TDA - SD Card Formatting

This document provides instructions for formatting an SD card using a TDA device rather than a PC. Formatting using the TDA is necessary to properly format the card with a 16K cluster size required by the TDA software. The 14 step process includes inserting the SD card into the TDA, connecting to the TDA via RS-232C, logging in, initiating the format command through the terminal window, confirming the format, and finally copying required files to the formatted card. Caution is noted to only format the intended card and not remove it while formatting is in progress.

Technical Guide No. 99 (1st Edition)

Model TDA
Software Version MPR 0.189 or later
Title SD card formatting
Reference Number 20030220-1
A SD card format is needed for adapting to the TDA software structure. But formatting by PC is not
recommended. The guide explains how to format a SD card by using the TDA.
Reason
The requested formatting cluster size for the TDA is 16K. But formatting cluster size by PC is 512K.
If you use a SD card that has been formatted to 512K in the PBX, it may cause the system to reset
during normal operation.

1. Step
CAUTION:
This step will erase the entire contents of the SD card. Make sure you do not format a different card
by mistake.
1- With the TDA turned on, insert a SD card to be formatted to the PBX MPR card.
2- Connect your PC to the TDA using an RS-232C cable.
3- Start your communication terminal software on the PC.
4- Program the communication parameter settings of the RS-232C port.
Bits per second: 19200 bps
Data bits: 8 bit
Parity: None
Stop bits: 1
Flow Control: None
5- When the communication terminal window opens, press [Space], then [Enter].
“-“ is displayed.
6- Type “LOGIN”, then press [Enter].
“Enter Password:” is displayed.
7- Enter the installer level password (default: 1234), then press [Enter].
“MPR>” is displayed.
8- Set the system clear switch to the “SYSTEM INITIALIZE” position.
9- Type “SDFMT”, then press [Enter].
10- Type “Y”, then press [Enter].
11- Type “Y” again, then press [Enter].
12- After “Format Complete” is displayed on the PC,
return the system clear switch to the NORMAL
position.
13- Remove the SD card from the PBX MPR card.
After formatting, the following directory will be created in
the SD card “PRIVATE/MEIGROUP/PCC/PBX”.
14- Copy files such as “PMPR” and “DSYS” to the "PBX"
folder.

Note:
Please do not remove the SD card while the "SD ACCESS" LED is flashing. Doing so may cause
damage to the SD card, or result in loss of data.
The pre-installed SD card does not need to be formatted. If you use a SD card other than the one
that was pre-installed, that card must be formatted by the TDA.
