a. Manlilikhang Bayan (“one who creates for the country”) or national
living treasure

NATION’S TRADITIONAL FOLKART
c. Formalized in 1992, through RA. NO 7355, THE MANLILIKHA
BAYAN ACT
 The award logo is a REPRESENTATION OF THE HUMAN FORM USED IN
TRADITIONAL CLOTH. Below the logo is the phrase “Manlilikha ng Bayan” written
in BAYBAYIN
 Baybayin – an ancient Filipino script used in the Philippines in the 16th Century
 The main objective of the award is to honor and support traditional artists and to see
if that their skills and crafts are preserved
 It is tied with a program that ensures the transfer of their skills to new generation and
the promotion of the craft both locally and internationally
Qualification
- Inhabitant of an Indigenous/traditional cultural community anywhere in the
Philippines that has preserved indigenous beliefs, customs, and etc.
- Must engaged in a folk art that has been in existence and documented for
at east 50 years
- Must consistently performed or produced over a significant period works of
superior and distinctive quality
- Must possess mastery of tools and materials needed by art

Duties and Responsibilities


- TO TRANSFER skills of their traditional folk arts
- TO COOPERATE with the implementing agency, as a provided for in
section 7
- TO DONATE a sample of their work to the national museum

 Federico Caballero (2000 Awardee) – a solid BUKIDNON EPIC CHANTER, he
strives to DISPENSE JUSTICE IN THE COMMUNITY.

UNDERSTANDING OF MANGYAN SOUL
 Masino Intaray (1998 AWARDEE) – a prolific and pre-eminent chanter and story
teller. Is recognized for his outstanding MASTERY OF VARIOUS TRADITIONAL
MUSIC INSTRUMENTS
 Samaon Sulaiman – he was awarded for his OUTSTANDING ARTISTRY AND
DEDICATION TO HIS CHOSEN INSTRUMENT
 Salinta Monon (1998 AWARDEE) – TAGABANWA – BAGOBO TRADITIONAL
WEAVER. She was awarded for FULLY DEMONSTRATING THE CREATIVE AND
EXPRESSIVE ASPECT OF BAGOBO ABACA
 Alonzo Saclag (2000 AWARDEE) – he is a KALINGA NASTER OF DANCE
 Darhata Sawabi (2005 AWARDEE) – a late master weaver that came from
Baranggay Guimba Lagasan.

 Eduardo Mutuc (2005 AWARDEE) – an artist who dedicated his life to CREATING
RELIGIOUS AND SECULAR ART
