Questions:

1. How does culture influence the Filipino character?

Culture is described as a whole society’s way of life. Filipino personalities are
influenced by culture in such a way that culture has a big role in starting
Filipino patterns of behavior that mature into more permanent habits. In the
Philippines, the social order is governed by age and social standing. The value
of the underpinning social order is instilled is nearly all Filipino from an early
age. It means that we can adopt a characteristic from the culture we are
exposed to.

2. Five allege irregularities committed by ranking officials in government

 Priority development Assistance Fund Scam (2013)- Involving businesswoman

Janet Lim- Napoles, Juan Ponce Enrile, Jinggoy Estrada Ramon Revilla Jr. and
two former representatives.

Reaction: It was extremely unjust on the taxpayer’s or community’s behalf.

Instead of utilizing those initiatives to our benefit, there is no project and it
was referred as a ghost project. There has been a misappropriation of monies.

 New Bilibid Prison drug trafficking scandal- involving former Justice Secretary,
now senator Leila de Lima and several other government officials linked to
illegal drug trade at the New Bilibid Prison.

Reaction: The Philippine government is serious about eradicating drug cartels,

and it’s hard to believe that even a high-ranking official would be participating
in such actions. People have trust issues when it comes to government officials
since they create rules while also breaching them.

 Juetengate (2000)- Chavit Singson expose on Pre. Joseph Estrada receiving

jueteng payoffs and bribes. This led to the impeachment of Estrada and
eventual downfall.

Reaction: How can we trust government officials if they continue to squander

public funds for their private benefit?
 Hello Garci Scandal (2004)- scandal involving Pres. Gloria Macapagal Arroyo on
committing electoral fraud during the 2004 National Elections.

Reaction: Our vote is a way for us to express ourselves. Money, on the other
hand, can swing the tables in favor of wealthy politicians, even if they are
unworthy of your support.

 PhilHealth corruption scandal (2020)- involving former president and CEO

Ricardo C. Morales and several other officials for the alle corruption and
anomalies within the agency based on the testimonies of former anti-fraud
legal officer Atty. Thorson Montes Keith on July 24,2020.

Reaction: People put their money into investments for their health, yet these
authorities utilize the cash for their own gain. The worst aspect is that the issue
is fading away without resolution.

3. Strengths and weaknesses of Filipino characters that you experienced.

WEAKNESSES
 Lack of Discipline- This persona affected me in such a way that I sometimes lack
discipline when it comes to time management. I have trouble managing my
time and frequently procrastinate on schoolwork.
 Lack of Self Analysis and self-reflection- Sometimes I joked about something
that for me is funny without thinking that it is a serious matter for others.
STRENGHTS
 Pakikipagtao- I encountered pakikipag Tao as a manner of practicing
bayanihan, or helping people.
 Family Orientation- I value my family very much. Sense of family results in a
feeling of belongingness and rootedness in a basic sense of security

4. Reaction to a politician campaign ad at least six (6) candidates. Three (3) LOCAL and
three (3) NATIONAL.
1.Bong Revilla” budots dance”

His campaign video did not show his election platform nor his past
achievement. Although he is a professional actor, he chose not to shoot scenes
of himself pretending to one with the toiling masses, or to make statements of
how community service is his deepest passion. He simply danced to budots.

2. Jejomar Binay’s “Sino ba si Nognog ”

This is the perfect example on how to turn a negative into a positive. What
started out as insult to Binay by his many critics, he has since then embraced nognog as the
underdog who performs. And as everyone knows, we Filipino love people who champions the
underdog. It’s a simple TVC that gets the job done.
3. Isko Moreno’s “Alam ko po yun”

Moreno is telling his story that he also experiences poverty. It is like

persuading people to believe him because he knew it and he experience it.

4. Celso Lobregat

This is one of Celso’s political posters. It is concise and witty.

5. Khymer Olaso

This campaign ads are accompanied by his campaign song and he also showed
his achievements.
6. King Omaga

A campaign ad that shows his achievements and platforms. It is very aesthetic.
