Cooling Fan Motor, Charge Air Cooler, Checking/adjusting High RPM
Cooling Fan Motor, Charge Air Cooler, Checking/adjusting High RPM
Op nbr 258-017
Tools:
11666051 Pressure gauge
14290266 Hose
88830195 Tachometer
This operation also includes required tools and times for applicable parts of the following operations:
NOTE!
The method should be performed using service tool Tech Tool 26351-3 Hydraulic cooling fan, test. Measuring can be done with a
tachometer and/or pressure gauge. In case worn hydraulic motor is suspected, use both measuring methods so that pressure
and rpm can be compared.
Check the fan and its mounting before the test so there are no cracks or damages.
The hydraulic oil temperature should be between 20–40 °C (68–104 °F). The hydraulic oil temperature is read off on
the operator's display in service mode. See Service mode, description.
Tips: The hydraulic oil temperature can be increased faster by running the engine at increased idle and at the same time holding
the dump lever in its front position.
WARNING
Do not cut off the electric power by the hydraulic pump to check and measure the fan speed. The fan overspeeds and there is
risk of injury and machine damage.
Check

Pressure gauge
3. Clean around pressure check connection M9 that is located under the solenoid valve (MA2606) by the charge-air cooler.
4. Connect 11666051 Pressure gauge and 14290266 Hose to the pressure check connection.

6. Fasten a piece of reflective tape on one of the cooling fan's rotor blades.

WARNING
Keep the area in front of the fan clear during the test.
9. Start the test 26351-3 Hydraulic cooling fan, test in Tech Tool, select high rpm.
10. Install the tachometer so that the sensor points at the rotor blades. Avoid standing in front of the fan. Check that the
pressure and rpm of the fan follow each other.

WARNING
Do not remain under the machine when the engine is running.
Adjusting
NOTE!
If adjusting is needed, the engine must be off.
14.
Figure 7
Mechanical setting of pump pressure (low and high) affects the software-controlled max. rpm of the fan.
Loosen the lock nut and adjust the pressure.
NOTE!
To decrease the pressure, turn counter-clockwise. To increase the pressure, turn clockwise. Adjusting the high pressure
also affects the low pressure (in the relationship 3:1) For example, increasing by 6 bar (87 psi) increases the low pressure
by ≈ 2 bar (29 psi). The opposite applies when adjusting the low pressure. For correct pressure, see Hydraulic pressure,
specifications.

16. Start the engine and check the pressure again. Read off with the pressure gauge or tachometer. Repeat the procedure
until correct pressure is obtained.
20. Remove the pressure gauge, hose, tachometer, and the piece of tape.
21. Close the engine hood and lift the front grille.
