FINAL PAPER: CRITICAL ANALYSIS

As part of the course description, PPC as a subject assumes that social and cultural forces external to individuals shape behavior. In
the present global phenomena, media culture is the most influential and powerful force that creates and dictates standards in almost all
walks of life. At the duration of the course, the skills learned aim to identify, understand and explain the effects of popular media to
individuals. Likewise, students must be equipped with tools for critical evaluation of a variety of texts and media materials focusing on
the power of language and the impact of images to emphasize the importance of conveying messages responsibly.

For this individual output, you are expected to attain the following objectives:
· write a critical analysis of a chosen subject highlighting an aspect of Philippine popular culture
· critically evaluate social issues presented in the topic chosen
· realize the impact of popular culture to the new generation
· develop an appreciation for Filipino culture and foster a value orientation reflective of a genuine Filipino identity
The chosen topic must be critically analyzed and written in terms of: PERSPECTIVE, CONTEXT and CRITICAL MODALITY.

Parts of the critical paper:

I. TITLE PAGE
- indicate the title of the paper, name of student and section
II. INTRODUCTION
- write a present situationer
- it could be an anecdote or a reflection on what led you to your chosen topic
III. BRIEF BACKGROUND OF THE TOPIC
- identify the work being criticized
- present the topic’s CONTEXT
- determine the author / artist / content creator’s PERSPECTIVE in their material
IV. CRITICAL ANALYSIS
- indicate the CRITICAL MODALITY to be used
- frame your discussion based on the following guide questions:
● What Filipino cultural phenomenon is analyzed and highlighted?
● What social and/or cultural issues are highlighted in the chosen topic?
● How does this phenomenon impact popular culture in the country?
● How does it foster and encourage appreciation of Filipino culture?
V. CONCLUSION
- re-assert the criticism presented
- establish through a closing paragraph the importance of your critical paper
VI. REFERENCE LIST
- indicate at least 5 references using Chicago Manual of Style (CMoS)
Technical requirements:
1. whole paper must be between 1500 - 2000 words
2. font style is ARIAL, font size is 12, double spaced, 1 inch LR and TB, fully-paginated
3. must be submitted as PDF file until December 16, 2022, 11:59 PM (failure to submit on the due date will result to an INC
for this semester)
4. file must be submitted through Google Classroom

Your final paper will be graded based on the following: 200 points
100 for content and background information
100 for overall critical analysis
