I. Introduction:

Artificial Intelligence has been a widely known phrase among all experts and
laymen alike in this age. The world is undergoing the 5.0 revolution, in which
Artificial Intelligence plays an indispensible role. Moreover, with the outbreak of
the COVID-19 pandemic and its consequences, AI is showing even more
significance in human’s life.
- We can see AI application in our everyday life, including the increasing
intelligence of smart phones, the rise in the power of cloud-based data, etc. With
that increasing significance, we are going to elucidate the use of data in five
difference enterprises, according to direct interview and additional research, to see
how AI is applied to each firm to increase productivity and efficiency.
- Five companies that we will go into more details in this report are KPMG, Viettel,
Tiki, InterContinential and VinAI, each representing one differnt industry, for us
to have the most comprehensive approach to the matter.
II. Report of companies:
1. KPMG:
a. About the company:
- According to its official website, KPMG is a “ global network of professional
firms providing Audit, Tax and Advisory services.” It is one of the Big Four
Accounting Firms, consisting of Deloitte, KPMG, Ernst & Young and PwC.
b. The use of AI at KPMG:
- With the service offered in KPMG, the company is now focusing on automating
the auditing process to reuduce workload for auditors and increase precision in
auditing. Using emerging technology in auditing and the company’s service also
allows auditors of the company to focus on risk management, gain insights and
patterns to see the overall picture to better offer their services.
- KPMG is now focusing on building state-of-the-art technology-based auditing
ecosystem to modernize auditing.
- AI is now implemented at various services at KPMG, including:
o Cost management
o Growth and customer engagement
o Risk and regulatory policy
- AI capabilities at KPMG:
- Current projects that involves AI at KPMG:
o KPMG Clara: Intelligent, AI-driven, cloud-based auditing
platform.
o KPMG OnDemand: A new AI database launched by KPMG
Vietnam, offering training courses, on-site assitance service for company’s
leaders and staff to enhance their expertise, thereby boosting the
comapny’s performance.
2. Viettel
a. About the company:
- According to its website, Viettel Group is currently “the largest
telecommunications group in Vietnam with 76 million customers.” It is a state-
owned enterprise with the largest share in Vietnamese telecommunications

a. The use of AI at Viettel Group:
- According to interview conducted with a member of Viettel Human Resource
Employee (23/04/2022):
o To be hired by Viettel, the expertise in technology is of utmost
importance, however, regarding AI, it is important to note what
department students want to join.
o She further implied: “Having a expertise on AI is a bonus point”
o Some AI-driven system that the company is currently running include:
Viettel’s external products:
Speech recognition: Allow users to transform speech to documents
written in Vietnamese with high grammatical precision.
Speech optimization
Viettel Cloud Camera : Widely used in the medical and
transportation system.
For internal management:
ViOffice Assistance system: Cloud-based database of the
company’s documents, allowing easy access to data and data
security.
Cyberbot: A chatbox that automatically answers cusstomers’
concern, thereby reducing the workload on the Sales Department.
- She also implied that Viettel also had an open platform for AI, the link can be
found via: Viettel AI open platform, which lists current AI projects of the group.
3. InterContinential:
a. About the company:
- Intercontinental is one of the world’s leading hotel companies, with around
325,000 colleagues working across more than 100 countries to deliver True
Hospitality for Good.
b. The use of AI at InterContinential:
- According to an interview with HR Manager from InterContinential
(23/04/2022):
o “At the moment, Intercontinetal in Vietnam and Lao Region is not actively
focusing in AI engagement in most of our product and service”
o They do not require their applicants to have any AI specific skills at all
since they only recruit people working in operation and business,
including Front desk, Bartender, Sales and Marketing, etc. However, some
of AI-inspired skills are expected, especially those relating to problem-
solving and problem identifying.
For example, they expect their applicants to have logical
thinking when approaching a problem, realizing the similarities
with those that happened before and come up with a data-based
and customer-centric solution.
o The AI project that InterContinential is currently running:
Currently, they are having an AI-run hotel named "Sojo" in Hanoi.
The technology used in the hotel is mainly used for facial
identification in check-in process. Regarding the more traditional
hotel brands like Intercontinental or Six Senses, they are
concerning the use of AI in satisfaction recognition by analyzing
the smile or other facial movement to see the emotion of their
customer after staying. With more luxury hotels with exclusive
service like butter, they can utilize AI robots to serve as the private
butter for the guests to ensure a 24/7 service and more privacy.
4. Tiki:
a. About the company:
- Ti Ki Joint Stock Company ("TiKi") is the unit that establishes and organizes the
e-commerce platform www.tiki.vn so that sellers can conduct part of the whole
process of buying and selling goods and services on the e-commerce platform.
Tiki is an acronym for “Tìm Kiếm” and “Tiết Kiệm”, very simple and easy to
remember.
- An average of more than 100 million customers visit Tiki’s e-commerce every
month.
b. The use of AI at Tiki:
- According to direct interview with Senior IT Specialist at Tiki:
Tiki has developed an AI-based monitoring engine. Tiki's AI system has 3
main tasks: managing and filtering the seller's product quality, creating a
good experience and giving recommendation products to buyers, and
upgrading the quality and quantity of products for e-commerce.
Tiki’s AI can collect and process a huge amount of data, including
customer reviews, ratings, return rates, order cancellations. This helps to
classificate products and reduce the frequency which fake & low- quality
products appear on customer’s feed.
In addition to the data used to evaluate products, tiki also focuses on data
serve consumers such as a recommendation system (based on two
algorithms, content base and collaborative), floor pricing for the market
sales,... Suggest objects are based on inferences about user needs and
preferences from data such as keywords and context
The system also uses AI to upgrade the quality of the e-commerce
platform by finding outstanding products with good quality in the market
but not yet available in Tiki so that it can provide more product diversity
for customers.
- According to further research:
Tiki uses multiple small teams which are around 5 to 10 members
including data scientists, AI engineers and product managers to focus and
solve very specific problems.
Collaborative Recommendation: Suggest users with content that is popular
in their population. For example, if you are in Viet Nam, Tiki would
recommend you products which Vietnamese often buy.
Content Recommendation: Suggest products which are similar with users
previous searches. For example, if you search about washing machines,
they can suggest different kinds of washing machine or other household
equipment.
5. VinAI:
a. About the company:
- VinAI is one of the top 25 AI research and innovation businesses in the world,
developing world-class AI products. The company's headquarters are in
Hanoi, Vietnam, with technical hubs in the United States and Australia.
b. The use of AI at VinAI:
- VinAI develops 3 main products, all of them are AI applications:
Smart Mobility: The program that helps car to promote automobile

III. Conclusion:
- Across the five surveyed companies, it can be concluded that AI is present in
the operation process of each companies, albeit to a different extent. While the
Hospitality sector (represented by InterContinential) may not apply a large
extent of AI in their development, the tech-based companies like Tiki, Viettel
and VinAI all focus on enhancing AI for the companies’ projects.
- This analysis gives us the overview of AI application in five different sectors
in Vietnam. As CBM students, it is valuable for us to get this information to
further enhance businesses using Artificial Intelligence in the future.
