LABORATORY EXPERIMENT # 3
The autonomic nervous system is a component of the peripheral nervous system that regulates
involuntary physiologic processes including heart rate, blood pressure, respiration, digestion,
and sexual arousal. It contains three anatomically distinct divisions: sympathetic,
parasympathetic, and enteric.
1. What did you observe when the pen was taken from?
a. his right hand?
o Since the pen does not have a considerable amount of weight that could alter
his hand posture, there was no significant movement on his hand after
removing it.
b. his left hand?
o The same is applicable for his left hand; because the pen does not have a
substantial weight that could affect his hand posture, there was no significant
movement on his hand after removing it.
2. What did you observe when the 2kg books were taken from?
a. his right hand?
o When the book was placed, his hand was shaking and drifting down, but
when it was removed, his hand was lifted since it was not disturbed by the
weight.
b. his left hand?
o The same is accurate for his right hand, which raised immediately the book
was removed from his grasp.
3. What did you observe when the 2kg books were taken from his both hands?
• When the book was withdrawn from his hands, both of his hands lifted.
4. What did you observe when the 5kg books were taken from?
a. his right hand?
o When the book was removed from his grasp, his hand lifted significantly.
5. What did you observe when the 5kg books were taken from his both hands?
• When the book was withdrawn from his hands, both of his hands lifted.
6. Did lifting the objects from the left- and right-hand yield different results? Why?
• According to my observations, it did not produce different effects because both of his
hands raised the same amount when the books were removed from his hands.
7. Compare your results lifting the 2kg and 5kg books using his left hand, right hand and both
hands.
• Because of the amount of weight his hand experienced, I believe his hand recoiled more
when the 5kg book was removed from his hand than when the 2kg books were removed.
I. RIGHT HAND
OBSERVATION:
• I can feel my body relaxing after applying pressure to the middle of my hand for a
minute.
OBSERVATION:

GENERAL QUESTIONS:
• The rest and digest points approach benefits our bodies by regulating blood pressure,
digestion, and waste removal. By spending more time resting and eating, our brains can
learn to distinguish between regular life stress and life-threatening stress.
2. Do you think this experiment can lessen stress or anxiety? Explain why.
• According to studies, this exercise can reduce stress and anxiety because the rest and
digest points allow our bodies relax, also our brains learn to differentiate between normal
life stress and life-threatening stress.
• When the autonomic nervous system gets information about the body and its
surroundings, it responds by either stimulating or inhibiting physiological activities,
typically through the sympathetic division or the spinal cord.
• Your parasympathetic nervous system is a network of nerves that relaxes your body
after stressful or dangerous situations. It also aids in the operation of life-sustaining
functions such as digestion when you are safe and comfortable.
• My conclusion from this experiment is that our bodies have their own way of dealing with
pain, whether it is mental or physical. We simply need to study our bodies thoroughly to
understand its wonders.
