment will only consume 5 minutes. They will
and practicing new skills present their answers on the board later.
#2

GROUP 1 (Coin Drop)

Materials needed: Plastic cup, index card, coin

Instruction:
1. Cover the cup with the paper card and put the coin on top of
the card.
2. Flick or pull the paper card with your fore finger in a
horizontal direction. Observe what will happen.
3. Apply lesser and greater force in pulling the paper card with
coin. Compare the result of the two objects.

Guide Question:
1. Why does the coin drop in the cup when the card is flicked
away?
2. What happens to the coin if it was pull slowly and apply
greater force? lesser force?
3. How did you manage to move the coin into the cup?

GROUP 2 (Book at Rest)

Materials needed: Book

Instruction:
1. Place the book on the table.
2. Push the book in opposite direction and let your group mate
push the book in opposite direction. Observe what happen.

Guide Question:
1. Is the book at rest or in motion?
2. Are there forces acting on the book? If yes, draw the
direction of the force.
3. Upon pushing the object in the opposite direction with your
groupmate, did the book move?
4. If no, how will you make the book move?
GROUP 3 (Flick the bottle)

Materials:
Plastic bottle filled with water
Thick paper

Instruction:
1. Place the bottle above the thick paper in rough surface.
2. Bring the bottle into motion by pulling the paper slowly.
3. Gradually increases the speed of pulling stop pulling
when the bottle gains a certain speed.

Guide questions:

1. What happen with the plastic bottle filled with water?

2. How did you manage to make the bottle move?
GROUP 4 (Rolling Ball and Toy Car)

Materials needed:
Ball
Toy Car

Instruction:
1. Let the ball be in motion applying force to it.
2. Exert a force to make the object stop from moving.
3. For the toy car, let the toy car move by exerting a force.

Guide questions:

1. What are the ways did you do to make the two objects
move?
2. Which among the two objects require greater and lesser
force to keep it moving?
3. How will you make these objects stop while in motion?

4. EXPLAIN Sharing time

Each group will receive will present their work for minutes in front.
They will receive a chip as their token for recitation.

5. ELABORATE
1. Finding practical The first Law of Motion was proposed by Sir Isaac Newton. The
applications of concepts law of inertia says that, “an object at rest will remain at rest unless
and skills in daily living acted on by an unbalanced force. This means that there is a natural
2. Making generalizations tendency of objects to keep on moving on their own.
and abstractions about
the lesson.
Now, let’s discuss the types of inertia.

Types of Inertia

1) Inertia at Rest
2) Inertia in Motion
3) Inertia in Direction

Inertia at Rest- A tendency of a body or material to remain at rest

Inertia in Motion- The fact that an object will carry on at the same
speed until a force is put upon it.

Inertia in Direction- The inability of a body to change by itself its

direction of motion.
6. EVALUATE Seatwork

2. Because of inertia, an object at _____ will remain at rest.
3. Because of inertia, an object _____ will continue moving.

it.
