Some of the social identity categories included are ethnicity, religion, age, gender, sexual orientation and cultural background. The personal identity categories include favorite activities, personal characteristics, values and goals. The exercise is meant to help the reader reflect on which aspects of their identity others can see first, which identities may unfairly label them, and which have the strongest influence on how they see themselves.
