Research Design

This study will examine the savings behavior of 121 ABM students at Taysan Senior High School for the 2022-2023 school year using a descriptive research method. Data will be collected through a questionnaire containing questions on demographics, attitudes, financial self-efficacy, and social influences related to savings. The responses will be analyzed using statistical methods like frequency, ranking, weighted mean, and correlation to understand patterns in savings behavior and its relationship to student characteristics. Results will help describe the current state of savings among ABM students.

Research Design

In order to meet the objectives of this research, the most appropriate research strategy using
qualitative and quantitative approach. This study utilizes the descriptive-survey research method since
the main purpose of the study is to determine the savings behavior of ABM students at Taysan Senior
High School S.Y 2022- 2023. According to Voxco (2021) descriptive research design is a type of research
design that aims to obtain information to systematically describe a phenomenon, situation, or
population. More specifically, it helps answer the what, when, where, and how questions regarding the
research problem, rather than the why. Both qualitative and quantitative approaches will be utilized in
analyzing data which will be gathered. The quantitative approach will be used in the researcher-made
questionnaire as a data gathering instrument while the qualitative approach will be engaged in
interpreting the responses of the students related to their savings behavior. Additionally, correlational
analysis will be utilized to ascertain the relationship between respondents' profiles and their savings
behavior.

Subjects of the Study


This study involves 121 ABM students from Taysan Senior High School during the school year 2022-
2023. In Grade 12 students there are 66 and 55 from Grade 11 students from ABM strand. The
researcher believes that the 121 total populations could successfully represent the true feelings and
sentiment of the respondents. The distribution of respondents will be proportionally allocated to ensure
proper representation. Since ABM students are in different grade, the respondents will be selected
through random sampling based on the number of sample size required in each grade.

Data Gathering Instrument


The major instrument to be used by the researcher in gathering data for this study is the
standardized questionnaire to find answers to the problems posited. It is composed of four parts:
Part 1. Profile of the Respondents. It will provide data to determine the personal characteristics
of the respondents in terms of sex, socio economics status and nature of parent’s occupation.
Part 2. Assessment as to the Describing the Effect of Savings Behavior in terms of Attitude in
ABM students in Taysan Senior High School. This will generate data on the effect of savings behavior in
terms of the attitude of ABM students in Taysan Senior High School.
Part3. Assessment as to Describing the Effect of Savings Behavior in terms of Financial Self-
efficacy. This will provide data on the effect of savings behavior in terms of financial self-efficacy.
Part4. Assessment as to Describing the Effect of Savings Behavior in terms of Social Influence.
This will generate data on the effect of savings behavior in terms of social influence.

Construction of the Questionnaire


The questionnaire will be prepared through the guidance and supervision of the research
teacher. Before constructing the questionnaire, the researchers will search and will read several
references and unpublished materials. Then after gathering all the information, the researcher will
analyze the standardized questionnaires which are based on the ready- made curriculum guides on
research subjects. It will be presented to the thesis adviser.
Validation of the Survey Questionnaire
The survey questionnaire will be developed by the researcher after a thorough reading of
related literature and data- gathering instrument of similar studies on the major and specific problem of
the study. Numerous revisions will be done by the researcher in order to come up with a clear, apparent
and concise research instrument through the guidance of the research teacher.
Validation of the content of the questionnaire will be done before the actual use. The researcher
will request and consult the research teacher. The recommendations and suggestions will be noted and
considered into the instrument. Then the set of students who are included in the study will be requested
to answer the instrument.

Administration of the Questionnaire


Upon the approval of the principal to conduct the study in the school, the researcher will
administer the validated questionnaire to the student respondent. To do this, the researcher will seek
the assistance of the research teacher of the school.

Scoring of the Responses


The scoring which will be used in measuring the responses from the final instrument will be
interpreted using the following quantification based on weighted mean. The four-Point Likert Scale
together with the interpretation for computed means will be adopted using the legend below.
The following are the weighted rating scale and verbal interpretation will be used in the
researcher assessment.

Data Gathering Procedure


In depth- research will be done first by the researcher online from books, journals, and
periodicals, published and unpublished materials that are significant to the topic that will support the
study.
The researchers had allotted vigorous time, effort and cooperation in developing their
questionnaire so as to serve its intended respondents. The survey was created using suitable questions
modified from related research and individual questions formed by the researchers. In the
questionnaire, Likert scale was used to determine if the respondent agreed or disagreed in a statement.
Upon the retrieval of the instrument and gathering of the necessary data, evaluation and
tallying will be done by the researcher before it will be submitted for statistical treatment. After that,
discussion, analysis and interpretation of data will be done. The data will be discussed in tabular and
textual presentation.
Statistical Treatment of Data
The data gathered through the use of questionnaire will be tallied, analyze and interpreted by
the researcher using the following statistical tools.
Frequency. Data will be presented in frequency form to show the actual distribution of the
variables of the respondents in terms of sex, socio economics status and nature of parent’s occupation.
Ranking. This will be used to determine the rank of the item based on the frequency
distribution.
Weighted Mean. This will be used to get the average frequency of the responses in each
weighted items. Weighted mean is used to determine the assessment of the selected respondents as to
the effect of saving behavior in terms of attitude, financial self-efficacy, and social influence.
Pearson Correlation Coefficient (r). It is the test statistics that describe the strength and
direction of the linear relationship between two quantitative variables. In this study, it will be used to
determine the relationship between the demographic profile and the effects of saving behavior in terms
of attitude, financial self-efficacy, and socio economic status of the student-respondents.
