BSAIS401A Human Resource Management

Task Performance in Human Resource Management-Prefinals

1. What are the issues mentioned in the case?
The issue that is mentioned in the case in the attitude of Lynecia. Lynecia has a bad
attitude problem that affect the operation of the organization and resulted to some conflict
inside the organization. Due to Lynecia arrogance, inconsideration and being build a
argument when dealing with other people there is already a toxic work environment that
is arising because of Lynecia attitude.
It is said that Lynecia bad attitude started when there is a reorganization in the company
that resulted in her being assigned under Betty supervisory. Helen and Lynecia got along
well where they are productive in both ways as Lynecia are following her supervisor
Helen, there is no problem between them that is why they can cooperate very well but
Lynecia’s under Betty’s supervision aside that they don’t get along it also affect their
customers. When Betty approach Lynecia about her attitude it became worser and
damage the image of Betty and backstabbing her. There is no specific approach on how
Betty approach Lynecia because sometimes the way we approach bad attitude worsen the
situation but at the same time its on how they are going to apply it its either in negative or
the positive side and based on Lynecia’s she received the approach as a negative thing
that really doesn’t help her to grown and change how she act in a workplace. Even
though Lynecia was approach nicely her attitude became worse.
Due to the Lynecia’s backstabbing to Betty saying she was always away in her desk
Helen gave a friendly advice to Betty to stay more closer in her desk. This cause a
problem in the auditing department where Betty part of the job is to support the auditing
department. The situation was reported in Bud Fuller office and made following
announcement that Betty and staff have to report to Bud Fuller directly instead of Helen,
Betty is the supervisor in charge and she is not away from her desk too much and last if
there are problem with Betty approach her directly and don’t say things behind her back
if the situation doesn’t go well and there is no decision occur go to Bud Fuller to properly
address the problem.

2. If you are Betty, how would you have responded to the complaint of Neal Coleman
about Lynecia?
I’ll do the same, I will approach her in a manner that she will be aware of what she has
done. I will approach her in positive manner by praising some of her good work and
afterward address the issue regarding her attitude to the phone, what happened and why
she acted that way because maybe there is something that Noel Coleman secretary told
that make Lynecia rude in the phone call. Asking the situation is very important because
as her supervisor I should first know what happened in order not to be bias in the
situation ignoring her recent bad attitude in the organization. Although I know that
Lynecia has an issue regarding to her attitude I should be still asking about the situation
and not conclude that the situation was always because of Lynecia bad attitude. As her
manager I should teach her although she talks behind my back, she is my responsibility
and that’s why all her action is being thrown at me every time that there is a problem with
her.

3. Are Lynecia’s action and treatment toward Betty considered insubordination? List
all the reason that might fall under insubordination.
Yes, that is because Betty asks her to train the floater secretary but had not trained her at
the end of the week. The floater secretary will be the one who will sit in in Lynecia
position while she was on vacation but because Lynecia has not yet trained the floater
secretary Betty canceled her vacation leave and told Lynecia that if she is able to train the
floater secretary a week before her vacation, she will restore her vacation leave. As a
secretary under in supervision Lynecia must comply to all her responsibilities and duties
because it is her job to do so. Neglecting responsibility at work and leaving it behind falls
under insubordination. It is not supervisor duty to please the employee under her because
it was their duty to follow her order most importantly if it is part of their job. As an
employee we must be aware of the responsibilities that we needed to fill and its not our
place to be the one who will be followed.

in your conduct and/or performance. The intent is to define the seriousness of the situation
for you so that you may take immediate corrective action. This written warning will be
placed in your personnel file.

Reason for warning (violation of company policy or unsatisfactory performance/behaviors):

Bad attitudes inside the company affect the company work environment and hinder transactions
of the organization. Insubordination also includes where she is not following the order of her
supervisor.
Prior discussion or warnings on this subject (verbal/written, dates):
She is addressed and confronted regarding to her bad attitude on a phone call between Noel
Coleman secretary but there is not any firm discussion.
Relevant company policy violated: You must do your duty when you are in the workplace is
one of the basic and general policies for every company. Lynecia is not doing her job properly
and just spreading rumors about her supervisor that greatly affect her duty as a helper in the
auditing department. Insubordination also exists when she doesn’t follow the task given to her
by Betty which is also for Lynecia for her to be to go in her vacation leave of course she does
need someone who will be in her place while she was gone for a vacation leave.
Corrective action required:
Improve attitude positively towards work and separate personal issues that affect the work
environment. Accept that you are wrong and correct it, understand that you’re not always right.

Consequences of failure to improve performance or correct behavior:

The consequence of her failure is based on the task that is given to her. If Lynecia failed to do
the task, then she was not able to gain the benefit for accomplishing the task and lessen the
days of her vacation leave which is the effect of her performance in the company.
The above has been discussed with me by my supervisor. I understand the contents and
acknowledge and understand the corrective action required. I also acknowledge and
understand the potential consequences of noncompliance.
