Unit 8 Statement of Aims
Unit 8 Statement of Aims
STATEMENT OF AIMS
Unit 8 is the summative unit in the first year of the two-year qualification. It will
provide students with a measure of self-directed learning through the
completion of a substantial creative media production and technology project.
The unit requires students to apply the skills, knowledge and understanding
developed in Units 1–7, to complete a creative media production project. It will
provide students with a measure of self-directed learning, and an opportunity to
begin to clarify their longer-term goals through their choice of an activity to explore in
greater depth
Name
Bradleigh Fielding
I now know how some projects become successful even If they do not make sense,
throughout all the 7 Units there is one video that caught my eye which is the slow motion.
Ive realised that some subjects look pretty interesting in slow motion. I have gain a few
skills from the 7 units. I have an idea of what I am going to base the fmp around.
The concept of the project is that the audience can be fascinated of the constant
slow motion flow of H2o. I am going to angle the camera like a pan shot almost, I
have only seen some of these on adverts but not a constant flow.
I have researched artists that have created projects and understand how the whole
scheme is. I will use secondary research and research slow motion videos on
youtube to learn which angle of the camera I need for slow motion video. I will then
find out how to do the looping perfectly.
I will start planning when this is going to take place, props, sounds, cameras,
location.
Section 3: Evaluation – How you plan to record your progress (minimum of 100
words)
This section provides an opportunity to explain how you will reflect on, and evaluate, you
work as both an on-going activity and at the conclusion of the project. You should describe
how you intend to record your decision making and how you will document changes to your
ideas as work progresses. The evaluation should be referenced to your stated aims and be
reflective and analytical rather than a description of actions completed. Remember, you are
consistently evaluating and reflecting on your work throughout the process, not just at the
end.
First ill be creating a story board for my project so I follow the plan if I bump into
any problems later down the line I will change the plan to what’s necessary.
I will record my project most likely inside but plans might change to that.
Throughout the project I will be constantly finding secondary research so I could
possibly add to my plan already.. for the evaluation I will be comparing my work to
other professionals that have made a similar comparison and explaining the
differences and similarities.
I will be using a camera and tripod to record in slow motion smoothly then I will
plan where of the locations I am going to film.
Equipment Required
e.g., cameras, computers, software etc. Be as specific as you can with regards to software
as you may need a variety of programs.
I will be using a video camera to record the constant flow of water that transforms
into a waterfall and I will be using a slow motion shot,
I will also be using premier pro and possibly Photoshop to create a thumbnail.
Im going to use a tripod as well so I can make the video efficient and smooth
Resources Required
e.g., props, locations, costumes, make-up, sounds (where applicable)
when the water is pouring I have deciding to use a loud waterfall audio or even the
ocean to transition into a waterfall.
Locations: Poole park and Bournemouth and Poole college.
Skills to develop/learn
Appropriate skills for chosen pathway (this will be helpful for staff to know to organise
particular workshops). Be as specific as you can with the skills you might need to develop.
I need to develop the skills for the right camera angle aswell as learning how to
concure the frame rate setting on the camera and choosing which is best for the
slow motion shot I have in place aswell as finding the perfect angle for the tripod
so I can have a close up shot.
I think for my project will just be myself I don’t need any actors as such because it
is a simple plan but will come out good and interesting.
If I can find out any way to have a softwhere that the audience can scroll through
the video back and forward by a bar would be pretty useful, I think a digital art
gallery would be amazing for this project.
1. Do something you enjoy – look back on projects this year and think about
what skills you’ve learnt and which you have really enjoyed. What job would
you like to do in the future? How can you apply it to your project? Pick an area
which you can connect with.
LOVE YOUR PROJECT
2. Do lots and lots of research – primary and secondary are both essential.
Use a wide range of methods and resources, such as questionnaires,
surveys, interviews (Primary), and researching the work of professional
practitioners and techniques (Secondary).
3. Manage your time – 9 weeks of practical work is not long. Just think how
fast this year has gone so far. Plan ahead and don’t fall behind. MAKE USE
OF INDEPENDENT STUDY TIME.
4. You must document everything what happens as you go along. Your entire
journey from start to finish should be fully recorded. Describe and analyse as
you go along. Every aspect of your project should be fully considered. Your
Planning and Schedule will be vital to the success of your FMP
6. Critically analyse and evaluate – this will refer to the research you undertake,
the pre-production, production and post-production. Don’t just describe but
analyse, interpret, research and evaluate.
