ETHICS: ASSIGNMENT 1
SITUATION: You have a best friend and who is about to marry next week but you discover your
best friend's boyfriend/girlfriend kissing someone who is not your friend. What would you do?
I will make steps to prove that the scene I've discovered was true. I will take evidences that would
support my information to avoid any conflict. Ensuring first if it was his boyfriend who is kissing
someone. If I see it true, I will talk and confront my best friend's boyfriend and asking why did he
do that kind of thing. I would suggest, if you are not serious on the relationship with my best
friend's, you just need to cancel the wedding and avoid hurting each other. I won't tolerate things
that would ruin the life of my best friend's. Marriage is sacramental and a big commitment that you
as a partner had a huge responsibility to make the relationship more valuable which is essential in
your lives. I would tell my best friend what I've seen in simple way. Although, it's painful I would
tell her the truth because I don't want see my best friend's crying. It's better to tell the truth than to
hide it from my best friend's. I would advise my best friends to have a good talk with her boyfriend
and to work it out, so that both of them are clear about the decisions they are going to make.
Whatever their decision is, I will respect it. And, I will support my her no matter what happen and
what will make her happy.
1. What influences your morals?
As human being, what influences my morals are the factors that surrounds me such as my family,
relatives, social interaction, gender, age and culture where I was born and raised. For example,
culturally we follow rules of what is right and wrong. Just like a relationship, you're not allowed to
fornicate with someone else if you have a spouse. In socializing with the crowd, we get something
good and also something bad that has an effect on us as individuals. But, the good thing to do, is
that which is consistent with goodness and respect whatever the idea of others. Because it's hard to
criticize an idea if we don't really know what it wants to convey. And here we will know if our
action is right or wrong based on the decision we made. Finally, the family that I belong to and
situations that I experience that make me see the true value of life and how important they are to
me. Where they cultivate me by going good habits that help me to form a decision and accept what
will be its result based on the action I've made.
2. How do you make ethical decisions?
I will make first an observation and investigation if that particular issue if it's true or not. When I
know that the issue that I am investigating is real, I will take the right steps to resolve and provide
an immediate solution to the problem, so that it does not get worse and incite a disturbance in many
people. Ensuring steps would fit the decision that I will take and would give better outcomes. Like
the situation that my best friend's is facing. Knowing that it has a big impact to her, it's necessary
to do what is appropriate and right even knowing if he will be hurt badly. But, if this the only way
to correct her boyfriend's mistake I will do it. When making a decision we need to respect the
opinions and ideas of others, so that we can be sure that we are doing the right thing. Because fraud
and lies are rampant now. We need to be sensitive to what we hear and say before we let everyone
know it, we must first know if it is true or not. Analyzing and contextualizing situation are relevant
to avoid any complications. Think before you click.
3. Do you use your morals to decide behaviors/actions?
Yes, because it's relevant and essential to decide a particular behavior or actions even if it's right or
not. I think without using morals in any situation or making decisions or actions, I think it's not
good and the outcome might cause or induce a problem. In the situation given, I thought first
whether to tell the truth to my best friend's or not. But before telling her what I've discovered, l will
make sure that it was true and provide evidences to avoid problems. Telling the truth is very
important even if might danger our life. Using moral in deciding behaviors or action will help you
to stand up for what is right and knows how to accept consequences that might happen. It's essential
to check information we hear or see before spreading it, because not all we have seen in this world
are reliable and true. So, make sure to think critically.
