Create an outline
To facilitate writing your essay, you should create your essay outline. You know that you need to separate
your essay into introduction, body, and conclusion. For a five paragraph essay, have an introduction to your
main idea, at least three evidences/supporting details, and a conclusion. Leave spaces under each idea to
enable you to list smaller ideas that you can write under each paragraph. The ‘skeleton’ will enable you to write
a more organized essay.
Sample outline:
Introduction paragraph
• First sentence
• Context of the topic
• Thesis statement/Claim/Main idea
Body paragraph
• Give data
• Information on the subject
• Research on the topic
• Cite examples
Conclusion paragraph
After you’ve made your draft, do the revising and editing. Check the structure of your essay. Check that the
your discussions are good. Check your essay by rereading if the sentences are complete and if the
paragraphs flow into each other smoothly and are cohesive. Check the grammar, spelling, and punctuation
make necessary corrections. Delete any irrelevant sentences. Change some words to improve the vocabulary.
With all these corrections in place, you are now ready to write your final draft and submit it before the deadline.
C. Start writing your draft on this page and the next. If you find that you need more notes, go back to the
resources and make more.
