The morality of the Heads and Shoulders’ sports advertisement

The image I have chosen is the head and shoulders ad. I am a big fan of Heads and

Shoulders as someone who uses their products as well as my family members. I have had

nothing but good experiences and results by using their shampoos and conditioners. They are

known for making products which gets rid of dandruff. I see that they used a product which

could be helpful to every human know to exist. The reason being that everyone throughout the

history of mankind has come across problems with dandruff or even periods of time where they

struggled with it. That is one of the reasons I believe that their company is extraordinarily

successful. Although there is a ludicrous amount of different shampoo companies and brands

throughout the planet and even in the United States alone, they managed to be on top. Their

marketing strategies, the need for a high-quality product of their caliber, and the groups they

decide to collaborate with expands their network across the globe. An example of that would be

the advertisement the created with two NFL stars, first one being the well-known Patrick

Mahomes who is the Quarterback for the Kansas City Chiefs; the other star being the Former

Pittsburg Steelers defensive back Troy Polamalu. These are some of the most famous individuals

and teams in the NFL world. These two players collaborating with the hair products company

labeled as “Heads and shoulders”, brought more exposure to the brand to an audience that was

most likely unaware of the product. Even if they knew, they are now more likely to buy more

and that results in higher revenue.

Athletes are very much trusted when they advertise Health products and brands. That is because

they take care of their health since they are overall healthy and physically above average.

Weather this is the case one hundred percent of the time or not true all the time, that’s the way

the majority of people thing when the see an ad with an athlete in it. The bigger the profile of the

athlete or the individual in general, the bigger and broader the audience. That brings a larger

responsibility on them to share honest opinions and higher-quality products. This makes the

chances of a very famous athlete or person advertising a bad product very low. And ordinary

people would take their word in a heartbeat. This is the case that played out in the heads and

shoulders advertisement. They collaborated with two very high-value individuals with good

quality hair, to share a hair product. To an audience that trusts them because of their

achievements, status, and great physical administration on how good people’s hair could

become. These are the values presented to an extremely broad audience. Everyone aspires to

have hair that of good-quality hair. That’s why Hair transplant surgeries are successful across the

globe. Hair is also an attractive physical trait. These statements are referrals to my claim that

everyone the ad comes across is part of the audience the company aims to gain as customers. If a

company or brand puts their honest effort and do their best to create a beneficial product that

serves what it advertises and does exactly what it claims, it is appropriate for them to shift their

advertising towards any group of people from different backgrounds. That’s the case with Heads

and Shoulders as well. I believe this ad was appropriate given the fact that they serve what they

offer. Their products also relate to any group of people it is presented to because it supplies a

service that everyone demands. Using athletes is absolutely an ethical and intelligent strategy. As

I’ve mentioned before, they are, for the most part, good models of what most people want to be

like, and they are individuals who take their physical appearances and public images very

seriously and that requires them to be as healthy as possible. They would also need to use the

best product out in the market in order to ensure that they keep their healthy body chronically.

That’s why it is justifiable as a brand and company to partner up with certain public figures as

well as consumers taking their word and trusting them with the product.

I deem it interesting that they used the phrases “offense for great hair” and “defense against

flakes”. The ad places the offense phrase under Patrick since he is an offensive player and places

the defense phrase also directly under Troy who is a former defensive player. That correlation

just seemed a little interesting and humorous and that pleased me a little. Small details like

slogans, lingos, or catchphrases can really come a long way in convincing someone to consume

your product.

I would say that this is an overall simple and valid advertisement post. There isn’t so much to

read that confuses anyone who reads it nor is the collaboration of the athletes with the sponsors

mislead or misinform anyone. I do believe that the catchphrases placed on the athletes in the post

do indicate what occurs in when the product is used. Meaning that the ad says what it is indicated

and shown in the ad. I am overall appreciative of the add because it is clear, very concise with

the catchphrases, I have a good experience with the product so that might be a bias, and

everything shown visually indicates the product advertised is a reliable and great product. I will

continue to use their product because I am a satisfied consumer and fan of their simple creativity.
