Staadpro

The document provides a step-by-step guide for designing a portal frame in STAAD PRO. It describes how to generate and apply load combinations, perform analysis, define design parameters, run the design, and view results such as member forces, reactions, and utilization ratios. Key steps include assigning material properties, sections, and unbraced lengths to members, checking code compliance, and generating a design report.

3-design portal frame: from upper bar….utilities….command file….from left list

…double click on perform analysis….from right commands insert new row below “
perform analysis” then write list ….then double click on load list and write from 7
to 16 (this refer to load combinations that the design will be performed by
it)….then press on save as following snaps:

 Then start to assign Fy of each materials : from upper

bar…..select….attributes….property name…..tension only beams…..then
press on inverse to choose steel members as following snaps:

16 | P a g e
Eng.Heba Adel – Structural Engineer-Alexandria university

 Then select Fy =345000 kn/m2 ….assign to selected beams as following

snaps:

 Repeat the previous steps to assign tension members Fy as following

snaps:

Eng.Heba Adel – Structural Engineer-Alexandria university

 Then assign UNB&UNT : from upper bar ….select….attributes….property

name…..by property…..select all tapered sections….right click ….new
view…from upper bar….view….select view of elevation then select rafters
….choose from right bar UNB1.4 and choose assign to selected beams and
in the same way assign UNT1.4 as following snaps:

 From view of elevation….select columns to assign with UNB2.2&UNT2.2 as

following snaps:

21 | P a g e
Eng.Heba Adel – Structural Engineer-Alexandria university

 From right bar….commands….check code…add….takeoff…add then

close….then press on check code in right bar….from view ….display whole
structure…then assign to view…and do the same steps with steel takeoff as
following snaps:

22 | P a g e
Eng.Heba Adel – Structural Engineer-Alexandria university

 From upper bar…analysis and design….run analysis…save….done…then

from left bar …postprocessing….ok….beam results….utilization ratio..

23 | P a g e
Eng.Heba Adel – Structural Engineer-Alexandria university

 we will find that bracing members and tubes were not designed ….so from
left bar …analytical model….properties….

Eng.Heba Adel – Structural Engineer-Alexandria university

 After defining sections from data base for bracing members and strut….we
need to assign with new sections ….from upper bar
….select….attributes….property name….by property….select bracing
members(CIR 0.98)….then from right bar hoose RD25…..assign to selected
beams…assign as following snaps:
