Due date: Week 6
Objective: To practice a variety of activities based on elemental grammar structures and
vocabulary from your English I course to improve your skills on the four areas of language as
an A1 Level student, so you can be prepared for the Oxford English Test.
Theme / competencies to achieve: To develop your listening, speaking, reading, and writing
skills as an A1 level student according to the CEFR while practicing the simple past of be
was/were, simple past: regular and irregular verbs, and English Oxford test practice.

Instructions:
This activity consists of 5 parts. When you finish each activity, take a screen shot of your
results and you upload ONE word document of your results.

Please read the instructions carefully.

Activity 1: Simple past of be: was/were.

a. Click on the following link. Order the words to form affirmative, negative statements,
and questions when needed.

b. Take a screen shot of your final score and include the image in your Word document.

Activity 2: Simple past: regular and irregular verbs.

a. In the link below you will find 10 sentences, type the verb in its past tense to complete
each statement.

c. Write 10 sentences in past tense that are true for you. Include the sentences in your

Activity 3: Weekend talk.

a. Click on the following link, listen to the conversation, and answer the 6 questions from
the quiz. Please just listen to the audio twice. Don´t read the transcript. This is a
listening practice.

Exercise 6

Activity 4: Complete the missing word.

a. Read the following test and complete the missing words. Look at the example “0”.

My twentieth birthday.

It is going 0. ( to ) be my twentieth birthday soon, but I am not sure if my life will change so
much. When I was 1.( ____) elementary school, my mom used to drive me everywhere. It was
convenient, but I always wanted more independence. Now at 2. (_____) University I ride my
bike to the campus every day, so I can hang out after school 3. (_____) my friends and go home
whenever I want. That’s cool.

Another difference is that I used 4. (____) get just a little homework every day. I did it while I
watched TV, and it was easy. Now I always have at least two hours 5. (____) homework every
day, and if I do it while I watch TV, I always get things wrong. I never seem to have enough time
to do my schoolwork and fun stuff too. But I enjoy every minute of this experience.

Activity 5: Past simple. Negative Statements.
