B. DEVELOPMENT
BOHR MODEL- PAPER PLATE ATOM
The teacher will ask the students to create an atom model using a
Bohr template. Students will have to follow the directions posted on
the PowerPoint. They will use small circles that represent the
subatomic particles and will locate the subatomic particles in the
model.
Materials:
3 different colored paper
Tape
Scissors
Paper plate
Pentel pen
Legend:
p+ = proton ( red)
e- = electron ( blue )
n0 = neutron ( green )
Procedures:
1. Cut out circles using the colored papers. Please be careful when
using scissors.
2. Write the following symbols depending on the color of the paper
p+ ( red) e- ( blue ) n0 ( green )
3.Draw circles on the paper plate as shown in the picture.
4.Using the red, blue, and green circles locate the subatomic particles
on the paper plate.
After the activity the teacher will discuss the subatomic particles and
how to determine the number of protons, electrons, and neutrons.
After the discussion the teacher will ask the students these following
questions.
1.What makes up an atom?
2. How would you determine the number of protons, neutrons, and
electrons of a particular atom?
ELEMENT A Z p+ e- nO
2 2 2
6 6 6
8 8 8
D. ASSIMILATION
Choose the letter of the correct answer.
1.An electron is in a region outside the nucleus. How will you describe
an electron?
a. has a positive charge
b. is larger than a proton and has no charge
c. is smaller than a proton and has no charge
d. has less mass than a proton and has a negative charge
