Note: Your Sesam Manager window will probably not look exactly like the figure above. The layout
depends on program version and parameters such as size of your window, monitor, resolution and more.
The Quick Access toolbar is found in the upper left corner. Undo and redo buttons appear here. In Sesam
Manager the Quick Access toolbar is not configurable.
Title Bar
Next to the Quick Access toolbar is the Title bar. It displays the job or document title on which you are
currently working as well as program name and version.
Ribbon
JavaScript commands tell Sesam Manager what to do. The buttons on the ribbon are used to issue
commands. There are four tabs: File, Home, View and Tool. These have different sets of buttons.
The File tab gives access to recent jobs, user manuals (Help) and an Options dialog.
Quick Access
Toolbar Title Bar
The main view of Sesam manager is filled with one or more tabs. Typical tabs are Quick Start, Start,
Jobs and jobs you are working with.
Other Views
File Overview gives an overview of files associated with the current job.
Applications contains all applications (mostly Sesam programs) available in the Sesam
Application Version Manager (AVM), i.e. programs installed on your computer.
Command Line contains two fields for JavaScripts: Output from executed commands (upper area)
and input field for execution of scripts entered by the user (lower area).
Message List contains status information for the current Sesam Manager session.
Job Comments is for free text information related to the current job.
Activity Run Manager contains three areas for running job/activity: Run drop area, Select drop
area and Hold drop area. Drag and drop job/activities to these areas.

Views
You can rearrange the layout completely. When dragging floating views docking guides appear to
indicate valid docking locations. A preview of the view location is shown when the mouse hovers over an
area of the docking guide as shown below.

A view can be unpinned to enter an auto-hide state. Tabs are shown on the outer edges (left, right or
bottom) for hidden (unpinned) views. When the mouse hovers over a tab the view appears. You can
then pin it to make it stick.
Views can also be closed by clicking the upper right X. To bring back closed views select them from the
Views menu on the View ribbon.
In the Create Job dialog give a name for the job, e.g. Tutorial1. Note that there should be no space
characters in the name.
A new job page appears as shown below. In the Properties view you can change Description and
Workspace, i.e. the root folder for the job folder structure. Note that these parameters will be locked
after the first execution of an activity.
The Properties view shows properties associated with the selected activity in the job. For GeniE you may
for example set the SuperElementNumber. But in our case there is no need for changing the default
value.
Many of the properties for GeniE become inactive when a CmdInputFile is specified. The units are
changed according to the settings on the CmdInputFile:
Right click the GeniE activity and select Run from the menu. GeniE opens, reads the input file and
exports the T1.FEM file (Sesam Input Interface File).
The GeniE activity has now become green to indicate successful execution. The CmdInputFile property is
void and DatabaseStatus has changed from New to Old.
GeniE stores the T1.FEM file in the folder ‘<workspace>\Tutorial1\GeniEActivity1’. Sesam Manager
recognises it as an output file from GeniE. The file therefore appears under the logic Output folder under
the folder GeniEActivity1 as shown in the File Overview above.
To make the T1.FEM file available for other activities Sesam Manager copies it to the folder
‘<workspace>\Tutorial1\_repository’. It therefore also appears under the folder _repository as shown in
the File Overview.
Furthermore, Sesam Manager recognises the T1.FEM as a potential input file to Sestra. The file therefore
appears in the logic Input folder under the folder SestraActivity1 as shown in the File Overview.
Note that the logic Input and Output folders above are logic and not real in the sense that they do not
appear as folders in Windows Explorer.
Sestra creates the R1.SIN file and stores it in the folder ‘<workspace>\Tutorial1\_repository’.
R1.SIN, NORSAM.MLG and SESTRA.LIS are all output files from Sestra and therefore appear in the logic
Output folder under the folder SestraActivity1. This is true irrespective of in which folder they are
actually placed. R1.SIN is, for example, stored by Sestra directly in the folder _repository.
The actual location of a file is shown by a tooltip when pointing to the file as shown to the left below.
The print files from Sestra (NORSAM.MLG and SESTRA.LIS) can be inspected by selecting Open with
Notepad from the context sensitive menu as show to the right below.
