Maintenance Scroll Compressor

Orbiting Scroll Fixed Scroll

7
Scroll Compression Principle

Air is drawn into the compressor at the outer

portion of the scroll.
The orbiting scroll moves inside of the fixed scroll.
The air is forced into progressively smaller
chambers towards the center.
The compressed air is then discharged through the
center of the fixed scroll.
No inlet or exhaust valves are needed.

Maintenance for 3 & 5 HP Scroll Compressors
2,500 Hours Maintenance
•Replace intake filter element
•Clean compressor fins
•Check belt tension

5,000 Hours Maintenance

•Replace v-belts

Note: High Pressure Models ONLY

•Replace Tip Seals
•Re-grease bearings Or 2 years

INTAKE AIR FILTER REPLACEMENT
• every 2,500 HOURS – MAINTENANCE
1. Remove the Filter Cover.

11
2. Change the Filter Element 3. Reassemble the Filter Cover.

CAUTION
Do not attempt to clean the filter element. This filter
requires replacement and is to be replaced when
contaminated.
12
COOLING FIN CLEANING
• Every 2500 HOURS - MAINTENANCE

1. Remove the FS (Fixed Scroll) cover. 2. Clean FS fins with a blow gun.

Remove these seven bolts.

13
BLOWER FAN CLEANING
• Every 5,000 HOURS – MAINTENANCE

1. Remove five screws and take the Fan Cover off. 2. Blow off dirt and dust

14
REGREASE BEARINGS - Grease Gun

1 – is the grease gun canister with lever, 2 & 3 are the extension
adaptor/nozzles (3 is not used on the E-series.)
To assemble: Remove the cap to the grease cartridge, screw into the
grease gun, screw the canister over that and attach the extension
adaptor/nozzle.
CAUTION - Use only Powerex genuine grease. Pump grease gun before
feeding (this eliminates air from the grease passage of the extension
adaptor.)

15
REGREASE BEARINGS
5,000 HOURS – MAINTENANCE (High pressure model)
10,000 HOURS – MAINTENANCE (Regular pressure model)
WARNING
CAUTION
Per OSHA regulations, ALL power must be locked out
This service should be performed by an authorized
before performing any maintenance.

22
LP Tip Seal HP Tip Seal

Use a ball point pen to remove the tip seals (start with the low pressure tip seal,
then the high pressure tip seal,) and dust seal, along with the back up tube. When
installing the new tip seal set, go in the reverse order (HP first, then LP.)

23
Tip seal installation cont.

Start at the center of the scroll, inserting the HP tip seal,

so that there is as small a gap as possible at the end of the
groove in the scroll wrap. Insert so that the new LP tip seal will contact the
Notch
HP tip seal inside the scroll groove.

CAUTION
Insert approximately half of the LP Tip Seal and
remove the Tip Seal to confirm that a notch in the Tip
Seal has been achieved. This will prevent movement
during running. Before reinserting, remove dust
around the notch.

24
Tip seal installation cont.

Insert new Backup Tube in the FS, then insert new Dust Seal on the Backup Tube.

plus a quarter turn, or
finger tight plus a half
turn.

26
Tip seal installation cont.

After replacing the tip seal set, reassemble the FS set and fan duct
to the air end. Tighten the bolts and nuts temporarily and confirm
the pulley rotates smoothly by hand, then tighten firmly (see
torques below.)

Alternate corners when tightening the bolts (Ex. top left, bottom
right, then top right, bottom left, etc.)

Above maintenance intervals are based on conditions where the ambient temperature is
around 86°F. If the temperature is higher or running conditions are more severe, shorten above
maintenance period by approximately 30% from above recommended run hours for every 8°F
