Analysis of A Planar Truss

1) A planar truss structure was analyzed using finite element analysis software. 2) The total deformation, stresses, and reactions were calculated. 3) It was found that the maximum total deformation occurred at the center of the structure, while the minimum occurred at the fixed points. The maximum stresses also occurred on the central truss beams.

Post Processing:

In this experiment we have analyse a planar truss. We created a new material having
young’s modulus 13.1 GPa and poison’s ratio 0.29 in the engineering data. Then in design
modular we insert the end points of the given structure and connect them all using lines. Then
we create cross-section of 6 cm by 6 cm around the lines to make them as beams. Then insert
the structure in modal and assigned the material to it. By adding fixed support at two ends
and 30 kN downwards force on middle three points we will get conclusion as follow:

1) Total Deformation:
 The first image of the processing shows the total deformation of the structure.
 Maximum Total Deformation is 0.0060724 m.
 Minimum Total Deformation is 0 m.
 The maximum total deformation occurs at the central part of the structure.
 The minimum total deformation occurs at the fixed points of the structure.

2) Beam Tool:
a) Direct Stress:
 The first image of beam tool in processing shows the direct stress acting on the
structure in 1 sec.
 Maximum Direct Stress is 8.1922e6 Pa.
 Minimum Direct Stress is -1.7452e7 Pa.
 The maximum direct stress is acted on the central truss beams.
 The minimum direct stress is acted on the side and upper beams.

b) Minimum Combined Stress:

 The second image of beam tool in processing shows the minimum combined
stress acting on the structure in 1 sec.
 Minimum Combined Stress has max value 7.8311e6 Pa.
 Minimum Combined Stress has min value -1.9738e7 Pa.
 It is maximum at central truss beams.
 It is minimum at outer side and upper beams.

c) Maximum Combined Stress:

 The third image of beam tool in processing shows the maximum combined
stress acting on the structure in 1 sec.
 Minimum Combined Stress has max value 1.0718e7 Pa.
 Minimum Combined Stress has min value -1.7134e7 Pa.
 It is maximum on the two side vertical beams.
 It is minimum on side and upper beams.
