    PSYCHIATRIC NURSING

    ACTIVITY: Encode your answer following the format. Long bond paper, Font – Arial, Font size – 11, Spacing –
    1.15, Margin - 1” all sides.
    Instruction:
    1. Read and understand the poem per stanza carefully.
    2. Underline the group of words you think is important in each stanza.
    3. How are you going to correlate the underlined words it in a psychiatric setting?

    Sample 1st stanza: When I ask you to listen to me


    And you start giving advice
    You have not done what I asked.

    Explain here the importance of the underlined word in Psychiatric setting.

    2nd stanza When I ask you to listen to me


    And you began to tell me why i shouldn’t feel that way
    You are trampling on my feeling.

    Explanation:

    When I ask you to listen to me


    And you feel you have to do something to solve my problem
    You have failed me, strange as that may seem.

    Listen!
    All I ask, was that you Listen, not talk or do-just hear me.
    I can do for myself, I’m not helpless
    Maybe discouraged and faltering, but not helpless.

    When you do something for me


    That I can and need to do for myself
    You contributed to my fear and weakness.

    But, when you accept a simple fact that I feel what I feel,
    No matter how irrational, then I can quit trying to convince you.

    And I can get about the business of understanding what’s


    behind the irrational feeling.

    And when that’s clear, the answers are obvious and I don’t need advice.
    So, please listen and just hear me.
    And if you want to talk, wait a minute for your turn and I’ll listen to you.
