Control measures to be taken:
C1 Use Hot work permit before starting then activity
C2 Skilled workmen to be allowed to perform welding work.
C3 Toolbox to be conducted for workmen involved in the activity.
C4 Proper cables must be used for the return path of the welding m/c.
C5 Except the electrode holding jaw, the remaining part of the welding holder should be fully insulated.
C6 Welding shall not be performed in damp condition.
C7 Welding machine & the cables should not be kept in wet places.
C8 Welding m/c and cables should be checked before start of the job.
C9 Welding m/c body earthing must be given.
C10 Use appropriate leather gloves / shoes.
C11 All the combustible materials should be cleaned near by area.
C12 Welding machine should be switched off when the welding work is finished.
C13 All cable joints should be very rigidly made and insulated to avoid getting heated up or producing
sparks causing fires.
C14 Fire extinguishers should be provided near the work place.
C15 Welder should use scratchproof goggles always to avoid getting burns while chipping, cleaning etc.
C16 Welder coverall should be full sleeve cotton.
C17 At the end of job, before leaving the place of work, smoldering fires if any should be put out.
C18 Overheating of transformers shall not be allowed.
C19 Use proper eye protecting shield, welding, helmet etc.
C20 Provide proper ventilation to avoid inhalation of fumes.
C21 Avoid exposure of direct skin to the radiation.
C22 Do not use water to fight electrical fires
C23 Use Full body harness when working at height
Legal Requirements to be followed:
Section No: 10.4 of code of construction safety practice of DM. (ii) DM-TG-14,15,16,17,18,19,20
Training requirements of the personnel involved:
PTW Training, Fire watcher training
Related emergency procedures, if any:
Fire drill, Emergency evacuations
Verification of the implementation of control measures:
PTW form, Training records, TBT records.
